Why? You could pump out near GTX 580 performance by just some overclocking. That'll save you a lot of money.
Because you could buy a 570 for cheaper

Can't see the point of single 6950 at the moment either, more money for the same performance and feature set compared to a 5870?

Low power draw output. Lots of new features.
These cards aren't about massive performance gains but its amazing card when you look at Eyefinity etc... and how it can cope with certain tasks.

Sorry if i seemed blunt before, I'm on morphine in hospital at the mo lol, my reasoning was they use high resolutions where the top cards are expected to be run, why would I buy a 580 for my puny resolution except for epeen? I'm sure the 580/570 is quicker at low resolutions but that's what mid range cards are for aren't they?

But you are forgetting that the 6950 would be more overclockable than the 5870, 3D support, improved AF (or so they claim), better crossfire scaling, and 2GB of ram (would be great for crossfiring for people that game at 2560 res).Err if you say so mate, I'm seeing £190 for 5870 and £220 for 6950, same performance, same DX 11 feature set.
I'm sure most people will run 580/6970 at 1920x1200/1080, sure bench at 2560x1600 but for that to be your only res at best seems an omission to me.

But I do agree £220 would too high priced (as it would make people consider paying a bit more for a GTX 570)...it needs to get as low as at least £200~£210.
More overclockable is debatable as well.
Oh well I'm not to fussed then since I will be gaming at 2560x1440 and I want to run 4 screens so its the 6970 for me![]()

Yea...don't think a single 6970 would have enough grunt for gaming on four 2560x1400 screen...except may be source games and DIRT2 kind of gamesSounds like you need the 6990![]()

U need a £800 pound monitor to run that res?
U could count on ur fingers the number of ppl that have that screen.
1080p is where its at.

Is 6970 the next r300?
6970 should have been 1920SD....
