The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Does the PAYG customer have to live at the same address the phone is delivered to?

I have a friend who has been with Orange for a while but they live the other end of the country.

I managed to get a friend of a friend's orange number (haven't even met them) and used that. Got it for £74 during the additional 15% discount period.

PiKe: a lot of PAYG customers don't register addresses with their SIM cards, so I can't see it being a problem.

Is the Loyalty Discount not a fixed amount then?

Just called and they say you have to have been using and topping up over the past 6 months.

Dunno, I'd just ask if they can do anything for you because you've been with them for so long.

I put on a 'LCD SCREEN PROTECTOR FOR SAMSUNG I900' from ebay as someone recommended them over at Modaco. They came in a 6 pack and the fit is really good.

For cases there's a few mentioned with pics on previous page or two. I'm happy with mine, although looking at the flip case I'm tempted to get that one as well :).

Thank you, i'll have a look

Just a heads up, all sold out here (Derby) in both Orange stores.

Asked the guy if they would have anymore in, said not for a while.

Also asked if I could reserve one with the AMOLED screen to which he replies 'Sorry Sir, we've never done a San Francisco with an AMOLED screen' even though i've seen comparisons on image quality between the TFT and AMOLED version.

Just reserved the last one at my local Argos, hopefully its OLED but who knows.

£99+£10 airtime

I was looking at getting this phone need a new one.

But what is with this product baiting ?

Release the phone for reviews with an OLEd then secretly swap out the insides for a tft ? why is that even legal ?

Some people have suggested it is likely down to demand, the OLED screens weren't being supplied fast enough so they made the switch to TFT. Sounds logical.

Seems the tft screen version gives longer battery life ?
Might get one of these, anyone know if contract orange customers can get a discount ? when you say it's £79 to PAYG customers what does that mean ? PAYG is pay as you go ? surely someone with 3 running orange contract phones is qualified for this discount too ?

Got this phone with the gift box in white, really pleased with it, unlocked, clockwork installed and starting to play with firmwards... but wondering which firmware to use. Bladevillan was my first choice after looking at the recommends on here but then I've just seen MoDaCo MCR Froyo mentioned :s

Its for a teenage girl, I need it to be problem free after its set up and not need attention past handing it over, just need it to be really user friendly and well behaved.

I,m using the Modaco 2.2 Alpha r2 which so far for me has been very reliable I have not had any freezes or crashes since using it. Also my battery life has almost doubled compared to the orange Rom. Make sure you flash it with Clockworkmod 2.5.0.9 as I found the latest version caused the Rom to fail install..

Was that the Orange shop in Westfield? If so it could be the same clueless monkey my mate ended up speaking to last Saturday, rude and had no idea.

We didn't buy one in the end. He's seen mine and really wants one but think he's just going to order of the net :)

I'm thinking of buying one of these for Mrs Dimple and I know where there are two.
I haven't got time to go through 1500 posts so -

1) I know it's not going to be as good as a Samsung Galaxy but is this phone really worth getting?

2) She is with T-Mobile on a contract.
I presume this phone can be hacked to work with that Sim?

3) Can somebody link to simple straight forward idiots guide instructions on how to hack it and not just 'It's on the Modaco site' please?

Yes its not as slick or fast as an i phone but for the price it is superb

Really easy to follow guide in the first post of this thread.

Once again really easy to follow guide on page 1, the Guides on Modaco site are really easy to follow as well. Its a really simple phone to hack and install custom Roms onto. There is even a video guide which you can follow.

Hmm...I've had the phone three days now, and currently just tinkering...is it really worth flashing it etc?

I have no idea which 'versions' etc to put on, never owned or been involved with the Android market etc so i really have no idea

Yes, the original orange Rom is awfull and full of bloatware that runs in the background. I have been using the Modaco 2.2 with a few customisations of my own and it is so much better. My battery life has doubled and I have not had a crash in days.

Just make a back up of your original Rom and try some others if you dont like you can always re-flash back to stock but I guarantee you wont... Just remember to re-boot a few times after installing the Roms..
