I've seriously got the upgrade itch at the moment. But hesitant due to so many mixed thought on an upgrade. I have approx 200quid to spend. Do you think it's worth to shell out for an upgrade now? or hang on till next year?

It is faster, but I'd hold out - the 4890 is still a good card, at least wait until the GTX580 and 69xx series come out. Three main reasons:

a) More choice.
b) Possibility of higher level cards price war, which might bring them within reach
c) You may be able to pay a little more and get a much better card.

not sure I agree with the above really - as the £200 market isn't where the 580 and 69xx will sit - they'll probably be in the 300+ market

the only real competitors at the moment in 200 range are 470, 6870 and almost (230 new now) the 5870

what else is coming on the market that will make those in the 200 range drop substantially in price I can't see anything on immediate horizon ?

unless you think the 6870 is going to drop substantially in price ? I can't see it happening

I'd go for it now, or wait 8 months or so :) - also one other factor in buying now is that the 4890s still have some element of value 2nd hand at the moment

that will diminish further as time goes along

a) More choice. Not valid in this topic

b) Possibility of higher level cards price war, which might bring them within reach The 470 has already droped the GTX580 is not even aimed at that user base there fore price drops are more then prob be nothing

c) You may be able to pay a little more and get a much better card

Just get the new Gig 470 OC and ram it up to 900mhz for £240 and be done with it.

6950 might be at the ~£250 price range - which isn't that far out for the OP. To be honest, I don't know, but I reckon it's worth waiting till the 69xx are out - if a card was £50 more and 50% better than a GTX470 {EXAMPLE!}, it's probably worth spending the extra on. It's not like the OP's 4890 is dead, or completely useless at games right now, so 3 weeks more can't hurt surely?
