Im a big Final Fantasy fan and this being made by square enix, this game should be a winner. So anyone played it, the combat seems quite complicated.

Search the forums if you want more info, as I've posted views on it several times before.

In short, if you like FF (I'm a fan as well) you will like it. However, it might take a few hours for it to "click" like it did with me. 50+ hours in now, and still enjoying.

Combat is fairly straight forward - the demo just makes it seem more complex than it really is.

I like it. It seems to follow the FF format from what little I have played so far, but seems to lack the explorability of FF. But if people are 50 hours in then there must be a lot to it. As one would expect from Square :)

To sum this game up, it runs a hell of a lot better than the Xbox 360 version, and with your spec in your sig, you can easily run it all on high settings no problems. Though there still may be a little issues but that is down to the Unreal Engine 3 itself.

And yes if you enjoy Final Fantasy games or any other JRPG's, then this game will be suitable. Whilst it is turned based, it has more strategy involved with it i.e. like Formations, Flanking etc, and the battles can last a very long time.

Great game, not quite as good as say Lost Odyssey which sadly isn't on the PC *:(*, but it's still a great game.

Takes a little while to get going, but once it does it's really good. :)

I got turned off by the demo, but thankfully the demo is a really bad representation of the game.

You really aren't that far in then. There's more content off the main story path than any FF game. It's bonkers. Then you go back and talk to people in places you've been to before, and something else opens up.

I thought Lost Odyssey was shockingly average, but yes, The Last Remnant demo is not a good representation of the full game. I've said it before - Square just don't know how to release a decent demo.

Lost Odyssey is average in terms of its gameplay as it is pretty old school, but the story was the best thing about it.

As for The Last Remnant, look around and you will find the PC version for an amazing £15.99 from a well known games supplier. Not even sure its its on special offer or if its a typo, but snap it up quickly if you are interested.

EDIT- Yep it is a special offer, Easter special.

dull combat is absolute BS, the combat system is great and really complex later in the game.

Poor graphics? Some area's are so-so but some of the graphics are really good.

In no way is this game a 52%.

pc zone gave it 52%
+Japanese Voice Acting
+Better then the console
-Dull combat
-Poor graphics
-Unskippable cut scenes

LOL clearly pc zone speak bs.

Dull combat - It's more involved then final fantasy games and more enjoyable.

Poor graphics - Erm what? It looks amazing

Unskippable cut scenes - This makes me wonder if they have even played it, they are skippable by pressing pause followed by the onscreen prompt.

The last time I read PC Zone was when a mate brought back his airport purchased copy from holiday. If it's gone the same way as PC Gamer, it wouldn't suprise me.

Fair enough, the reviewer is entitled not to like the game (even though I think he's wrong :P ), but poor graphics? They range from very good to stunning (imo). Maybe a lack of magazine sales doesn't let them upgrade their PCs very often...

And as ttreaders said, the cutscenes can be skipped, but assuming you don't want to miss the story, then you only really see most cutscenes once anyway.

I find the game extremely boring at the moment, and i'm probably about 40% into it. (incl all side quests)
The vast majority of playing time is spent on combat, so ultimately depends on how you feel about that.
Almost every area is a case of fighting lots of small mobs - very repetitive, no tactics needed. The boss fights are nothing like Final Fantasy boss fights, but they're still good since it ends the monotony of fighting through non-boss mobs.
I've read that the combat becomes much larger scale in the second half of the game, but i can only imagine that becoming tedious also once you're 60-70% in.

Im finding that some story line boss fights are retardedly hard (eg. wipes 3/4 unions in 1 attack) and all comes down to luck of getting summons to take the extra damage in the first round. So expect hours of reloading saves.

Nearly finished the game and its been good.

Funny with that PC Zone review. Every other review I read for the PC version of this game beats the Xbox 360 version, which is not so surprising given that it fixes many of the problems from the console version.

As for the combat being dull? Well whilst you don't get to specificly select which skills and magic to use in battle which is a huge disappointment, the mechanics like the Union Formations and general strategy of it makes it more interesting, particularly in the larger scale fights. I wouldn't say it is more involved than Final Fantasy games, as many of them are different (FFXII being the most different) and its subjective anyways.

As for poor graphics? Its the Unreal Engine 3! What do you expect? It can range to very nice to very bad, especially the texture loading which is an evident weakness in pretty much all games using this engine. Artstyle also plays a role in this. And you have to remember, this is Square-Enix's first use of this engine instead of their own as they usually do.

Honestly though, it just sounds like the reviewer clearly could not be bothered at all. Everytime I read that magazine, they are so biased with mostly PC specific games (As if the magazine title and their history of reviews wasn't obvious enough!) that it just makes the review of this game moot.
