The King is Dead, Long Live the ...

Next up, GPU waterblock install, EK Quantum Vector3 GPU, specifcally for the Asus TUF 5080:

Lots in this box, block itself, with backplate on and box of bits including heat pads, tools and screws/bolts/nuts and paste

Then it's just a case of systematically removing the small screws to release the air cooler and backplate. The heat fins are huge.
IMG_6153.jpeg

Not a fan of doing this, but managed to "ease" it off.

And then the backplate itself, the card is actually pretty tiny!
IMG_6155.jpeg

Clean enough, the original TIM had set like cement.

The waterblock needs the backplate removed and some transportation spaces taken off (orange things just at the top).

Then it's time to put the thermal pads on, thankfully they're mostly precut to size so not that fiddly.
IMG_6159.jpeg

Then just a case of dropping the card on top making sure it all aligns with the screw holes, couple of screws to hold it in place and then drop the backplate, with it's original screws and backplate and screw it all together.

Done!

For the cost of ek blocks
Wish they would actually give you
A metal Allen key
Had oneof those plastic ones shear off
At the end in the fitting
Nothing short of a drill was getting it out
Of there

Nah, you buy your own decent Allen keys
so that you can recycle the included ones before use!
Then you buy hex Allen bits to go in a drill
because you can't be bothered to turn them
when your wife buys furniture
...or is that just me?! :D

It might be that they've used an usual size
and are too cheap to provide it.
I think some of their fittings use
a 9mm Allen that isn't in any sets.
You can (and I did) order one separately though.

I didn't need to use any of the EK plastic tools - looks like they're just have a standard bag of bits for CPU block and the same for GPU blocks. The GPU blocks barely used any of the screws etc in the bag and I think I only used the 1 metal allan key out of it.

Pumps have annoying whine.

I'm assuming you've turned them down from max already and they're still whiney? I found that with a double-pump setup, it was quieter if I set them to slightly different speeds. Could be inaccuracy of reporting the speed but it could just be constructive interference. Worth a try setting them to slightly different speeds and checking the noise level - also the flow rate so you know you've not just nerfed it completely.

Yeah I've tried unplugging each so both pumps whine independently. Starts as soon as they spin up.

I'm going to try remounting them as I'm not 100% I've mounted them correctly, might be too far into the hole so to speak.

Pretty sure at one point
They actually did give you metal ones
I found half a dozen in an ek box later
While looking for something totally unrelated

Probably my 90 degree screwdrivers
Though still not found those
Its like steptoe and sons yard in here :(
Got just about everything
But no idea where the #### it is
And my health just isn't up to totally gutting
The place out
