The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Where did you hear that?

In this thread (about the texting) and the crashing elsewhere.

I came from an iphone 2g which had a fantastic touch screen and worked well with texts which meant i could put down a good word per minute. On this phone it just seems to get confused, lock up and then the auto dictionary kicks in just ends up putting a mess on the screen.

For features and ease of use, yes it's a fantastic phone. But the little details are where it matters for me and this phone just doesnt have it. The build quality seems a bit off too. I have a good collection of small fibres and dust under my screen (this is with it in a pouch)

I have found that as well. Well, since the first day I got it really. Having used my iPod Touch 2G for so long before, the touchscreen on the SF doesn't feel as responsive to me. Browsing as well on the iPod feels better to me.

Good phone, no doubt considering the price, but I think I need to move on!

But if it's all fine with a new ROM then I'll go ahead... unless there are any other phones with this screen size for the same price?

My phone has never crashed.

I probably have to reboot it every couple of weeks because of minor annoyances (can't even recall why, but things like phantom apps running at 50% load or the stock gallery app being a PITA on 2.1)

On 2.2 it's very aggressive at freeing up memory, where 2.1 will just leave everything running and saturate your free memory.

I find texting is quite good :) Using the HTC Modded keyboard port thing which somes with SS-5, i think its this one i have :D

Bog Standard messaging application and its smooth, also with Swype when i used to use it, it was pretty fast :) maybe sometimes it would lag behind the actual speed of which i swype'd but :p

Also emailing with the keyboard is fine.

I can't find one of these things for under £110 :o (£100 for the phone and £10 for the mandatory top up which I obviously don't want)

Is this the cheapest they are now? I'm sure they were on offer for around £80 a few months ago.

The price has gone up a lot now since the phone has become popular. I suspect that they are doing this to make the Monte Carlo look cheaper.

In the end I gave up on this and got another phone on contract. It actually ended being better value for money in the long run.

Cool, downloading SS now 5 now, hopefully make a difference :) Because at the moment its making me wish I forked out for an IPhone :o

install it

go to settings-language and keyboard - tick a box on the "perfect keyboard"

open a text message, hold you finger on the input box - a window will pop-up, tap on "input method" and select perfect keyboard

tip - in the settings of the "perfect keyboard" change the theme to "honeycomb" that i found is very good/feels better when typing compared to the rest

EDIT:
