The King's Speech

Astounding film, so very happy I saw it. I can't even begin to decide on which of the main three's performances I liked most (Firth, Rush, Carter). Go see it, you will not be disappointed!

Took my mum with me to see it (how cool am I?) using the free cinema vouchers in the Times today. Best film I've seen at the cinema in a couple of years, we both absolutely loved it. Oscar nominations beckon for Colin Firth surely?

Saw this last night, at gf's request, I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but she went to Tron Legacy for me (which we both regretted). I thought it would be stuffy, monarchy-focused, period-drama, snooze-fest, brought into 20thC.

Instead it was a brilliantly-paced, well-written, personality-focused thingy! Very enjoyable, and I'd recommend it to any fence-sitters out there. Deserves a few nominations at minimum. Firth and Rush look like age old friends playing the part. They were both very, very good. Didn't see 2 hours go by at all.

Guy Pierce deserves honourable mention, as does Timothy Spall for a pretty good Churchill. Oh, and HBC - as always.

Glad you're all enjoying it! I feel like I should be paid for the PR I'm doing on this film :p

It's just quite a few people wouldn't go watch it because it sounds 'boring', when in actual fact it's anything but.

Saw it today!!!

Best film Ive seen in a very very long time - very rare for me to come out of a film and not hours later pick it to bits - I just couldnt with this as the acting was too distracting. I watch a lot of films so combined with me getting older Im usually quite ambivalent about what I do see, I dont really love any genre, nor luckily for me hate any (cant do Horror, am a scaredy-cat :p)...

As good as Firths performance is (Im not a betting man, but even Im tempted to put some money on him for an Oscar), I was far more impressed how well Rush supports him, the dry wit was layered on thick - even HBC wasnt as throwaway as normal...

I can see this causing some well-deserved upsets at the Oscars. Its just nice to go to the cinema and not have my intelligence insulted by treating me as the lowest common denominator. Its one of those films I could watch again just to pick up additional nuances. It was a short 2 hours :D and Ill be watching it again, very soon, no doubt...

127 hours is not in the same league...

ps3ud0

Been looking forward to this as soon as I saw it browsing through IMDB but I just kind find anyone cultured enough to actually want to come to see this. Maybe I'll say it has boobies and violence in it.

Firth is 1/9 to win, would be a completely pointless bet.

Rush isn't favorite to win bets supporting actor :( Bale is for his performance in the Fighter.

Saw this last night, brilliant film and brilliant performances from everyone involved not just the leading three everyone even the kids were outstanding. Couldn't believe that we had been in there two hours when it finished the film flew by.

Saw this yesterday, really good film, although not too sure it regarded the hype surrounding it. It was undeniably great, but not groundbreaking or hugely rewatchable. It didn't 'blow me away', but by far away one of the best films I have seen recently.

And rightly so, his role in the Fighter was amazing. I think I prefered the Fighter.

If it is as good as everyone is making out, then the trailers are horrendous, they really didn't make me want to watch this one at all.

[edit]Ok, just watched the theatrical trailer in the OP, that is much better, the TV trailers suck like a dyson in a black hole.[/edit]

I watched it the other night. I have to say I was really really impressed with it. I wasn't really expecting much to be honest. But it was really touching and quite a moving film.

Watched this last night, much over-hyped but still a good watch, I must be the only one who really didn't rate Firth in it at all, he just did the same deal scene after scene, same with Geoffrey Rush, I thought Guy Pearce was outstanding in it though.
