Did you guys find the service in Portugal pretty terrible 99% of the time? I think in a week we walked out of 2-3 places (lunch, when it wasn't so hard to find alternatives admittedly) bceause they were sooooo slow. They'd seat you and not come back for 15mins. Especially at lunchtime when you're gasping for that first holiday-lunch-beer.. it did my head in! And these weren't terrible touristy places, we walked out of the most recommended place in LX Factory (hipster central) for example. There were other examples but I've forgotten -- but yeah the service even in the good places was generally terrible
EDIT: I remember turning up for an aperitif 15mins before our table at a restaurant/bar. We got sent to the outside bar and had about 10mins before our booking, told the barman that, he was like "ah it's ok no worries" so we ordered and waited. And waited... and waited whilst he went over to the group of 8 (!!) that followed us in and proceeded to spend 10mins talking to them and (badly) taking their order.. all before he even went to make our drinks.
