The Nokia N80

im hopefully getting one of these in july as im on orange premier 900 and apparently you can upgrade after 9 months...

anyway read a lot of mixed opinions about these phones, would the majority of you recommend getting one? plus by july hopefuly the memory bugs will be sorted

plus i should get one free considering i spend at least £100 a month soon to be £130 as im also taking out a second line

i've been quite impressed with mine so far, once i've finished my uni project i'll try and write up some impressions of it.

I quite like it, but i can see myself upgrading to the SE p990i when it arrives. There are a few niggly things the n80 that let it down, and i really miss the touch screen of my old p910i.

The memory bugs will always be there as nokia only bundled 40mb of internal ram, perhaps later firmware updates will make better use of that 40mb of ram but i cant see how etc. Its like how Dolph mentioned before...that its like running winxp on 32mb of ram..it will work but god is it ever so slow lol.

Its a nice phone mind you, i had one but had too many niggles with it...plus i didnt find it the easiest phone to get on with. Also its bulky but if you can live with the niggles it has then its a good phone with some excellent features. Personally i sent mine back after a day of using it, couldnt get used to it...so am now waiting for the p990i which will hopefully be a much better phone.

I just called 02 Upgrade line and the latest news is that the N80 will be released on the 15th June, not the 5th!!!
(apparently Nokia has put it back...hmm...maybe they are upgrading the firmware to 0.6 for all of them now before release...or maybe its just O2 being lying gits again)

Got mine on o2 yesterday from OSPS, latest firmware on it too :). Seems fast, no memory problems. Liking it a lot!!

I used to have a MDA compact so no worries with the size! Slide seems goot too me, no problem with the quality.

Yeah I like it. Does anyone know when a compatible version of Tom Tom is coming out for the N80?

Got mine from o2 and am NOT impressed ! Good god how thick is this phone  Flimsy build quality imo , battery cover is terrible and slide action doesn't fill me with any confidence for the long term. The GUI is slow, battery life is a joke , my memory stick comes up up with errors and its difficult to find anything without spending hours pouring over the manual.

What a heap of junk ! Its going back NOW and i'm waiting for the P990i :(

Whats wrong with the Battery cover? Mine seems to be a nice tight fit, my slide action seems really good too. I've not had any speed problems or memory card problems, but I haven't really used this as I have a 2Gb card on the way. I see what you mean about it's thickness, but it's the same thickness as my mda compact when thats in its case.

I agree about need to use the Manual, but isn't that alwasy the case with a new phone?

It seems to me like there is either a lot of n80 lemons out there or the firmware update works wonders!

The only thing I miss from my mda compact is the 3 alarms which I could set for any day or every day.

Go easy on the rolleyes there fella, hes only giving his opinion of which hes entitled to ;). For the record i hated the n80 myself, excellent features but my god what terrible implementation of them. Not only that its one hell of a niggly phone..forget about the software bugs..the phone itself was hard to understand even for a techno geek like me:p. Also terrible battery life as well, why cant nokia make phones like SE do...excellent battery times.

The n80 has more or less put me off buying another nokia for life, they really havent got a clue on how to implement all those great features in any of their phones...even my 6680 was slow and cumbersome...much like the n80 i had. Thank god i did the right thing and sent mine back for a refund :p

Pretty much what I thought of it. Nokia would do well to learn from the Koreans how to make a decent slide mechanism, and its a shame that they have to ruin what would otherwise be quite a nice device by saving money using cheap poor quality and ill fitting plastics.
As for S60 itself, well I quite liked it (if it wasn't for the fact that once again Nokia appear to have cut corners and under spec'ed on memory), but it just didn't give me a nice warm fuzzy feeling like UIQ on my old P910i used to. ;)
In its favour though the new Safari based browser (when it worked) was a bit of a revelation though.

I would like to make a request

Anyone with the N80 can you please upload some macro mode shots of anything? can be anything you want I just want to see what the picture quality is like

Not sure if I can be arsed to wait for the N80 on o2 now.... :(

a) too hit and miss as to how good/bad it is
b) it's already 2months old on other networks
c) I might as well wait for the "next big thing"

Anyone else in the same boat?

as requested a macro shot from the n80 held perfectly still and at exactly 15cm away, not to impressive tbh :(
