The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

Update:

I'm still having a blast with the shrines, and I'm finding more high altitude places in the sky like with the tutorial island. There is an extra layer on the up where if you press UP on the d-pad, it shows the sky islands. This is a superb addition to TOTK over BOTW. The caves are fun too which I think is also new.

I've not found any main bosses yet or how to start the quest chains for them, but I have found several open world bosses that look like rock golems and giants. They're great fun and I find that I can sometimes get underneath the boss and use the "ascend" rune to bore my way through the body of the boss so that I'm now on top of it and attack its weak spot.

Not sure if there are any big fairies in TOTK for the armour upgrades but I did see a small fairy on one of the sky islands which quickly disappeared because I forgot to use the crouch command. The only armour I have is the full Hylian set and 1 of the climbing set, so I feel I'm quite far behind in that respect. I have 12 hearts and +20% stamina.

I'm now on the quest which is to do with disturbances, marked as 4 dots on the land map, probably the main story of the game. For no particular reason, I started with the top-left dot. This signposted me to Rito Village which is the familiar place from BOTW but now covered with snow. The 'disturbance' (the snow) is said to be coming from high up above and I have to investigate it. I now have a World of Warcraft-style pet for warlocks in the form of a child/teen Rito called Tulin. It's pretty kick-ass as he shoots at what I'm attack or he'll distract 1 monster while I'm attacking another. As a wind-element ally, he also assists with my paragliding. I'm flying and bouncing off these ship's sails (lots of ships) and trying to figure out an upwards route to the next checkpoint. The difficulty level is certainly ramping up and it feels equally as difficult as BOTW or even harder but I'm liking the new challenges.

You know this is game is many years old? :p

It's no difference from me posting in the BOTW thread, a game which is even older. Both BOTW and TOTK have been ported to the Switch 2 and I'm quite enjoying playing both of these for the very first time.

Live and let live.
I'm half playing with you. It's good to see you get to play these for the very first time. It's just the way you write your post is as though you're telling us about the game rather than just where you are up to. None the less I'm glad you're getting joy from them. Easily my favourite games.

As someone who hasn't played the game much, I enjoy those types of posts. Seems to me to be exactly what this thread is for.....

Another funny post for Mr Potato (unwashed ofc!)

I'm now picking up melee and bows with around 35 rating and even a shield with 50 rating, so I'm seemingly venturing into difficult areas of the game, yet my armour is still rock bottom. That's the bit where I'm lacking, badly. I've now found 3 or 4 great fairy fountain spots as the little fairies fly around them like in BOTW, but I've not managed to activate any of them yet. They're all in the sky layer of the map. Full armour sets are now Hylian and Snowquill, but again, rock bottom level.

On the sky layer, I'm loving those big circle things that remind me of the Death Star in Star Wars. They normally have a puzzle relating to a shrine. One of them also let you rotate it which was key to one of the puzzles.

Also, those sky island vending machines where you put in a zonai token and it spits out a ball with a gadget inside it. You can stock them in your inventory until you need it. 1 token in = 1 ball out. It only took me until now to realise that if you hold and insert 5 tokens, the machine issues you with 12 balls, so more than twice of what you're inputting.

Wait until you figure out what happens when you put 5 of the big zonai pieces in :p

Edit - oh and the great fairies are at ground level, not sky level but you'll need a more musical approach to awaken them in this game.

I'm still no further with the great fairies, but I have found one (unopened) on ground map. She said that she'll only open up if someone plays some music to her, hence what you wrote @Kenai ^^

I have completed 2 mazes at the top portion of the ground map which I found easy as they were more or less the same as the ones in BOTW. The 2 mazes also have sky counterparts to complete, followed by a boss underneath each of the lower mazes. Each were in total darkness so I had to fire these light-fruits (can't remember its proper name) towards the ground and walls to light up the area using my bow and arrows. After defeating the bosses, there were more dark areas to light up. It's absolutely fascinating as I'm finding chests with decent items and using the ascend rune takes me to other areas with new blue map checkpoints (to travel to/from like with shrines). They're on a new layer of the map though, beneath the ground layer.

For horses, I never successfully caught one in BOTW. I tried again in TOTK and failed many times. Even with stealth armour and crouching, they still sense me and bolt off. In the end, I saw a baddy riding a horse. I knocked him off the horse and killed him and the horse was good to go. Went to a stable and registered it. Various stats like speed and stamina plus a compatibility rating which was already at max.

Still got a loooooooooong way to go as I have still only defeated the 1st main dungeon/boss.

I finished this last night. I’d not played it since December 2023, when I basically stopped short of going to the final boss, so I was super rusty coming back to it. Once I got down to it, the boss wasn’t so bad, but maybe that’s just because I had like a trillion hearts by then.

I can’t be bothered chasing down umpteen lizards and whatnot to upgrade all the armours, so I think I’m done with this now. It was good, but kinda overwhelmingly huge.

Did you replay the whole game or just continue your save from before?

I know the first fight I felt was a bit underwhelming, but I do get that you're essentially playing the game and over preparing yourself, so why should it still be hard.

The final final battle I prefer it being easy as thars more for theatre than anything else
