The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Those with the peak designs Leash, how do you feel about the attachment loops? I feel I'd replace the ones that hook through the metal canon strap anchors every year as a matter of course. I'm not sure they will stand upto the constant rubbing against that.

Just observe the condition every couple of months. No problems here, they're rated to 45KG of weight and my camera weighs ~3KG depending on what's attached.

You should have got a sigma as apparently it offers better IQ then the 35L and the build quality is just as good.

Which would be correct. Very good build on both lenses but neither are weather sealed so it's much of a muchness really. What has been said is that the AF on the Sigma is faster and sharpness slightly better, bokeh lusciousness is subjective, some like it sharp, some like it soft...

I'm sure someone will chime in with "nervous bokeh" comments soon but that can be seen on any similar prime.

A lot of the Sigma vs L comments come down to personal preference as well. The bokeh is slightly different between the two, they render their colours slightly differently as well, and generally speaking, personal preference over those small things can easily sway someone one way or the other.

Yeah it's not the weight rating that concerns me, more the wear from fretting. It's a nice idea, I'm just not that confident in the loops.

Maybe there are metal loop rings available that can go between the loop and camera strap loop like on Nikon bodies? I haven't looks but I'd be interested in something like that!

Good Idea, I'm going to try to find a couple of tiny key ring type loops :)

First lens arrived this morning :-)

It was personal preference for me, I spent far too much time looking at images from both threads and preferred the L images in general. I had the cash floating around so got a mint one second hand for not much more than UK Sigma costs new. Loving it so far.

Whereas I got mine a little over 3 years ago and has paid for itself many times over, I would have missed a lot of photos if i had waited.

Today, speaking from a business point of view, there is more reason to get the Sigma. It is cheaper, it is just as good, it handles the same situations just as well, your client will never be able to spot the difference in the images (a lot of them they don't care what camera you use, they just care about your work). The reason to get an L, a personal preference, it is hard to justify it with facts and figures, with the exception of may be the international warranty, so you can fix it here in the UK and not having to send it to the origin of where it was purchased.

On a side note, it also means all my primes matches :p

Well here's my collection of lenses taken with my Lumia 920... The macro lens is good but I expected it to get closer than I've been able to. Somewhat disappointed with it if I'm truthful. It's probably my lack of experience with it though.

As for the basic 55-250mm I'm really impressed for the price. Pictures are very good quality but again I'm only shooting with auto and not messing around with settings as I really have no idea what's what

You bought the 100mm L and though you would get those mega zoomed in bug photo's didn't you :p

Yep, well that's what the guys in Jessops said (did not buy from there). Like I said, I'm no expert and I'm willing to learn. So for my camera, which would you recommend so I'm able to get very close in ?
