Did anyone else watch this the other night? For some reason i had the impression it was a bit of a classic/epic so my housemates and i settled down to watch it.

What a load of drivel! I was seriously dissapointed! I dont know if ch4 (i think that's what it was on) had cut a lot of it but half the time the shots didnt even line up together (continuity-wise) and in general i had no idea what was going on, nor did i care!

For me, it definately rates up there with Platoon as a film that i had the impression of greatness, but was horribly lacking. :(

Had anyone seen it, but watched it the other night? Was it cut by ch4? Some of it was terrible and didnt make any sense, especially the canoe chase and when the French guy offered the English to surrender and go back to England. It stopped before he made his decision, lol.

How dare you! Platoon's ****ing awesome! :D

I knew someone would have to take the bait. ;)

Watching some army men cry in a jungle where it's so dark you can hardly see anything does not make a good movie. No thank you. The only upside is that John C. McGinley is in it.

Now.. LOTM; did anyone watch it? :p

Rubbish. You must have confused Platoon with Apoc. Now :)

I didn't like LOTM either but I've a mate who thinks its fantastic. He thinks I just don't 'get it' and the first comment on it on imdb was 'anyone who didn't like this film doesn't understand art'. Sounds as pretentious as a Tool fan.

Just a bit of trivia.

In the original film they couldn't get any Mohicans to play the part so they got another tribe who had the 'punk' hairstyle and everybody wrongly called it a Mohican in the late 70's.
When the remake was made they got the Mohicans with long straight hair which was their proper hairstyle.

Last Of The Mohicans is ace, with one of the best soundtracks ever.

Not quite sure what's so confusing about it? It's a pretty simple premise.

.... but... that hairstyle was always called Iroquois or Mohawk (as in Mohawk River, when Iroquois lived). I never ever heard anyone refer to it as Mohican. Was it a local thing?

The mohican haircut was originally adopted by anti-capitalist punks in America as a show of solidarity for the native Americans who were all but wiped out by the settlers from the new world. Unfortunately, at some stage Blunk 182 and the rest of the mall-punks started using it and it kind of lost its meaning. FACT.

You've never heard people call a strip of longer hair down the middle of the head a mohican?

Nopes. Everyone I ever met always refered to it as Iroquois or Mohawk. I heard it a lot, cause I had one back in 89 (although mine looked more like spiked up mullet). I was in a band, we played fast and brutal hard core crossover while heroically attempting to maintain rhytm and punctuality, which, it has to be said, most of the time was closer to sun dial clock than machine gun fire of hard core bands at the time. In any case, Mohawk and black protective footware with yellow shoe laces was a must. Back from digresion - 17 years on, never heard of that hairstyle being called a mohican. Word of a scout. ;)

I can only presume the movie was cut to ribbons by Channel 4.

I would certainly put it in the 'classic/epic' territory.

Only seen it a couple of times, but I think it's an amazing movie. Something for everybody. Lots of well staged battles & gore for the boys, and a nice bit of romance for the girls. Awesome scenery & a very moving soundtrack.

Plus mugwa the Indian scout was a great character. Oh yeah and in the versions I saw, I'm positive you got to see the English decision to surrender when offered by the French.

Each to there own i s'pose but i think the film is a classic.
A modern day epic if you ask me.
Without doubt the best love scene in Any film. The bit where Mugwhy (sp?) has the young girl. The chase up the mountain the fight scene then the way she chooses to jump off and die with her lover rather than go off with Mugwhy. True love. What a woman.

The French show of respect and way the whole battle between English and French with the mix of natives is superb. The way they have portrayed the upper class snobbery. The cannons, smoke scenery.

I love this film.
But like i said each to there own a.

IIRC the English guy took a step forward and then it cut wihtout saying anything  It looked really odd.

That was another odd thing. They showed the girls' father get his heart cut out (well, they showed the Indian hold it up) -- but besides that there was no gore at all. Just people hitting other people with swords and then falling over :\

I guess if i ever happen across the DVD it may be worth giving it another go.
