** THE MOST IMPRESSIVE LAPTOP WE'VE SEEN YET - SAMSUNG G7 3D GAMING LAPTOP! **

early days yet but so far i am very impressed, its the best quality laptop i have come across.
3-d seems good, only tried it with the demo i would appreciate any recommended stuff on 3d if anyone has time.
the power brick is huge, but with the different modes available you can extend battery life a lot if away from mains, i would guess around 3 hours.
the screen is very nice and rich.

How'd you get on with this laptop mate?

Also just a few questions about this laptop really interested in buying one.

Can 3D be activated on any game?

What does the CPU overclocker to in turbo mode?

Has anyone got any benchmarks in games n stuff for this laptop?

My Samsung 700G7A arrived this morning DPD.:)

Superb out-of-box "experience" with its shiny new look. And all this time looking for the 3D glasses Spec so i could buy them, are in the box!!! the shop i got it from said "glasses weren't included" Mind yopu, they also spec'd this as being 15.5 screen, 750 HD, @ 5400 RPM:rolleyes: itts obviously 17.3, but the HD's should be 7200, though i'll probably need to have a look inside to check (might be a 256 SSD inside:eek::eek:

I had a Toshiba Qosmio 770-107, and its "similar" specs to this. However, the selling point for me with this, is that it can look like a uni/library laptop, no tacky red/orange colours here ( though some do ascribe to these paterns, "union jacks" and all).....

It looks awesome. I'll unwrap COD MW3 and get started - later.....I need to lie down a bit...

I get the feeling the people that don't reply after buying this are enjoying their games far to much :p.

So eager to pick one of these up but have a few questions to get answered before hand.

Well, i've just set it up, configured drives etc (your given option to partition drives at set up). i'm typing on it now. Very fast boot up with it's 8 GB caching (i believe). Will write more as i go - and update you regurlarly (in this thread), as only just this last 15 mins set it up. The arrow keys are very nice, with distance from other keys to stop accidentally catching them (like I kept doing on the Toshiba Qosmio).

I'll check the HDMI out later Phil. Not playing games yet Joe, still suffering from the initial OOBE:)

I'd love to hear from someone who has had both this and the M17X alienware to compare the too. I get the impression that the Samsung would be more preferable due to the size/weight differences.

Samsung 700

First day with Samsung NP700G7A-S01UK

I’m not going to do a big review or anything, but just randomly point some features out that you may (or may not) want to know. Ignore the obvious things I say...

First impression is that it looks superb, and no one would be dissapoinrted with this. Like ive said, it can look "librarious' or extrteme! Its heavy, as you might expect, but no heavier than the Toshiba 770-107 I had before it, but lighter than some i could mention;) I’ve got it on my lap as I speak (in eco mode). Eco mode is perfect for typing, browsing web, reading pdf’s, mails etc. when using the batteries. You won’t be gaming on batteries anyway (about 3 hours battery would be expected in eco mode)

It gets warmer on the left-side of the keyboard (front, underneath) than other areas if compared. As an aside note, one of the selling points to me was the fact that the fans are on the BACK, so as a left-hander, I don’t suffer from skin burns like I did on the Toshiba, in which the fans were on the left; right next to my hand!!

(No fans on right side either as this is occupied by the Blu-ray (rom), and two USB's (2.0), the USB 3.0’s are on the left, 4 USB’s in all, along with display port,lan,vga,HDMI/mic/headphones/PSU in/l and lock.

The keyboard is good and “springy”, with lots of travel. Caps lock is displayed on/off onscreen, and also on the lights below the screen, along with mute/Wi-Fi/ and keyboard backlight key. The dial on the right side for changing modes (eco/balanced etc.) is very useful, but you have to be careful you’re not downloading something, as switching this back and forth turns the Wi-Fi off

Anyway,

Games loaded

• Crysis 1
• Crysis warhead
• Farcry 2
• Dirt2
• Bad company 2
• Dirt 3 (steam),
• Crysis 2 (steam)
• Aliens V predators (steam)
• F1 2010 (steam

All the games have been played at full 1920x1080, with high details (not played dirt3/f12010/AvP though yet). I’m VERY happy with the performance of all the games. Nothings crashed yet, no “blue-screens”/”stop-respondings” and the like, you know, those you get every day on your desktops!! :).

