*** The official 2018 MacBook Pro thread (it has six cores and everything!) ***

Will be interested in finding out more about this new Air. If it's got a retina display, kept the same keyboard, has an up to date i5 with 8gb RAM, and is around £1k, it sounds like a good deal. Can't see how they can do that and keep the 12 inch Macbook viable though.

Yes it just needs to be basically a non touch bar pro but in a slightly smaller form factor with a 2018 processor, job done.

MB 12” is way smaller than the air and pro. In reality the MacBook should be cheaper than the Air, back when it was introduced there was nothing on the market like it but now you can get similar devices for less than £1k. £1500 for the high end MacBook is silly money.

I was referring to being a slightly smaller form factor to the 13” pro (a bit like the current air but without the huge silly bezels). I also meant a 2018 equivalent processor to what’s in the air, a duel core that is more powerful than the MacBook but falls short of the pro.

Been back and forth and end up ordering 13" instead.

With the money saved I can order a 10bit monitor for home with a eGPU.

I just got the 15" 2018 2.6GHz 512Gb version after upgrading from a dual core 13" 2017. Very impressed with the speed increase. Feels like a beast especially on a 4K external monitor.

What accessories are you going for? especially any hub?

I just use it with an LG 27" 4K monitor via USB-C (soon to be upgraded to 32") I have a USB dongle and that's about it. Don't really need anything else.

Must admit the power of this thing for a laptop is amazing.

Is it your desktop replacement?

Mine is for use on the go, so will need a hub of sorts. Thinking of the Satechi power bank/hub.

I struggle with getting beteeen either and in the end opted for the 13” and saved £600 and thought if I need the GPU I’ll just get the eGPU.

Yes it's the only computer I have. I do use it on the go all the time but connect it to my monitor when in my home office, I run my business on it.

Those docks...doesn’t closing the lid put the computer to sleep? What is that dock call?

It's just a stand from Twelve South https://www.twelvesouth.com/product/bookarc-for-macbook

No the Mac stays awake on power. The USB-C cable charges the Mac and sends 4K video plus sound to the monitor. Its a really neat solution.

The space grey Apple keyboard and mouse just works when I am using the monitor. My Apple Watch unlocks the Mac so no need to put a password in.

Love this way of working as I alway have everything with me, desktop power when I want it and a laptop.
