The maturity level in the Graphics Cards Forum.

....go fudzilla and find a nvidia SUPERFANBOY by the name of sean...he lurks the comments section abusing every non nvidia fanboy all day long....he's pretty crazy...

points being..

i remember when i first got the internet back in 1999.....was a much less hostile place lol

lol i guess the AMD Vs Intel argument is pretty settled for the while, no one can realistically argue that one, so its AMD vs Nvidia now.. i'd have never thought that one up 10yrs ago or so when AMD vs Intel was a valid topic :D

One of the biggest problems is favouritism for a particular brand. I am terrible TBH and can't help but defend what I believe.

No more from me though. I do try and help guys with probs (mostly I have experienced them at some stage).

Its not favouritism thats the problem its a small sub-set of users who can't keep it to opinion and feel the need to make it personal when someone has a different opinion.

The problem is that the gfx card section is not actively moderated, it has not been for a few years.
Other sub sections on ocuk are actively moderated and ensure a no nonsense rule is applied.

Its moderated more than you think, I think, several users have had their access to this part of the forum suspended or permanently removed and infractions have been handed out - which typically tend to cool most people off except the ones intent on causing trouble. I think the problem is some users have gotten a bit more clever lately and being careful to stay just behind the line while trying to stir things up.

A classic, but, very apt. Kudos.

I am relatively new and like to share my opinion but can take it on the chin when i'm wrong. The main reason I even browse the forums is to help others and learn myself. Sadly some people seem to as said previously talk absolute drivel and also can be quite offensive in some cases.

Another issue is when people can't take being proven wrong or when they voice their beliefs as facts and don't appreciate that here may be more aware people on the forums who know better.

As for moderation, there isn't much active moderation as there is in, say, GD where many mods are active. I'm not saying that the mods here are useless, far from it, it's just that they're never present (at least not that i'm aware of)

Marshy for example is a don who i've never seen post and have recently just seen activity from. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it would be nice to see the dons voicing their opinions aswell.

Finally, I think anyone can get carried away when someone else is being attacked or trolled in defending them and therefore taking the thread off topic, even the best of us (ie, Surveyor ;))

This is about the truth of the matter. The problem is on top of subtle trolling over a period of time, many of the people that get accused of trolling, are actually correct in what they say, but get reported by AMD/Nvidia fanboys because they don't like to hear the truth. It even goes as far as people asking to have other people posts removed because they don't like to hear it!

That's not always the case, let's take harmony as an example. He was correct with what he said but he was also trolling subtly by constantly repeating the same thing over and over and turnin every single thread into one about lag spikes.

Thread trashing, maybe, trolling, no.

I disagree, I believe he was starting off genuinely trying to help, then he started posting graphs just to try and start arguements.
If it's the truth, rather than merely opinion then in no way can it be considered trolling if it was relevant to the thread that they were posted in. If anything it's those that attack him without a reasoned argument that are trolling and I think it's at the heart of Shayper's arguement.

What Harmony posted did have merit as a point of reasoned discussion.

What I'm trying to say is that he initially did make good points and there was healthy discussion.

Then it turned into most people agreeing that harmony was infact wrong about what he was saying as then threads were made where many personal insults were thrown around and I believe in the end harmony just ave up and started posting the same thing in every other thread, knowing full well that he'd start the same argument over and over again. That it why I believe he was trolling.

The thing is, if people believe something to be incorrect, doesn't mean it is. Plenty of other people then and since have shown memory usage to exceed the limits of some cards at high resulution in certain games.

I think providing you post a constructive and polite opinion then you have nothing to worry about. If someone else wants to assume otherwise about your intention, and attack or generally be negative in response e.g. cup half empty / keyboard warrior, then that is their problem (though it doesn't mean they can see it, of course). I think the subject matter is generally irrelevant - it's the expression of the mind behind it that matters, on any forum about any subject. What will be, will be.

While we're on the subject, I must know what happened that resulted in him getting a permanent ban. I can't help but be nosey. :p

haha take no notice,i know theres some good young uns out there

Lol tis no bother...... I was starting to think all of ye old PC codgers were all the same :p

On the topic at hand I followed all those convos the last couple of weeks and it's mental the blatant arguments people were trying to start because they didn't experience a certain thing that others did (without being relative to the OP) and were basically just shouting "You're wrong" to the people that experienced things they didn't.
