Phone is rooted.

Using ADB or app solutions, you can now get rid of orange stock apps. (I use a versatile paid app called "SU File Manager and Terminal"). Most of the orange apps are actually very useful if you're an orange customer like me.

edit:

although there was this potentially unsafe method of removing orange apps prior to root being achieved.

Great!
What's the battery like ghost? The typical 1 day affair?

I'll let you know tomorrow. I didn't really let it charge before I started using it. Also, it may take a while before the battery starts working properly.

I'd guess it's the standard charge it every night scenario.

Stone,
this is a rebranded ZTE Blade if anyone is interested, as there isn't much info around for its orange form

my wife phoned orange this morning she still can't get a desire or SGS they said it wasnt available over the phone or on the internet for pay monthly peeps but if she went into an orange shop that stocked them she could upgrade there? strange

Phoned my local Orange store.... no stock, no idea if they'll ever get any. Ok, no problem I can give up my NHS employee discount this time.

Online, complete order... no delivery options available for your address...

Ah well, if Orange don't want my money :).

Hmmm, no scrolling device, could make accurate text editing difficult.

otherwise it looks extremely impressive for the price.

Hmmm, this looks tempting, have been wanting to go Android for ages!

Have an N97 at the moment, not in fantastic condition (dropped a few times), but works completely, should be able to get £130-£150 on the bay for that, is it worrth "upgrading" (sidestepping) to this?

Whilst I love the N97, I want a change and this seems like a good idea...

I was just about to head into town and purchase the LG Optimus, glad I saw this thread, I think I'll order this instead as I could really do with the extra res display for web browsing on the loo in work :p

Likewise, was going to purchase the GT540 too today then stumbled across this thread and i`m now the owner of one san francisco currently being charged up. :)

1st android phone but 1st impressions are pretty good, seems popular too as when i popped into gravesend this morning at 10:30am they had already sold 3!

Remember the first thing you should do, is go into the app drawer and use the homescreen selector provided by orange and select the vanilla android launcher as default and the one to be used on bootup.

Of course Launcherpro and ADW.Launcher are good alternatives.

Only thing stopping me getting this is an unlocker - hopefully there is 1 out soon and I will get buy the phone and put my 3 sim in it. Saves me paying big bucks for the Desire Z when it comes out!

This isn't really a competitor to the Desire Z. However, if you mean as a temporary phone, that's prceisely what I'm using it as.

This looks interesting! Was looking at the Pulse, but its almost impossible to get the original Pulse (not mini) for a decent price new

Will research this phone though. Thanks for the info as well!

It's a ZTE. Look at the link ghost101 provided.

I wish I could work out how to get Orange to sell me one! What an odd business practice, not selling to people because of their location .
