Now, obviously companies like Atari created the worlds real first console for example, so technically they have started it all... and then of course there is Mr pong himself, but apart from these people, who really would you say made the games industry what it is today:

Question 1:

Most Innovative Games Company (feel free to chose 5, but give reasons and in order!)

QUestion 2:

Who has done most for the console Industry (pick 3 if you MUST, as there has been lots of console makers)

Question 3:

Which games creators/designers do you feel have done the most (an example being John Carmack) (pick 5, in order)

Question 4:

Most influential "home computer". Obviously apart from the PC or the Mac, I am talking the Commodore 64, Spectrums, Acorns and so on. (please pick 3, any time periods you want).

Question 5:

Most memorable moment in YOUR gaming history. (this is, what moment did you either play a game, and then you was like WOW. this is OMG amazing) please chose 5! (PC or console)

Question 6:

What is the most amazing things you have seen in the industry. Name anything here, either PC OR console. So if you want to say when you saw a Voodoo 1, feel free, if you want to say when you saw Mario 64, feel free. list 5 please.

Question 7:

Which console creator (either from Atari to MS here) do you feel you are a fan of most. You can name 2 if one you mention is not longer creating consoles (so feel free to say Sega and Nintendo for example). Please do not turn this in to a fanboy discussion. This is not about graphics, not a thread on FPS, or anything else. Dont judge others oppions on whyTHEY like a console creator.

Question 8:

Your biggest disappointments. This is either games, consoles, or technology. Since its such a broad question, feel free to answer 12 or so things.

Question 9:

Optional Question: Name any amazing experiences that first got you in to video games, what started the magic with you!

Question 10:

Optional again: How long have you been gaming, and feel free to mention the consoles you have owned.

Question 11: last one! once again optional. the hardest question here too! your top 5 video games EVER. (once again, any console, including a PC or mac)

As I mentioned earlier, this is mostly console discussion, BUT if you feel someone who worked on PC games has done the most. feel very much free to mention them here. As mentioned, dont hammer on other peoples oppions, this is about PERSONAL experiences and what you believe. Nothing said in this thread on which is best will probablly be true. I just want to see who people give most credit to.

Cant be bothered answering all that but who did the most for the games industry? Atari and Sony, Atari pretty much invented it and Sony changed it from 'something kids do' to 'something everyone and his dog does'.

god this looks like a damn questionnaire/job application.

cant be bothered to answer them al, just will say its prolly id software for revolutionising the fps genre time and time again and being at the cutting edge of 3d engine design

I'd say Clive Sinclair is an unsung hero. He was, in part, responsible for the home computer revolution and gaming played a massive part of this.

ps - are we doing your homework for you? :D

Question 1:

I know it's what everyone is going to say, but it's got to be Nintendo. Very few companies are in the position to innovate like they do and make it successful.

QUestion 2:

I'm going to go with Sony here. They brought consoles to the masses. Nintendo and Sega are important too because they did the ground work, but Sony made it mainstream.

Question 3:

Shigeru Miyamoto - he's behind most of Nintendo's successful franchises
John Carmack - Not much of a creative type, but his engines have paved the way for FPS games

I can think of a few more noteable ones, but not many that have made a huge impact on the industry.

Question 4:

A bit before my time but I'll go with Spectrum ZX, Commadore 64 and Amiga 500. They seem to be the ones most people talk about.

Question 5:

Don't know. Most of my gaming is memorable in some way.

Question 6:

Dunno. The whole thing has been a gradual progression. There's not much that's a huge amazing new thing.

Question 7:

I'm a fan of games, not machines. If I had to pick one I'd say Nintendo even though I only briefly had an N64 (sold it to get a playstation) and never had a GC. They are the only ones that really try to innovate with the hardware, even though most of the games available on their consoles don't interest me.

Can't be bothered to answer more.

1.Most Innovative Games Company (feel free to chose 5, but give reasons and in order!)

Nintendo.

Whilst they've built strong franchises they have never stopped innovating, just when you though Shigsy was out of ideas, Pikmin and Nintendogs arrived.

Who has done most for the console Industry (pick 3 if you MUST, as there has been lots of console makers)

Atari - RIP

Sony 1995-2001 - Made games consoles consumer electronics products as opposed to geeky toys, bought consumer hardware values to a software oriented business.

Microsoft 2001 - NOW - Standardized online infrastructure for gaming, brought the concepts of unified online, downloadable content etc. to consoles. Drove hardware innovatiion with Hard Drives, Ethernet Usb etc as standard. Developed integrated full blown gaming OS's.

Forced competitors to follow suit.

Which games creators/designers do you feel have done the most (an example being John Carmack) (pick 5, in order)

Done the most NOT necessarily the best.

