The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Got one from the Orange store in Inverness yesterday, I was surprised they had them in!

Just took it out to charge and I must say it looks fantastic. I much prefer its styling over my Magic. :( I'm starting to wish I bought this for myself now, haha.

Once it's fully charged, I'm going to look into unlocking it and then installing Android 2.2.

How do I tell if I've got the TFT or OLED version?

Start it up in a dark room and look for backlight glow.

Thanks PiKe. I've ran into a problem... I just turned the phone on for the first time after leaving it to charge, and it's stuck on the Android boot screen. (the green man)

I know they usually take a while to start on their first boot, but it's been left for 15 minutes now!

Were you accidentally hold down one of the volume keys while turning on the phone, or have it connected to USB?

If you did then it will stay on the green android logo.

Pull the battery and try again.

Just 1 question from me.. if the fastboot file was for example in the root "C:/" would I type "C:/ fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.9-modaco-r2-blade.img" into the command prompt? May seem an easy question but I'm not quite sure what you meant by "From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!)".

As someone else said

Bring up Command Prompt / CMD...

It will no doubt be showing something like 'C:\users\bob' or 'C:\Windows\blah blah'

Type cd\ or cd.. untill you are at 'C:\'...Then basically you need to type the 'fastboot' stuff there (As long as your fast boot files etc are on the root of C:\....ie C:\fastboot)

:)

Took 3 attempts but it's working now, cheers!

EDIT: Another problem... I think the internal volume up button is stuck. It won't stop, as if it's just being held on...
It most likely is a faulty unit and needs replaced.

When the volume up button is held during boot up, it freezes at the bootloader to allow for "maintenance", hence why it was freezing at that point

Gah, guess I'll take it back to the shop and hope they have a replacement. :(

does anyone else have any probs with poor speeds on orange 3g i have a full set of bars for the signal but 90% of the time the speeds are very low or non existant.

Bought another because a lot of people had been receiving the OLED version from prepaymania.

Here's hoping.

Wooooooo! Just picked up my phone from Argos in Heanor (Derbyshire), got the TFT one as they've sold out of the OLED ones ages ago and i'm thoroughly impressed with the image quality.

If you're thinking about getting one of these then just buy whatever you likr, the TFT screen on this phone is bright and crystal clear, i'm impressed.

Down to business, i've never used an Android/Smartphone before. What's the best ROM/RAM to download and use? Want to get rid of all this Orange crap that's all over the phone.

I used this one (get both zips and install lite first).

basic Q

anyone here own the white version ? not worried about the tft / oled screen just want a general consensus on how the white compares to the grey in terms of aesthetics

cheers

This is going to sound super retarded but i'm absolutely loving this phone! You can go on the internet and YouTube and all sorts! A world of change from my old Samsung Tocco. Proper loving this, can't believe how sharp and crystal clear the screen is too.

@ PiKe

Will have a look in a sec mate, cheers!

got mine, unlocked it and installed a custom rom. Only problem ive noticed is mine wont come out of standby / sleep. Pressing the power button does nothing. LCD backlight is still on, but nothing happens!

mine wont turn on now. it switches on, shows the main screen, then goes into like a standby straight away and wont come back on. Battery is charged. Not sure what Argos returns are like, but it might be going back, and I might be sticking with my trusty old nokia 2730!
