Its the same principal they use on battleships, there is nothing like a force field there at all.

They shoot the RPG down in some fashion.

Very cool but it isn't really a force field though, it is just a radar tracking and targetting system. It does make you wonder what other tricks we have up our sleeves though.

It says it targets explosive warheads and destroys them, but that the missile may still hit the target but do only kinetic energy damage. All well and good until they are up against DU penetrators.

Jeebus it's been in production since 1978.

My dad did some preliminary work on that system, he left the Navy in 1971!
