Hey everyone

I like some of the other lucky people got one of the 02 friends and family connections last year and i seem to remember reading somewhere when I signed up that it only lasts 12 months? Can anyone confirm this?

The other thing is I have noticed if you log on online now you can switch to one of the new packages and from what i can see you continue paying £7.50 a month? has anybody tried this? It also lists the o2 wireless box 3 for the pro connection? Would I receive one of these if I switched to that package online?

As anyone else who set this up will know it takes ages to get through to someone at 02 who will deal with staff broadband connections so I am a bit sceptical about altering anything to do with it!

The quidco offer also seems attractive as does the 3 months free if the offer does only last 12 months.

So what is everyone else doing with theres?

Subject to availability, BT line, direct debit & 12 month min term contract.
That's the wording from the email with details of the Friends and Family signup. Means the contract term is a minimum of 12 months, it doesn't mean the discount expires after 12 months.

No idea about switching packages, I'd phone up first to make sure they preseve the discount. You should be on the best package for your line anyway and a wireless N version of the O2 box isn't worth switching for.

I signed up to this over a year ago. I switched to the O2 Pro Package online after seeing the same price (about 10 months in) and am still charged £7.50 a month. This also extends (from point of upgrade) your contract for another 12 months. I didn't automatically receive the Wireless Box III. I simply phoned up and told them I was eligible and if they could replace my existing one, and they obliged.

Even if you do not change package resulting in a contract extension, I believe you would still be only charged £7.50 a month.

cheers for that mate, i might as well have a go at changing as well then! what is the n router like ?

Yeh router is fine and runs cooler (its a lot bigger than Box II). The Wireless-N aspect doesn't seem to work too well. With my n adpator I don't connect at above 54mb for any sustained period of time. Range doesn't seem to be much better.

Also when you switch, you will be taken onto Annex M rather than Annex G. You sacrifice a tiny bit of download speed to get a higher upload speed by switching to it.

I went from 14mb up and 1.3mb down to 13mb down to 1.6mb up. When I asked for the Wireless Box III, I requested to be switched to Annex G again and they did it straight away.

It's Annex A, not G. They used to wait some time before switching you to Annex M though, for exactly the reason you saw - beyond a certain point it's a waste of time even trying.

ah so that explains why it shows my current package as been 20mb download and 1.6mb upload but the pro package as been up to 2.5mb upload.

I would prefer a slightly higher upload as the download is so fast it would really make no difference if i lost a bit! could i not ask to be put on annex M with my current package ?

Ah, sorry. Its the G.992.5 for both Annexes which must have come to mind. I knew there was a G somewhere lol.

OP would have looked pretty stupid if he asked to get switched to Annex G. :D
