Check out my T-Rex build log, it has GTX 980s fitted with waterblocks but since then I have swapped them for the TitanXs which look almost identical. The only difference is the Titans use 8 + 6 pins connectors instead of 6 + 6 pin ones.

I bought mine because of a higher base clock (no messing with the bios) and the SC 980s came with Samsung memory instead of Hynix, unfortunately this was not repeated for the TitanX.

It does not mater what the margin is, if the 390X only has 8gb it is almost obsolete before it is launched as a highend card.

I have already used more than 8gb on several occassions hence my previous comment.

For two cards 6gb/8gb is fine but for 3 or 4 cards for gaming 12gb is the way to go.

If i can use more than 8gb now, in 6 or 12 months time games will be even more demanding.

As a rule I usually tend to agree with you,

but saying that 8Gb cards will be obsolete b4 launching is a little extreme.

With Windows 10 and DX 12 about to launch, the way we think/presume things will work are about to be turned upside down IMHO.

There are not many at the moment, GTA V is an obvious one though which uses just over 8gb at 2160p.

The point I am trying to make is it is possible to breach 8gb now in extreme circumstances and the 390X is not even on the market, this will only get worse during the life of the card.

This does not mean that you can not game on cards with less amounts of memory, more so with one or two GPUs where you would have to turn the settings down anyway (not even 2 TitanXs can run GTA V maxed @2160p). What it does mean is people need to be aware of what is on the horizon now.

Something for the future BF4 maxed @8k uses 9gb of VRAM. :eek:

I have still got a couple of HD 5970s I got when they first launched.

The HD 5970 was considered to have a decent amount of VRAM, unfortunately 1gb does not go far these days. :eek:

It's possible to bring a lot of AAA games to their knees if you set out to try. Anyone worth their salt knows anti aliasing is a killer, people should be more interested in what LOD texture fidelity is possible with reasonable settings.

Nothing to argue about, it does not matter how you get over 8gb the fact is you can do it now @2160p.

Here is another example of 8gb breached

Watchdogs @2160p

This was after just a few minutes near the beginning of the game where I am trying to get past a cop.

I am not saying max settings are needed for games, what I am saying is it is possible to use more than 8gb now.

@crinkleshoes try the 3 way SLI bridge that came with the mobo, if it works it looks a bit better than the flexible 2 way one.
