Well, after over a month and a half trying to get a refund for the faulty one, I've finally got a new one from a local Orange shop :). As far as my newbie phone eyes can tell me it's a OLED (05 build no. black is black in dark surroundings and not grey etc). Took a while to track one down though with all of the staff in every shop not knowing that there was a change in screen types. Very happy with it. If anyone in the North East wants to know where there is a couple left, just yell.

For cases I bought a HTC Desire S520, someone from the Modaco forums recommended it, very nice fit and secure, can post some pics if anyone's interested.

Think I'll give the customising a go tomorrow. It is Root > Clockwork Recovery > ROM in that order isn't it?


EDIT: Argh! Choice overload on memory cards. SanDisk 8GB Micro SDHC for £8.99 sound good?

Well i rang the local orange shops and they had none in stock :(

I'll give the Shop in Leicester a call and see if they have any, thanks for the info Smashie :)
 
It's a HTC S520 Desire Leather Pouch, just search ebay for it, about £7.

Has a neat little pull tag at the back. Pull it and out pops the phone. Also the tag is magnetic so it's not flapping about when the phone is in place. Very secure fit as well, can hold it upside down and give it a good waggle :).

Stock of the OLED phones is extremely low now and sold out in most Orange stores. The online store and telesales no longer have any stock and they are waiting for a shipment of the new TFT screened grey phones to arrive in the UK.

The white version should be in stock. Have you tried calling the two Orange stores in Derby?

Where is the rout on the SD card? Does one just drag the operating system (2.2) on to the card or insert it into a file?

Just put the Zip file directly onto the memory card and then use clockworkmod to load the image (Power + Down Arrow) use 2.5.0.9 as the latest release is full of bugs and will error. Remember to clear the cache before flashing image and make a backup of you current flash.

I,m now using the modaco 2.2 beta with a few tweaks and find it the most stable 2.2 so far... Make sure you give the phone a good few restarts to get the best performance. Mine was awfull slow but as one of the chaps said above you need to restart a few times and now all is good..

Many thanks for the speedy reply - I am totally ignorant as is obvious!
Unfortunately I have used the 2.5.1.3 must I now carry on or can I try just adding the 2.5.0.9 ? I have not as yet put on a new os
I am having freezing probs having to remove the battery etc which may be the result of having a TFT - so must check that the os that i apply is tft friendly

I would re-flash with the 2.5.0.9 version i found 2.5.1.3 to keep causing problems installing Roms. Have you unlocked the phone weirdly after i did this i had less freezing issues.? Cant explain that but worth a go. Yeah you need the correct Rom for the TFT version. So far i loaded mine up last night and have not had a single crash and have been using most of the day..

I tried ringing all the shops in leicester and derby and they were all automated, I expect it's because it was Sunday :(

I'll try again tomorrow, may end up getting one from the bay at this rate but they're going for around £140 + delivery :eek:

Well I'd be very surprised if Orange.co.uk and Orange telesales don't get new stock in before Christmas. Still got two weeks until the big day.
 
They look pretty nice. I might have to pick one of those up and they don't seem bad for £99.

I've not actually seen any in the orange shops at the moment just hope they get them in soon.
 
Just browsing the Bay when a Brand new Unlocked phone popped up for £120 on a buy it now. So i thought what the heck it's only £10 more than one from orange (£99 + £10) I'm happy with that :)

I'm an iPhone owner and have never dabbled with android, Should i put the latest 2.2 Froyo on it and is it easy enough?

Btw this is my sons for christmas.

Yeah it's easy enough. Just follow the guides at Modaco and if you get stuck there are loads of people who can help.
