The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Play.com quote OLED

On play they are allowing pre order of white SF at 99.99 inc 10 credit.
They also quote OLED screen!
So does this guarantee that it will have the better screen?
Or a valid reason for return?

Yeah should be OLED then if not then send it back. Item not as described.
 
This is pre order.
I think they have copied an old spec sheet but have posted a question asking if this is oled?
If I get feed back will post here!
 
I went into the orange store today and picked up mine (finally!) bought the white version..unlocked it using the website that was on here (thanks!) very happy with it, will remove the orange bloated stuff on there, so far installed last.fm time to look at the android apps topic me thinks..thanks for the tips!
 
Anyone else having trouble picking up their Email??

Both myself and my Daughter both still on Orange are having trouble accessing Email?? All as been ok for the first 2 months, but now not able to get any email and keep getting different error codes??
 
I really wanted one of these but unsure if I should go for it now it has the TFT screen, as I'm worried about the battery life and display quality.
 
Well, ask yourself if this is your price point? If so, there are no other credible options. If the higher price points are within your grasp... then I guess it can be a tougher decision.

Turns out my wifes new phone is a TFT and I couldn't tell the difference between it and the OLED without checking the boot version and that the auto brightness seems to be a bit dimmer.

Battery life wise its showing about 80% left having been charged over night on saturday for the 1st time and used for a few texts and apps since, which I don't think is overly bad.

If at £85+10 top up + quidco isn't a good deal on a phone of this quality I don't know what is...
 
Yeah I think I'll probably buy it anyway, going to give them a call tommorow and try to get it for £74 using my mate's old orange mobile number. Might work, some seem to have received the discount on a SIM without a top up and only a few days old!
 
Going to finally get one of these over the weekend, woo :). As a first time smartphone user, I guess I wouldn't notice a great deal of difference in the OLED / TFT versions, but reading on the Modaco forums it seems some ROMS don't work with the TFT model which is a bummer. Or will the ROMS be tweaked for TFT in time?

I phoned my local Orange shop say they are unaware of the screen change but have a few in stock from a few months ago and have put one aside for me, might be OLED but they don't know.

Is there anyway for a phone newbie like myself to tell the difference between them?

From what I can tell (got the OLED one at the weekend), pure black images appear black on oled but are more of a lit up grey on tft. If not then go into the phone settings (the shop should let you have a look at it) and at the bottom to 'about phone' and get the build number, if it ends in 05 then its OLED but if its 08 then it could be either.

Will they not get arsey about breaking the security seal?

Hello forum

Ive been following the thread & just registered to say that I found a stash of the Grey amoled screened san francisco's hidden away at the Orange kiosk right in the back of the HMV store in the Mall @ cribbs Bristol http://www.mallcribbs.com/getting_here.php

Just 30 yards away the big Orange store is completely sold out of all versions (even their early stock of the white versions!) with no exact date on when they may get more & that they WOULD be lcd! :mad:

As a last shot I went in hmv & found behind the music, behind the books, behind the games... a very bored looking guy perched on a stool in the furthest darkest corrner of the strore!!!
After explaining the led/lcd thing (& getting him to shut up about the white one coming on the 16th!) it transpired that they had quote:"Plenty of the grey one" & that their stock dated "From Launch, Back October time"

I said GIMME GIMME GIMME... lo & behold it has the led screen :D
so if your still after one get there quick, no telling if "Plenty" means 30 or "Plenty" means 3! but these little sub shops are geared towards selling predominantly payg packs.

If your nowhere near Bristol then try searching for those small franchise shops that sell out of other stores they may be your best bet cuz if this kiosk just across a packed shopping centre from an Orange store that's selling them like hot cakes still has old stock there could be other hidden gold mines lurking out there in sub shops people just aren't aware of (I hadn't been in that store in 10 years! completely forgot there was an orange desk in there till I checked the store locator)

Just put the alpha 3 of the 2.2 rom on and it works really well. The TFT is fine as well and new sim has stopped random texts on startup.
