Yep that setting allows you to trick the PSP into thinking there's a disk in the UMD drive as far as I know (otherwise the psp checks the drive and gets confused). You need it set to either the M33 or Sony setting.

I've got mine set to the M33 one, but I don't think there's much difference to be honest. The Video one I presume is the same, but for Video UMDs, I've not used any. so I can't confirm this completely.

As for overclocking the PSP. I don't, I know many people that have without issue.

My thinking is, why overclock when all the games will run fine anyway? Personal preference again.

Overclocking the PSP? Thats new to me. Metal Slug does suffer quite a lot though I've noticed.

I have no idea whether or not 4.01 has any extra features, but I just keep up to date just in case.

All the Sony 4.01 features + bug fixes and compatibility updates. (Some newer UMD title's didn't run properly from the memory stick, which has been fixed).

Yes, you have to run it using an older version of the PS1 emulator (and maybe change the game ID to the Japanese versions ID when you make the game file, I can't remember off hand).

You switch between versions of the emulator by installing popsloader, I think RE2 works best with version 2.40.

just got my CF PSP setup to display image on PC screen and play using PS3 controller, saves the hand cramps using the PSP controls

couple of screenshots

all woking on vista, didn't even know that the ps3 controller woked on vista, but now it does

^^ Don't mean to be rude, but why bother flashing your psp if you're going to play the games on your pc with a PS3 pad? lol. Kinda defeats the point.

btw, I could never get my sixaxis to work on vista.

EDIT: Dreamcast has be emulated on the PSP now, just not at a good speed. Its at 10% speed, which makes games look like a slide show. They're working on it though! Shenmue portable ***!
