The maturity level in the Graphics Cards Forum.

welcome to the internet?
Think that pretty much sums it up :D.

Honestly, though I'm not around here much, I'd have to say OcUK is one of the more mature internet forums I've visited.

I understand your perception of how things play out in this section, but at least the discussion, for the most part, stays reasonable and doesn't brake down into who's mother's a what, and who's mother did such and such last night.

Safe to say, the forum's a long way off being compared to 'Youtube', in terms of discussion protocol :p.

The ati vs nvidia argument is always the worst, plainly because people go to extreme's to prove that the other one is wrong and will argue over 1-2 fps...

It is pathetic, mature discussion is just impossible.

no it isn't, it's just a row that's all.... you should see my other forum after we got beaten three one by Birmingham city yesterday :D

this forum is tame believe me, but we'd better calm down a bit or we'll all get suspended

i dont know why graphics cards cause these rows, because we never row over Coolers or PC cases etc do we, and these effect FPS as well

Just the graphics card forum? Really? You must be new.

I know it's not just the graphics card forum, however I've noticed it especially here, hence the thread. I'm well aware that this is what the internet can be like, however this forum seems to be generally a lot better than most in this regard.

As I said though, it seems to be getting worse...

Was it this subsection or the PC gaming subsection that got shut down for a couple of days a few years back? I remember the fanboyism literally exploding at one point and one of the subsections got closed for a few days to make people wise up. Nearly sure it was the gfx forum.

Wouldn't be surprised. I remember at one point (think it was the 69xx) series release that rather a lot of posters were banned from this subsection.

I feel that some people think they know whats best for everyone and won't change their view to suit others. Thats when the fight starts, as the rationally minded fight back. GH and CPU forums are quite bad too.

I've got the feeling of late there are some people trying to trash this section of the forum without being too obvious about it - some of the utter drivel mixed with knowledge of past threads coming from some relatively new posters makes me suspicious - probably more obvious from my point of view as I've seen (and fortunatly for the most part managed to avoid) people try to draw me into what they know from the past would be a contentious topic whilest hiding behind (disposable) alt accounts.

I'm suprised some of the people who do actually know what they are talking about still post here as they invariably get trashed - often bordering on personal attack rather than a difference of opinion - when they are completely right.

Ive been reading these forums since around 2007,one of the reasons i dont and did not post here much is because of the constant bitching over nothing and it is literally over nothing.

I see it similar to those times you're in a pub having a chinwag with mates and "that guy" wades in, tries to join the conversation without any social etiquette or or manners and offends everyone at the table.

One of the biggest problems is favouritism for a particular brand. I am terrible TBH and can't help but defend what I believe.

No more from me though. I do try and help guys with probs (mostly I have experienced them at some stage).

The problem is that the gfx card section is not actively moderated, it has not been for a few years.
Other sub sections on ocuk are actively moderated and ensure a no nonsense rule is applied.

Here we have only the RTM feature, which does not work properly, sure it can be used for the clearly abusive posts. However the big problem we have is some very clever and lengthy trolling. Where single posts themselves are too petty or insignificant to rtm, the combined "misinformation" and trash talk mainly posted by the same members does make almost all sensible discussions fruitless.

What we need is a active mod in this section, who pays attention to what is going on.
It's not a easy task, its a very active sub forum, and with 2 big brands there will always be disagreement. People have passion for their desired tech/manufacturers, it's good for business, competition can be exciting, interesting and fun.

If the current mods can't do what is needed they should step aside and look for someone who can. > Graphics Cards is neglected.
