The Mentalist

Thought it was very enjoyable myself :), but then I do tend to like most shows of this style. It's been series linked on Sky+, so I'm looking forward to the next episode.

its pretty decent likeable characters mostly, some of the later eps feel pretty weak on the crime/mystery aspect, sorta like they weren't expecting a second half to the season so wrote the 2nd half uber quick like sooo many shows.

Happens all too often, a half series is writen with an ending, like Prison break series 1, its really good but someone decides its worth picking up, the series "end" ep becomes a midway ep, the story is changed so it can go on and the rest is writen in the space of a few weeks while the pilot and early eps are often being writen for years.

Hopefully if it gets picked up for a second year the writing will pick up signficantly in quality again with time to sort it all out.

I thought it had a pretty weak crime aspect anyway, since he could pretty much walk up to someone and within ~30 seconds work out whether they did or did not commit a crime :/

yes/no, actually I'm trying to remember them ep by ep, and I can't :p I guess its just overall the shows weaker not really just the crimes. Its less witty, the dialogues just not quite as good(although the cringeworthy god/religion stuff one of the characters spewed out is thankfully gone).

To a certain degree it also feels like its getting worse ep by ep as it gets later in the series. LIkely because they had idea's for more eps just not fully writen up so the first "new" eps had some thought, while later and later the closer it gets they end up rushing the scripts. The most recent ep was really awfully writen in terms of all the acting/dialogue of the none permanent characters in the show.

Its such a shame, I also don't really blame the networks that insist on small runs and ending up in this situation. The amount of cash that goes into making a show, making twice as many in a dud show that gets dropped means less cash going into new creative shows in the future. The more people like FOX lose on new shows the more they'll put together ridiculously cheap and easy to make reality shows that make a bucket load for the stupid people to watch. Its a fine line to tread, like I said I really hope it gets picked up and the second season gets more thought/planning and time spent on it again.

Yep i agree though i still like the show. However the latest episode from States ripped off the end of an old classic Columbo episode

It's in my list of shows I watch regulary every week. It's a pretty decent show, a few funny moments each episode. Prefer Life over it though.

If you like The Mentalist (fyi the definition of the word is at the starting credits) then you have to watch Lie To Me too, it’s more focused on this kind of psychology but I do like The Mentalist, it’s certainly different :p

As for Life, yeah Reese or the new temp-partner...hmmm! but she's not Reese!
