The Nokia N80

WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?? Just reading through some of your posts i cant help thinking that i've somehow stumbled across an idiots convention...

Get your facts straight before you start ranting. If any of you so called 'geeks' actually knew what you were talking about then you wouldnt be saying 90% of the rubbish that you are spouting.

Own one for 2 months and then comment. I cannot do justice to this marvelous handset with words alone. The n80 is a truly inspirational piece of hardware- the marriage between aesthetic grace and sheer unlimited functionality is something I never thought possible. This handset has been thwarted by what i can only describe as sick propaganda by the se crowd.

please please... get a life.

That's amazing.
You never gave a single reason about anything.
Unlimited functionality eh? Does it make gingerbread?

On topic:
I'm kinda glad to hear the phone is poor :p . I waited 4 months and then gave up and got a w900i and really like it :)

I would hardly say it's poor, ok so the old firmware had a few issues but after a firmware flash the phones working great.

Personally I would not get that excited over the w900i and it's nothing like as good as the N80 in comparison.

You can get for 49.99 from orange.co.uk on £30 a month plan you get 650 mins to any net any time + 1000 texts + free broadband (yes only 2 gig but can choose unlimited for a £10 charge)

Anyways reason for me been in here!

Wifi!! Ive gone through the settings and i can get the N80 talking to my wifi router but only when the router is in discoverable mode.
What do you need to do get it to always talk even when its not in discovery mode?

Hi, is this offer still on, and if so do you know which 'animal' tariff bundle it is. Thanks.

I am about to receive my new N80 from orange sometime today and i have a question. Is it possible to Flash the firmware back to nokia instead of all the orange? i have heard that i can be quite slow

It's one of the 18 month web direct tarriffs.

300 mins/100 texts for £30 a month.

Then choose the 50% extra free minutes for taking a 3g handset.

Current offer gives you another 200 extra crossnet minutes for life and 1000 texts.

takes you to 650 minutes and 1100 texts for £30 a month :)

i got quite a good deal from orange. It all totals up to £35 a month this includes Insurance, 500Mins cross Network/Any time, 1100 texts and i got the N80 for £50.

That was an 18 Month deal

To be honest after having my N80 for a few weeks now I realy am starting to hate it, its a tad slow the battery is shockingly bad and until tom tom comes out for it Iam struggling to find a reason to keep it.

That and the fact I just got lg kg800 through the door for my other contract makes this one seem a bit big and usesless.

I also get a realy rubbish signal on it from o2 and the 3g keeps going off

just my 2p after a month of normal use.

I agree with you DAvE18, I'm very disappointed with the battery life and the general lag when opening applications/messages and the like. My brother, also on O2 with a nokia 3220 has such better signal strength it's hard to understand how they can both be on the same network in the same place, I’ve been out where I have no singal and he has nearly full.

Apart from the "features" mentioned above I do like the look and feel of the phone, the menu system is easy to use and well laid out and the best function for me has to be the web browser which I find very easy to use. It’s a well built phone that has already withstood being dropped once or twice, the camera is fairly good (for a mobile phone camera) and I like the memory capability with a SD card.

The phone was an “upgrade” from a I-Mate Jam, I must say it’s a hard choice if I was to pick between the two. Knowing what I know now I wouldn’t have upgraded as the advantages over the I-Mate just didn’t justify it, I also miss the touch screen from the I-Mate a lot!

Thanks for that. Obviously this offer is available instore...would you know if I could get the following instore?

500 mins/100 texts for £40 a month

+ 250 mins for 3g = 750 mins

950 mins + 1100 texts for £40/month - I get 15% off this price :) - but only instore

Web direct offers aren't available instore, it has to be done online or via direct sales.

The store packages are the standard animal tarriffs, plus whatever the current promotions are *if* they are compatible with the discount plan you are entitled to.

I dont think my deal was too bad. . .

Business 450min cross Network/Any time + £30 bundle = 250 text or 90 photo messages or 12mb web surfing. It's up to you how you spend your bundle.
PLUS! my N80 is BLACK (I dont like the silver version) and SIM FREE and cost me nothing! :D :D :D
This is on Vodafone on a 2 year contract, although I can upgrade my phone after 12 months. The thing I like with Vodafone is the 'stop the clock' feature they do so 450 min lasts for ages as you only pay for the first 3 min and talk for up to an hour!

All for £43.50 (inc. itemised billing + vat) which is not that bad I think.

I have to say that my phone does not seem that slow, maybe it's because I have a generic (sim free) version? Might help also that im running the latest firmware.

Does anyone know if you will be able to upgrade your N80 to Symbian 9.2 when it comes out?

What's the chance of me getting an N80 as an upgrade, for free, on O2? Monthly spend is between £40 and £45.

Well, I upgraded to an N80 with Vodafone on a £45 per month contract and they were originally asking me for £150 (and going to put me on an 18-month plan) until I said I was leaving and going on the exact same deal with Orange (for 12 months) as they were offering the phone for £50. They soon matched it so at a guess I'd say you're looking at £50 for the handset.

Aye, I'd had a look at Orange's deals today (thinking of moving to them anyway) so we'll try that line. Cheers.

You can get it upgraded for free at a nokia service point.
check here to find one
http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,94212,00.html

you can also try to upgrade the firmware yourself, but to be honest i wouldn;t bother. It's a major pain in the proverbial, to install the software, and after all that it still might not work. I spent more time trying to upgrade it myself, that it took me to go to town and wait an hour for the service centre to do it for me.

also i have heard that there is another firmware about to appear, so maybe hold off a week or two.

Mate got one on orange he had it for a day before it went back, the phone itself ie build quality/looks/os seemed fine and dandy but the camera quality was shocking. SE K750 is equal if not better than it.

Was choosing between this and an spv m600 on orange upgrade, think i will wait now and check out the sek800

My sister's n80's just been delivered and is now charging. I have to say it looks a lot better in black than in silver - and smaller.

ok thanks for the replies, the p990i should be out by july correct?

p990i's now been put back to September - I was waiting for it myself, but have got fed up with waiting and waiting and waiting - this last delay was the final straw so I've ordered a k800i instead.
