The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

This is going to sound super retarded but i'm absolutely loving this phone! You can go on the internet and YouTube and all sorts! A world of change from my old Samsung Tocco. Proper loving this, can't believe how sharp and crystal clear the screen is too.

@ PiKe

Will have a look in a sec mate, cheers!

me too. very impressed. it is a lot better with froyo on there though. :)

Quick question, i've not messed about with any ROM's yet just been trying to get used to the phone and loving all the functions.

For some reason it keeps dropping my wirelesss internet connection every now and then, is there a proper way to configure this or have I set it up wrong?

so whats the general consensus on this phone, my local argos has them instock for £99, i had planned to go for a 2nd hand HTC HD2, but a quick read over this thread has made me think about this phone.

pretty useless unless Im just impatient or thick! Stock orange rom is quite laggy. the other modified ones are much better in terms of speed but seem buggy with things not working right! I guess its ok if you have time or want to mess around with it but i'll stick to the basic phones i think :p

Personally I love it. Still on the bloated Orange ROM here but it's lightning fast for me, not laggy at all. The screen is amazing and I have the TFT version with the OLED one meant to be a lot better than the TFT one. Very responsive, easy to use... I love it lol.

Well i've reserved a white one at my local argos for pickup tommarow so we will see if i fair any better:p

I love it. Moved from a 'normal' old style mobile that does the basic phone stuff and this just blew me away. If youve not had other proper smart phones before (not talking the limited symbian stuff of yesteryear) then this is such a great thing to move onto.

Im yet to try and swipe it with a custom rom - still fiddling about and getting used to the different things on the handset.

For me the OS is very smooth even with all the orange rubbish taking up space, the camera isnt as bad as is being made out (its not like you are going to take professional shots on a phone anyway..). I love the customisation and the sheer amount of different apps available on the android market, Wifi and 3g mean I can browse the internet wherever with pretty good speeds - proper internet aswell, full fat, full info.. I think it looks great and even though the parts appear to be a bit cheap, it still feels very solid. Have yet to find a fault with it. It is a budget phone but punches way way above its weight.

Edit: Have an OLED one myself.

Have you been wiping the phone fully each time you've flashed the ROM (Data/Cache/Dalvik Cache)? The vast majority of people have had no issues with the MCR 2.1 as it's just a modified stock ROM at the end of the day, so I'm surprised you're having issues with that one.

I've been on r3 of the 2.1 MCR for 3 months now, I've had very few issues outside the odd random reboot (once a week at most) when they finally nail a fully working version of 2.2 I'll be jumping ship to that.

Question -

I've got the SF for my wife and she will not be bothered about ROMs and such like.
The phone in it's native condition will impress the hell out of her but I do have one worry.
The other day I unlocked the phone to work with my Orange sim and was working with phone/text and data (well actually I didn't have to unlock with my sim).
I then ninja'd her T-Mobile sim out of her phone and unlocked but was only able to get phone & text because she isn't on a data plan.

I've been told that if I buy a £10 Tesco sim that I will have put another rom on for the data to work - is this true?

As said you need to input the correct APN settings for data and MMS to work. The phone had the orange settings already on there as it's an Orange branded phone.

Well I am on my 3rd phone and my daughter's 2nd, hope these work out, I insisted on the replacement to be Oled and they were both delivered on Sunday morning not bad but I prefer one that works!!

Still have problems getting our email, even Orange are unable to find out what the problem is. When we first got the phones we were able to get our emails no problem, then after about 3 weeks we keep getting this message, "unknown error while retrieving available connector", been back to the shop twice, still no luck, anyone any ideas!! Email is on hotmail.
