Bruno is a player where his legs are not important. He is a machine and never gets injured. His stats are world class and that is being in this dog awful United team.

You see some players. Giggs as an example who just have great genetics for football. Bruno is one of those players. He could quite easily play until 36+. Like a Modric, Giggs, Maldini etc.
I’d hate to get rid of Bruno. I’d love to see him in a good Utd team. It’s just a shame he may not be around long enough for it to happen.

You can’t just get rid of the whole squad though and start again.

When has that ever happened apart from if a side has gone into administration. It’s a super tough job.

You’ve got just get a spin sorted first then go from there.
My post was wishful thinking. All the high earners aren't going anywhere (Case etc) and we're stuck with the new signings. The rest can go though.

I’m going to be quite optimistic here and say that I don’t think the whole squad needs replacing.

We have a couple of glaringly obvious problems.

1) Onana. He concedes a lot of really weak goals and the final was no exception.

2) Hojlund. He’s utter tripe, and I was keen to give him time. He gets bullied by people half his size, can’t hold up, can’t link up, can’t finish, can’t cross.

I reckon if you went through the season stats you wouldn’t have to erase too many Onana howlers and Hojlund misses to see our league position very different.

Yoro
Fernandes
Mazraoui
Amad
De Ligt
Zirkzee
Sorry

Are a decent core to build around.

Ugarte, Mount deserve a bit more time. Mainoo and Garnacho we should cash in. Hopefully rid of the loanees. Antony should fetch decent money on recent form.

I think we’d be a completely different team with a fit Amad and Zirkzee playing into a proper striker like Cunha.

I always think this is a weak point. Yes they've spent a fortune on players, but it's been spent badly by club executives who are terrible at their jobs. It's like spending a million quid on a Fiat Panda when you think you're getting a LaFerrari - you've spent the money but you've still made a terrible mistake.

I really don't go along with that. The Glazers have appointed a string of managers. Most of the managers were regarded as solid appointments. Nearly all of them were backed financially with the players they wanted. The only manager who was really screwed over was Moyes.

People can complain that the Glazers didn't have any long term vision with regards to the appointment of managers but it isn't fair to say they were shy about putting their hands in their pockets to back them all. As I said the club has spent more than any other club on transfers. They club has bought crap players, but the club has bought crap players the managers have wanted.

Its horrendous management from the top. Its like saying "why does my daughter have a coke problem and no degree? I sent her to the best schools, bought her the nice clothes, never said no to her and got her the best tennis coach money could buy". Because that stuff only matters if the core things are done properly. Its the part thats truly baffling. They are businessmen. Their bread and butter should be hiring the right people in the right roles. The sheer stupidity of it is mind boggling. If United were run as well as City or Liverpool over the past decade the Glazers could have taken out masses more money, spent loads less and had a happy fanbase along with a club that is worth a huge amount more than it is (no I am not getting into this again Baz).

I just don't understand it. Its not like there aren't blueprints on how to run a football club well in this day and age.

Are they actually businesses people or did they inherit it from their parents? It seems like Malcolm Glazer was the main guy, the rest seems clueless, from what little I can see (I.e. United management)

It reminds me of that scene from Apocalypse now. Where Martin Sheens character goes to an American outpost close to the border. Everything is just chaotic. They have all the best gear but no one is in charge. United has been like this for over a decade.

At least now it seems they are trying to get the right people in so we will see their mustard in this summer's transfer window. They have had plenty of time to plan for the two scenarios (Champs league and no Champs league).

Just saw this on redcafe when talking about selling Hojlund.

I’ll carry him there myself if they wanted. Mind you, he’ll probably be wrestling me the entire time and end up losing his luggage to someone else all the time. Probably will even miss the entrance to the plane or his seat.

Cracked me up

INEOS haven't shown anything that suggests they're the right people. So let's hope they do show it.

we don't have all the best gear, not even close to best.

You can spin whatever you want from the media but we have the biggest club stadium in the country which brings in the second highest ticket revenue. Carrington is still one of the top training facilities and we have spent 1 billion over a decade on players.

We should be doing a lot better than we are.

It's all catching up now though, due to the huge losses and contracts in place it really does feel like the club is as at a cross road. Who knows if it's even rock bottom yet?

None of those things are the ‘best’

edit: to be a bit clearer - we don't have the 'best' stadium, 'best' training facilities, 'best' squad - so what exactly do we have the 'best' of that made you liken that scene from Apocalypse Now to UTD?

I think what he meant is that all the tools were there at their disposal, they just wasted it all.

Are you trolling or do you not understand they did not put a penny into the club

I seem to understand it better than you do.

As majority owners of the club they controlled the club. The decided whether to pay dividends or not. They chose to retain profits in the company. Retained profits are a form of direct investment in EXACTLY the same way as transferring money from their bank account to the company bank account.

The Glazers could have asset stripped the club, they didn't. They could have extracted a lot more money from the club, they didn't.

The figures for this are available publicly.
