The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Nope once unlocked you can use any sim it just asks for the code on the first one....

Just thought i'd say thanks for all your help / information by the way, much appreciated :)

To sum up, download Modaco 2.2 (Which is the ROM...?) and Clockworkmod 2.5.0.9 (To flash it...? And that version because you believe its the most stable one with Modaco 2.2 atm? :))

Thanks again

I went home for lunch and found it in my porch, nice of the driver to leave it there as expected.

I have to admit that I am impressed with it so far. I think it is the TFT but i'm not overly fussed as it was only £79.

Got it charging, have to swap the 2Gb for my spare 8Gb Micro SD and then get to flashing the ROM. Time to read up on which one to use. And then I have to find a case.

Orange threw in some gifts if anyone is interested. I haven't opened them all up yet but one was a deck of playing cards. Another was a white diamonte watch. That'll be going to the girlfriend.

All in all. I'm happy :).

All good there you will also need fastboot. The later Clockworkmod causes the Rom to fail when installing for some reason. 2.5.0.9 works fine with all the Rom,s i have tried.

Modaco 2.2 is the Rom. Once you have Clockworkmod working, copy the Modaco 2.2 zip file to the sd card on the phone do not unzip it you need the complete zip. Then load clockworkmod by turning the phone on by holding down the vol - and the power button. Everything will be upside down this is normal. Before you flash make a backup of your current Rom, Then select flash Rom from zip file and let it do its thing it only takes 1-2 mins. You then need to clear the cache after flashing to prevent booting errors. Thats it should now be running 2.2 it can take a while to load on the first go and remember to give the phone a few re-starts to get everything running ok...

Can this phone be set to only use internet over wireless, ie when your out it doesn't try at all. Thinking about it for my girlfiends daughter as she needs a phone, she was going to get a itouch for her birthday but the Blade is cheaper than the itouch and could do both... Problem being she has a text only type t-mobile tarrif so won't want it using credit when she is out but when she is at home she can use wireless internet.

Yeah, you can easily turn roaming off. Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks and toggle "Data Connection" and "Data Roaming" off. WiFi settings are kept separate so you can leave those on.

Whats the fastboot thing? I presumed it was a rom going by the description on modaco:

Step by step install instructions

* Download 2.5.1.3 ClockworkMod Recovery for ZTE Blade - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: 0733acd513717f2dc7ee08809bd7ea20
* Download fastboot if you do not have it already.
* Turn off your phone and take out the battery. Unplug the phone from the PC / charger.
* Replace the battery and turn the phone back on with 'volume up' held. The device will stay at the 'green android' screen.
* Plug the phone into the PC.
* Extract the fastboot zip file.
* From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!) run 'fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.3-blade.img' (subsituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required)
* When this finishes, from the command prompt run 'fastboot-windows reboot' (again substituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required)
* Done!

confused now, I had it all set out in my mind! :p

Oh, and which Modaco 2.2 are you using? As the one in the OP is Alpha? Or is that correct

Do you install fastboot then use fastboot to get clockwork on then finally the rom you want or does clockwork superseed fastboot now?

Fastboot is part of the Dos commands. I,m using the Alpha 2.2 as per the link, there is no official 2.2 release as such...

If you follow the guide you have posted all will be good just replace the clockworkmod for 2.5.0.9 and remember you will need to change any commands to this as well...

Create a folder on your Pc and unzip the fastboot and 2.5.0.9 files into it. You will then need to use a Dos prompt so you will need to acces the file in dos. Its easier if you extract everything to the root of a drive which saves finding folders in dos..

So presuming you extracted everything to the c: drive and are using the modaco 2.2 alpha the command would be -

fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.9-modaco-r2-blade.img

This will install the clockworkmod onto the phone....

Navigation in the recovery image as follows:

* Volume Up / Down to move between options
* Home key to select an option
* Back key to go back

Step by step install instructions

* Download 2.5.0/9 r2 ClockworkMod Recovery for ZTE Blade - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: d7664757ec3d4862cc408b7304e4df8f
* Download fastboot if you do not have it already.

Once you have installed clockworkmod you will have options to backup from within the clockworkmod menu...

Ah excellant, that post should be stuck in the original post somewhere, much easier to understand.

Once i've read through it I know what its talking about now :p Thanks again, I'll give it a go and post back later :)