1.Shigeru Miyamoto....should I really have to give a reason?

2.John Carmack - Coder extrodinaire, and always pushes the technological envelope, oh and Doom anyone?

3.Toby Gard - Mr Tomb Raider, honestly who doesn't know tomb raider.

4.Hironobu Sakaguchi - Pretty much created the JRPG genre.

5.Alexey Pajitnov - Tetris, probably the most instantly accesable video game ever.

Most influential "home computer". Obviously apart from the PC or the Mac, I am talking the Commodore 64, Spectrums, Acorns and so on. (please pick 3, any time periods you want)

Playstation

Most memorable moment in YOUR gaming history. (this is, what moment did you either play a game, and then you was like WOW. this is OMG amazing) please chose 5! (PC or console)

1.Halo - Final Run
2.Metal Gear Solid - Sniper Wolf Death Scene
3.Halo - Assault on the Control
4.Metal Gear Solid - Ending
5.Shenmue - 70 Man Fight

What is the most amazing things you have seen in the industry. Name anything here, either PC OR console. So if you want to say when you saw a Voodoo 1, feel free, if you want to say when you saw Mario 64, feel free. list 5 please.

Bit of a vague question really

1.The audience at video games live and realising how wide spread gaming has really got.

2.The madness surrounding Halo 2, and the cultural phenomenon that thing has become

3.Shenmue - My god the production values

4.Metal Gear Solid cut scenes, made me buy a playstation.

5.Playstation - changed our industry

Microsoft

Question 8:

Your biggest disappointments. This is either games, consoles, or technology. Since its such a broad question, feel free to answer 12 or so things.

How Sony killed Sega based on nothing but hype alone, it dissapointed and saddened me deeply as a gamer.

Question 9:

Optional Question: Name any amazing experiences that first got you in to video games, what started the magic with you!

Went to the US and played nintendo for the first time, Mario and Duck Hunt.

Question 10:

Optional again: How long have you been gaming, and feel free to mention the consoles you have owned.

16 years.

NES x2
Atari 2600
Commodore 64
SNES x2
Megadrive
Mega CD
Nintendo 64
Gameboy
Gameboy Pocket
Gameboy Advanced
Atari Lynx

PSP
PS1
PS2 x2
Gamecube (jap)
Gamecube (us)
Gamecube (PAL) x2

Question 11: last one! once again optional. the hardest question here too! your top 5 video games EVER. (once again, any console, including a PC or mac)

1.Halo
2.Metal Gear Solid
3.Zelda Ocarina of Time
4.Shenmue
5.Final Fantasy 8

Probably, too be honest only the top 2 never change.

Anyway hope thats good enough to spark some discussion

Question 1:

I really love what Rockstar do with the GTA series. There are a lot of other game companies out there who, if they had as big a hit as GTAIII, would have just sat back and made re-hashes of the same game without much extra content knowing they would sell. Whereas with each release Rockstar bring out they add more content than you would have thought possible.

QUestion 2:

I really agree with castor, Atari started the whole ball rolling but then after consoles revival from Sega and Nintendo it became a bit stale and was generally considered for kids, plus the games were all cartidge based and bloody expensive. Sony came along and changed all of that.

Question 3:

Can't say that I have ever really looked into who makes the games I play.!!! Although I always thought that Jeff Minter from Llamasoft had a cool beard.

Question 4:

Hmmm... For me I would say the C64, it was the first home computer I had and I was sooo into it that I used to get Input magazine every week to learn to program on it. Plus I will never forget the day we got it and stuck the Daily Thompsons Decathalon tape in and we all sat back in awe as it slowly drew the load image of him on the screen. :) happy days!

Question 5:

The music on Paradroid on the C64 had me blown away (it was nearly as good as the guitar solo on Monty Mole).
Half-life blew me away, from the moment I was in the monorail thing at the start while the credits came up I loved the game.
GTA Vice City, I remember having the day off work to play that one on release day (will probably do the same on release day of GTA IV too). I jumped on a chopper and headed down the beachfront with the wind in my hair and Atomic by blondie playing on the radio, and it was one of the most sublime moments in any game for me.

Other great moments include:
Playing Elite on my Acorn Electron for the first time & Playing Mercenary on my C64 for the first time.
Completing Populous the begining on my PC for the first time.

Question 6:

What is the most amazing things you have seen in the industry. Name anything here, either PC OR console. So if you want to say when you saw a Voodoo 1, feel free, if you want to say when you saw Mario 64, feel free. list 5 please.