I wrote some benchmarks down when I had Toshiba X770 with 560m GPU. Just one here I’ll mention: Crysis warhead, Min: 17.62 Max: 34.71 AVG: 27.24 on the Toshibas 560m
The Samsung with its 6970m returned: Min: 28.67 MAX 51.12 AVG: 40.12 these are on gamer settings @ 1920x1080. When playing the game itself for 30 mins, it averaged 45-50. Dirt2/farcry2 smooth as butter (no stutters)

Not had chance (just yet) to get the 3D glasses out (some places charge over £100 these on google search). However, I noticed the 3D was greyed out in games last night, so I exited the game(s), and saw that the resolution was set to 60hz (120hhz now) I’ll have a look at this later.

Thanks for letting us know what the laptop is like mate, much appreciated. If you try out the 3D would love to know what it's like. I'm quite interested in buying this for Diablo III and a few other games out at the moment.

Hi joe,

Tried 3d/tridef tonight, and you load Tri-def 3d portal, and view movies, slides, and load games form here. Tridef "ignition" is were the games are detected, you can launch apps from there, or if they aren't listed, "add" them. Started with far cry 2, and when the game loads up, you can set 3D up from the onscreen panel that is loaded with the key num 0 button, and using numpad arrows to select.

From here there are loads of settings, from hig/low quality 3d (lower increses framerate) Depth/plane/ "Virtual" 3d (which isn't true 3d i don't think, but is for those with lower spec cards, as it increases frame rate. Got 45 frames in far cry 2 with 3D enabled, or thereabouts. I downloaded version 5.0 http://www.tridef.com/download/TriDef-3D-5.0.html

Out of interest Tony mate, was you still playing @ 1920x1080 and high settings for Far Cry 2 when you enabled the 3D?

I really want one of these laptops they sound quite amazing.

Hi joe

What happened was this. I launched far cry 2 up and I was told "this is not yet dx10 supported" so I set it to dx9 and reloaded it. It was full 1920x1080 with all settings very high. There are several settings In- game (top left screen when you press num pad 0) and your given options. "forward" view (or something like that) makes everything look in-your-face! Can be overwhelming at first, as too much effect isn't necessarily good -when you start off.

Will try more games out later and tell you the results etc. DVD (normal ones) can run in 3d which surprised me (full screen). It's getting used to it mind, and experimenting with it.

As for overclocking, I maxed out the ati overdrive (710/1000 I think) and ran vantage/crysis warhead. Gained 1000 gpu points nearly in vantage - with is VERY close to a 580m. (12344 GPU, from 11,445)

More later.

Thanks Tony, much appreciated. I'm going to try and pick one of these up next month, hopefully overclockers will have them in stock by then. Is there any chance you could upload some photos please?

I'm so impressed with the spec at this price, I bet the screen is lush coming from samsung.

Was trying to post a pic last night, but my SD card's protect switch broke on me, so was unable to load them up. Iphone cam wouldn't do it justice TBH.

Screens "brilliant", litarally (i turn it up half way as it can be too bright full on). Other games loaded are Battlefield 3, bioshock 2 (which looks great on this screen) and as few other older games from my old CD's.

Really considering ordering one of these today, Mainly for work and then some BF3 (Any body have any info on res & FPS with BF3?) - If I do, I'll also go for an SSD, so just wondering does the board support SATA3 or is it just SATA2?

I'd buy both :)

Just purchased this laptop, Hopefuly it will be with me tomorrow. Also just about to purchase a SSD to go with this, should be niceeeeeee.

Total cost with next day delivery: £1353 (Due to a coupon) - Ooooo I'm excited now :) - Will post a nice little review once I've had a play
