I dunno, something clearly isn't working is it.

No, its not but he can only do so much. Yesterday for example. Onana makes an absolute howler for the first goal. He is questionable for the second and Dorgu makes a stupid mistake and gets sent off.

This has happened god knows how many times since he took over. Players not finishing chances. Shocking mistakes leading to goals.

The players confidence is clearly low. You could see how up and down they were yesterday and how much the fighting win meant to them. That wouldn't be the case in a team that wasn't struggling for confidence.

Amorim needs some key players. Dorgu was already making a difference. Fundamentally if we want to see better play and results then he needs to change to 4 at the back and a more classic formation in the short term. Hes not going to do that and we don't really want him to.

Our best forward is injured (Amad). One of the 10s that was looking good for him is injured (Mount). One of our better CBs that was also contributing offensively is done for the season (Martinez). Our best LCB/LWB option is unavailable (Shaw). One of our better midfielders is injured (Mainoo). Our most prolific forward is on loan and will be moved on in the summer (Rashford)

Its a complete mess right now and getting to the summer and sorting as much of that out as possible is all he can do. If we are looking at the same situation next March then he will be sacked at the end of the season and rightly so.

It is fair to say that EtH experienced a lot of the same/similar issues (recruitment aside). Would you agree?

Whole lotta if’s needed to get our squad to 6. I don’t disagree though that maybe if all were actually pulling their weight we’d be up there (not challenging but up among the cl places or thereabouts) but they all haven’t so ultimately, imo, they aren’t a top 6 squad. Obviously it’s all a matter of opinion and others will feel differently but I doubt anyone gets this squad regularly into the top 6.

Have people seen latest episode of The Overlap? 55 mins Neville and Keane don’t hold back with their thoughts.
Somewhat ironically I get a bit bored of them moaning  if it was more structured I could listen but they end up just bouncing around. If there are any particularly interesting insights please do share.

Top 10 the target??

I’d be happy with that. I’d love us to be battling for top a 4 or 6 spot next season but we need to be realistic - this squad is awful, for the most part, and a major overhaul is needed. That ain’t gonna be happening with a single summer transfer window.
Lets get Amorim a few players that suit what he wants to do and see how things go from there. Too many Man U fans thinking we should still be knocking about round the top of the table just because of past glories. Reminds me of Liverpool fans back in the 90’s/early 00’s.

Ironically Fernandes probably had his best game in a while last night in the deeper lying role. Far better positional discipline, won a couple of duels and obviously had three assists. You could also see he was absolutely shattered at the end of the match. I'm quite critical of Bruno. I don't think he's a great captain, he's incredibly wasteful at times but he always leaves it all out on the pitch and he is NEVER, EVER injured!

I think his best position in this team is the challenge but you can't fault his effort, commitment or versatility. Keane is a grumpy old guy who forgets that time has moved on. That's why he's not a manager anywhere. Today's players can't take the sort of coaching he gave out - apparently ten Hag said as much this week. The problem with not having Bruno as captain is that there is no-one else who looks anywhere near the exemplar that would warrant the armband.

Not seen the show in question (Gary Neville’s voice upsets me so I avoid him where possible) but completely agree with the above re Bruno.
I’ve said before, at times he’s a luxury we can ill afford but by god does he work his socks off and when he’s ‘on it’ he’s absolutely brilliant.
The interview last night after the match was quite telling in some ways - Bruno looked like an old man ready to fall over and big Harry looked like he was ready for a night out after the game (I appreciate Maguire doesn’t have to cover as much ground in a game but the visual comparison in the pair of them I thought was interesting)

The target next season should be top 8, ideally 4, but ultimately an improvement in style is the most critical thing, results will follow if they get the recruitment right (huge concerns in this area).

Amorim is getting a bit of a free pass for now, but he will need to have the team drilled and ready for next season as it simply can't continue to be this disjointed. I'm hopeful he can do it, if not entirely confident.

Alright, alright, you've convinced me, I'll wait and see what happens... :o

What's the realistic expectation for next season top 10?

Very realistic or he will be gone at the end of next season. They will expect European football, likely Europa. If we are erratic but great for spells in the league then he might get another year even if we don't get top 6. If hes not showing those signs though he will be replaced and rightly so.

Financially we need to be in Europa bare minimum next season. We are maybe 3-4 seasons of becoming insignificant globally.

Nah, that will take another decade or two but as we have seen, decades in the wilderness go by quickly.

Was watching a video with Neville talking to Rooney about how the dressing room had changed post Ferguson and he basically said "yeah, once the old guard left the kids took over and didn't give a ****. Lose a big game? Who cares the next day. All about having a good time."

Not too sure about that, regardless, going into next season with additional pressure is not going to help anything. There is already immense pressure on the staff and players due to the stature of the club.

I think it's fair to have high expectations, but people should be realising by now that demanding elite results from average players just simply doesn't work. There needs to be a period of reduced expectation which will hopefully allow the 'reset' we all want.

That being said, the next 3 months needs to be the lowest point, everyone is suffering quite badly now. Things need a relatively sharp upturn from the start of next season. If we've signed 4-5 players for Amorim and things look dire in October, I'll be asking plenty of questions myself.

Excellent tactic from Amorin really. Skirt with relegation and then next season sees some improvements to mid table and everyone is thrilled!