Question 7:

Sony has to be my favourite console creator.
I remember that I always loved video games. With home computers like the C64, Speccy, Amiga and Atari ST, anyone could have a go at writing games for them and you got some truly great games coming out. Companies like mastertronic were started by kids writing games in their bedrooms and there dad setting up a distribution network around newagents and selling games for £2.99. They are still around today beleive it or not but they are known as Codemasters. then the shift went from Home Computers over to consoles and prices from both Sega and Nintendo started rising to crazy levels like £60 each (thats equivalent to over £100 per game in todays money), with a definate bad smell of price fixing in the air. Plus to top it off, both would only licence a certain number of software developers to create games for their consoles and you never got any cross platform games.
Sony came along with the Playstation and made gaming cool again, plus they made it cheaper too by using CD rather than sticking to cart. But more than that it was the creation of the net yaroze that really gave me a glimpse of a company trying to recapture that golden age of bedroom game development.

Question 8:

The Playstation 2's online gaming system (or lack of it), I bought several titles which I was looking forward to playing online but whenever I logged on and looked for someone it was like a deserted ghost town out of a poor western... I'm sure I even heard bells ringing and saw tumbleweeds blow by! That was such a huge dissapointment because I went out and bought a Slimline PS2 especially for netplay.!!!

Question 9:

Daily Thompson load screen as mentioned in my answer to question 4.

Question 10:

Since I was eight, so thats 1980 (26 years). Some Binatone Sports thing, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, Acorn Electron, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive, SNES, Commodore Amiga 500, Atari Lynx, Commodore Amiga 500 (again!), Playstation, Playstation 2, Slimline Playstation 2 - Currently Playstation 3 (jap import) and PSP. I also picked up a CBS Coleco-vision somewhere along the way, think I still have it in my attick.
My First PC was a 486 DX 66 with 2MB RAM, I opened it up and upgraded it to 4MB RAM myslef and from then on I was hooked and have always had a PC, way too many to mention on here. Present one in sig.

Most Innovative Games Company (feel free to chose 5, but give reasons and in order!): Rare for constant refreshing originality, and not scared to release a game that is DIFFERENT once in a while.

Nintendo, for originality and innovation in consoles - cue the DS and Wii.

QUestion 2:

Who has done most for the console Industry (pick 3 if you MUST, as there has been lots of console makers) Atari, they more or less invented it. And kept it going until it was popular.

Again nintendo, for constantly bringing a breath of fresh air into the console market

Question 4:

Most influential "home computer". Obviously apart from the PC or the Mac, I am talking the Commodore 64, Spectrums, Acorns and so on. (please pick 3, any time periods you want). Amiga and Atari ST. Because on both of them are the sorts of features we find on modern computers. I even remember word processors and the like on one or the other. (Can't remember which as I had both at the same time, and lost both together as well)

Question 5:

Most memorable moment in YOUR gaming history. (this is, what moment did you either play a game, and then you was like WOW. this is OMG amazing) please chose 5! (PC or console)
Atari ST: Game called Cops n Robbers. My first REAL gaming exoerience. Even to this day one of the best games I have ever played. Multiplayer goodness :)
A couple of years ago I discovered CSS. I didn't look back from it for a long time, and even now I play it.
My first MMO in Everquest. I hated it. But couldn't stop playing it!
Completing Toejam and Earl on the Megadrive, before jumping up in glee, landing on my megadrive and breaking it!

Question 6:

What is the most amazing things you have seen in the industry. Name anything here, either PC OR console. So if you want to say when you saw a Voodoo 1, feel free, if you want to say when you saw Mario 64, feel free. list 5 please.

Question 7:

You can name 2 if one you mention is not longer creating consoles (so feel free to say Sega and Nintendo for example). Please do not turn this in to a fanboy discussion. This is not about graphics, not a thread on FPS, or anything else. Dont judge others oppions on whyTHEY like a console creator.
Nintendo - They are always fun. I have had fun on every single nintendo console I've played on

Microsoft - I used to be an anti M$ sony fanboy. But having owned a 360, I can honestly say MS have got online gaming down to exactly what it should be. Their online system is perfect.

Question 8:

Your biggest disappointments. This is either games, consoles, or technology. Since its such a broad question, feel free to answer 12 or so things.
Quake 4. It sucked.

Question 9:

Optional Question: Name any amazing experiences that first got you in to video games, what started the magic with you!
Like I said above, Cops n Robbers on the Atari ST!

Question 10:

Optional again: How long have you been gaming, and feel free to mention the consoles you have owned.
For about 12 years (since I was 6), and have been in possession of:
Amiga, Atari ST, PC, Playstation, Sega Megadrive, PS2, 360, Wii, DS, Gameboy original, Gameboy colour.

Question 11: last one! once again optional. the hardest question here too! your top 5 video games EVER. (once again, any console, including a PC or mac)
Cops n Robbers - Atari ST
Advance Wars DS - DS
World of Warcraft - PC
Guitar Hero - PS2
Galaxian - Played on PC
