The Nokia N80

p990i's now been put back to September - I was waiting for it myself, but have got fed up with waiting and waiting and waiting - this last delay was the final straw so I've ordered a k800i instead.

Where did you get September from? AFAIK units will begin to be available in July and early August at the latest (this is for SIM free of course).

Got an N80 as an upgrade from O2 just now. It's charging at the moment so I'll post my impressions later.

My first impression, though, was "OMG, THEY'VE CHANGED THE CHARGER".

That's one thing that worries me a bit that the plug you stick in the N80 is really thin, just hope it dont break. I would have thought they would have made it more reinforced.

Have to say I think the battery sucks with these phones, I have to charge my N80 everyday. I just hope that you can buy better replacement batteries in the future. . .

I think you have a faulty battery or you didnt charge it up right like how you were supposed to according to noika and co. Iv had mine for 2 days now, charged it up, spent about 30 mins talking on it, sent about 5 texts, played about with it a lot (new phone excitement!) and iv only lost 1 bar of battery.

been using my n80 for about a month now, and its generally quite good, but i find the os a bit slow.

my biggest worry is build quality, it just doesn't feel that solid to me compared to my old p910i which felt bullet proof, unfortunately my fears came true as my n80 speak no longer works, so i can't make or receive calls as i can no longer hear the caller at the other end. Time to go and see what cpw can do to fix it.

Ok, two initial impressions...

It has more options than a new Rolls Royce, I'll be here all night configuring it.

The ring tones are terrible and I can't transfer 'Ring ring' off my old 6230i, does anyone have 'ring ring'? :(

Oh, also, how do I switch it between online and offline modes? Oh, found it...

got told this from carphone warehouse and e2save (which is owned by carphone warehouse) - got told it was the case for all networks.

Something else I can't figure out; how can I add more shortcuts to the 'Go to' menu? There's a section in the handbook on it, but it doesn't give you any information other than how to access the 'Go to' list

I'd take their info with a pinch of salt to be honest, although in this case they may end up being right for some of the network branded versions, although its more by fluke than them really knowing whats going on.
AFAIK Voda's systems are currently saying sometime in August, and I think the latest is that SIM free stock may begin to trickle through during July with full availability in August.

Thought you might have heard something from a well placed contact or SE themselves which is why I asked thats all.

get mine tomorrow.

6 months insurance, 600 minutes, 400 texts, Unlimited Internet, 5 quid downloads free, 60 Video Messages, Handset normally costs 50 they give it me for free..... 30 quid a month it is on 3, but its a very good deal, i sat there for a good hour explaining that i wasnt keen on the idea of 3, and made sure there was no hidden foolery.

Is the S60 software still slow as a dog?
My old 7610 was pretty slow for me. And someone i know has a N70 that doesnt seem much better.
Thats what puts me off the Nokia S60 phones, compared to my W800, the interface, while it does more, is mega slow.

I didn't think it was too bad initally, and thought i could put up with it, but the n80 is in general giving me no end of problems now:

It crashes far too often especially when creating texts/mms and you receive another text/mms/call.

Doesn't pick up when people in my contacts are calling, which is very iritating if i'm screening my calls.

Web browser is a great piece of software, but is unusable due to crashing as it runs out of memory so often unless you turn off loading of images. I can put up with this as i normally have loading images off anyway to save on gprs/3g charges, but makes wifi pointless on the phone imo.

Poor build quality, one 2 foot drop onto carpet and the earspeaker is broken on mine, not good enough imo.

I'll be switching back to a SE phone asap.

BUSH id say you have a dodgy phone there mate, number one,

yes crashes do happen but not much at all!

mine picks up all the time when being called, it never crashed when writing txts etc, go in and explain and ask for a replacement and try that.

Does anyone know how to do this? :)

I found that, but it's for a significanlty older phone. I was hoping Nokia had/Symbian had sorted it out by now...
