So last time I was eager to go, but well didnt keep it up after getting a full time job over summer last year, I just brushed it off and was lazy. Also it was only a small uni gym, often cramped and full of school kids.

Anyway, excuses excuses, I'm a student living the "student life". I got lazy.

My flat mate goes to the new gym that got built on a regular basis (every day with an off day etc) and he has got me to join up, and will make sure I go everyday with him :D Induction is on friday and I'll get a plan built up for my by the trainers there. Its so nice when you go in :)

Feeling a lot more positive about this than last time (and well, I need to even more so now, im a big lad, biggest I have ever been currently and I hate it.) But Ive also started to want to be quite muscly, riding a bike recently has made my leg (quads) quite pronounced, and also my shoulders which is making me feel a bit happier about myself. The small changes seemed to make quite a difference on one's self esteem :)

Gotto say a thanks to the other threads on here about people starting the gym due to their size etc, and the links to bb website. The awesome thread on there (Fat to fit) really got me looking at total disgust in what I am like at the moment. Really gave me that extra push out of laziness I have slipped back into. Thankyou.

Cant wait for this. All my fat is soft and flabby, so I know it'll come off with a solid summer of gym going :) Can't wait for that feeling of being happy.

Slate me for giving up last time, but hey. I'm desperate now. Not sure why I posted all this babble, I need to come out and say stuff I'm feeling more often, instead of keeping it all built up. So you lot get the drivvle!

Good for you for going to the gym again, Give it 2 months and you'll be itching to go to the gym even on your rest days. Stick at it fella its all good stuff.

ive taken some pics but, wont be posting them yet. Its far to embarrasing, heck just taking the pictures was an ordeal in itself. Cant wait to look back on them in a month or so and compare! Will take measures soon too. Everything is gonna be logged (not too sure on a diet aspect but ill talk to the gym trainer about this, however ive started eating a lot more healthy balanced etc. Tuna salads, chicken and rice/pasta for tea, fruit, only drinking water (sometimes squash) (remembering to drink enough sometimes slips haha)

I know it sounds stupid, but ive been doing simple exercises before bed every night. I can now do around 70 situps (with rest times, im not that good yet!) and a good set of squats :), pushups etc lol

Main idea of this thread is to log stuff down (well when i feel more comfortable) and track any progress :) And also seek guidance on routines etc.

well i went :D

Really nice place, everything has tv's built into them lol. And i can use the swimming pool (well, when ive lost weight :/)

Anyway, wanted to ask what sort of routine i should get into? Having a talk with the personal trainers but they said for a week just go and have a "play" on things to get used to it. However my mate (introduced me to this gym) who goes on a 4 day routine wants me to go with him, and do everything he does. For example I stuck with him today and it was legs day, so squats, legpress, calf raises and step ups. First time doing legs and my quads are roaring! (i was amazed i could even do a squat with apparent ok ish form let alone with the big bar and like 10kg of weight haha.) everything was the usual 12 x 3 sets.

I dont believe doing that is right, hes eating 4k calories a day and pushes a lot of weight about which im pretty sure will just build me up and up. (and hes been doing it for like a year and just looks podgier.)

So, should i just go 100% cardio for a while (while being a long ish time, im wanting to loose 4/5 stone.) Or should I incorp some weight / resistance machine work? Whats more benificial to shifting this weight as quickly as possible? Obviously i'd like to be muscly, but that can come after I've got a frame to work with?

Also diet wise ive been trying to cut out everything crap (student, hey), but i understand need to keep metabiolism high, but im just not sure. my day is now usually:

got some porridge stuff for breakfast
dinner - tin of tuna and salad / maybe on a wrap / chicken salad
tea - chicken / mince with rice/noodles/pasta and sauce if noodles ill have stirfry type veg too. Had a baked potato with tune salad other night. Ommlette.

usually get a bag of oranges or two for the week,

So yeah, im kind of lost diet wise. I'd just love to have a shopping list for the week lay out for me, what meals etc and i could happily go with it. But that aint gonna happen so where can I look for guides on a decent dietry plan for my kinda goal?

I'm also only drinking water now, trying to drink a lot more as i always forget. What should I be aiming for intake wise?

Hopefully you lot can help point me in the right direction. :)

I was in a similar position to you dude, and I posted a similar thread on here about a month back.

Here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17979479

I now eat much more healthy; cutting out the empty calories (crisps, biscuits etc), especially fizzy drinks. I haven't drank a sip of fizzy pop since about 1.5 months ago (Except beer, but come on, give me some slack :D).

I visit the Gym nearly every other day now, and it becomes a brilliant habbit; especially when you have someone to go with. Drink plenty of water, I think thats what keeps me from gorging on crappy foods.

Put it this way, I was 17st when I started (Beginning of my thread date), and today (weighed myself in the morning, after cracking one out [lol]) and I'm now shy of 16st (15st12lbs). I think this is an amazing achievement for myself, and it only motivates you more. As I've been told, measure yourself, or even take progress photos, to show yourself and motivate yourself. Realistically, I've gone down 2" off my waist, now I fit into 36" jeans (I can't physically lose anymore, due to my bone structure).

Well, I lost myself there, but you get the jist. Just keep yourself motivated!

wow thats a pretty good loss. Congrats to you ! very motivating aswell (i had read the beginnings of it before.)

if you dont mind the effort can i ask what your general day to day diet is? Also what stuff do you do at the gym?

hope i can shift 2 inches in a month haha

Well dude. My diet is basically the same as before, but with less crap. Although I must admit, I do always have breakfast now, wheras before, I'd eat crap or nowt at all.

For breaky I normally have a Bowl of Bran Flakes/Shreddies (Sugar Free ones). Fibre intake is vital IMHO, as it cleans you right out. In between meals, I normally have some fruit, or a yogurt etc.

For lunch, I could have a standard, low calorie sandwich, or whatever is in my college's cantine (various meals). For tea, I have whatever my family is having, or a pasta alternative.

Big tip though, is to drink loads of water.. especially when hungry.. just makes you feel much better.

At the gym I normally do craploads of CrossTrainer, about 30 mins on a moderate resistance/gradient, and then a 5 min warmdown, and then 15/20mins on treadmill, not that fast, about power walking pace with normal gradient. I ride the bikes until I feel the burn and then warmdown. I also ride to and from college; about 10 miles, 5 each way, which is moderately hilly.

It's about pacing yourself, if you push yourself too much, you will get a reluctancy to not go the nice day, which is vital not to get into.. as you want to get into a habit of going regularly. I must admit, I do get days where I feel like poo, so I give it a miss.

My fitness has improved majorly aswell, so I can ride into college faster, which means more of a layin (which us students love BTW). So yeh, I hope I gave you enough information. If you want anymore info, just ask :).

Thankyou so much mate, i was feeling a bit iffy at first as I didnt really know what I was doing. Reading that everything doesnt seem so bad :D (i mainly thought it had to be mega strict and I think thats what pushed me away from properly researching that route)

But thanks :) Have been trying to drink more water this week (found myself needing to pee quite a bit today, haha.) which I spose is good :D

Time to leave the lazy student mega sleepins and start getting up for breakfast and a balanced day :)

Right then, ~18 stone to date. Lets see where I get in the not too distant future :)

watched the F1 today while at the gym :D did 40mins on the treadmill on a slight incline at a fast walk (never been on one, crazy thing) and 20 mins on the cross trainer :)

legs are still quite rigid after that day with my mate which is fun :P Can feel the difference though, :)

Weighed in today, lost a bit of weight but im smack on 18 now (was nearing 18 and a half before i started). Only way is down :D
