*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Well, I popped into the shop to have a look at them today...quite impressed all told. Both the macbook and macbook pro are nice machines. I have reservations about the trackpad but I suspect you'd get used to it pretty quickly (I tend to use mine with my thumb resting on the button, which screws it up when the whole thing is a touch pad).

I'm slightly surprised that apple have let the macbook get so close to the pro, I'll be replacing my macbook pro in the next few months and I have a feeling I may go for a macbook as it's difficult to justify the extra £250 for the pro.

I will say though, I'm really annoyed about the removal of firewire from the macbook, it's stupid and pointless and a real pain (Which may get me to buy a macbook pro - the extra £250 I'd save would just go on replacing external hard drives and sound cards with inferior USB ones...)

How else can they get away with charging what they do. They sell a lifestyle product with the cliental to match. They don't spend millions developing brands for nothing.

Check the Apple online store.
£60 off a printer
£95 off an ipod nano (only for those in HE)

both have to be bought from the Apple online store. if you buy under the HE scheme there is a big discount and you end up paying very little for the extras

the offer is exactly the same as it is online, even more so you get more discount when you buy in the shop. the £60 and £95 still applies in store.

also i had a look at the macbook/pros today and to say you can actually see from most angles on the glossy screens, and im guessing its the new LED screens theyre using. but then again if youre gona be doing printing work, graphics, or outdoor work then a glossy is still a no no seeing as the reflections will be pretty bad from that.

Just been in my local apple reseller and I have to say that the Macbook and the Pro are both gorgeous machines and I would love to buy one...

But...

For half the price of a 2.4ghz model I can get a refurb 2.4ghz 20" iMac, so I can't really justify it as I would literally be using it purely as a desktop machine. Also with the difference I can buy a decent netbook w/ linux and still have money left over.

So I think I will just have to buy the iMac now and see how much longer my used and abused 1st gen Macbook lasts and then buy a netbook.

The ASUS eee S101 is currently tickling my fancy.

Damn Australian prices.

Here we go.

I could have taken some better ones and more of them but I'm going out...like...now. So I'll take some more tomorrow for you all :)

Hope you like them though

Was considering the new macbook until I saw this http://gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review

The viewing angles aren't great.

Can you take a few pics at that angle with a predominantly black screen, like ins the gizmodo examples, in the light and in the dark.

If you're doing colour critical work then you wouldn't be doing it on any notebook screen, you'd be doing it on an external (professional quality) display. Glossy or matte was always a personal preference thing more than a technical issue, the screens aren't brilliantly colour accurate anyway. The only really valid argument is using it outdoors and even then how many other brands offered the option, sony certainly didn't bother...

Yeah its a real problem if you sit with your chin on the trackpad......

Then again you could angle the screen to your head abit!

Exactly, for something with a 13" screen why would you want to sit anywhere other than face onto it. Its not big enough to watch films etc on from a distance.

If it's anything like the previous MacBook, you can be looking dead on perpendicular and there's still noticeable colour shift between the top and bottom of the screen.

Point being that they use low quality panels in the non-Pro models (despite now being LED backlit, if that picture is anything to go by. It's hardly an extreme angle)

Its a pretty bad angle to be looking at the screen to be honest :)

I understand that they are just showing the difference by going to that angle but few people including myself will be bothered by it.

Hi guys!

Just been out and bought the £949 macbook! :D

My 1st ever mac and I love it, great quality, fast as anything and I am nursing a semi ;)

Got 10% staff discount too, so its all good.

Wanted a mac for ages, and have been saving up for the new revision for ages. Was expecting it to be £699 like the previous entry level mac - so was a bit more money than I wanted to pay, but hey ho we only live once! Plus Ive got 6 months to pay for it to - so Im quite happy.

At 18 - this is the most expensive item I have ever bought in my life, so I hope my times with this macbook are great, which Im sure it will.

In short - the new macbooks are fantastic, if you have the money, you wont regret it. :)

Yes, but wouldn't you expect more from such a price premium, whether you use it or not? I am sure the time will come when it is difficult to share your laptop screen with somebody
