*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

Can't see the point of single 6950 at the moment either, more money for the same performance and feature set compared to a 5870?

Low power draw output. Lots of new features.

These cards aren't about massive performance gains but its amazing card when you look at Eyefinity etc... and how it can cope with certain tasks.

Err if you say so mate, I'm seeing £190 for 5870 and £220 for 6950, same performance, same DX 11 feature set.

Sorry if i seemed blunt before, I'm on morphine in hospital at the mo lol, my reasoning was they use high resolutions where the top cards are expected to be run, why would I buy a 580 for my puny resolution except for epeen? I'm sure the 580/570 is quicker at low resolutions but that's what mid range cards are for aren't they?

I'm sure most people will run 580/6970 at 1920x1200/1080, sure bench at 2560x1600 but for that to be your only res at best seems an omission to me.

U need a £800 pound monitor to run that res?
U could count on ur fingers the number of ppl that have that screen.

1080p is where its at.

But you are forgetting that the 6950 would be more overclockable than the 5870, 3D support, improved AF (or so they claim), better crossfire scaling, and 2GB of ram (would be great for crossfiring for people that game at 2560 res).

But I do agree £220 would too high priced (as it would make people consider paying a bit more for a GTX 570)...it needs to get as low as at least £200~£210.

Fair point, I may have jumped the gun a bit there, just assumed most of the peole buying the top cards had top end monitors.
I still think for the money tho it looks like a good card, I won't be getting one but I sure it will have good oc headroom once voltage controls are added, gibbos overclocking looks quite promising :)

I'm not mate, all those features, bar the 2GB, are irrelevant to me :) More overclockable is debatable as well.

On balance I guess I would spend the extra £30 to get improved tessellation, 2GB and better power draw/mangement

I game @ 2560x1440 (BC2 mainly)

Current setup up is:-

Asus p5q deluxe
Q6600 @ 3.6 (can get 3.8 win fans on max)
Corsair 520HX
4 gig ram
6870

Is the single 6970 a worthy upgrade for me? is my PSU ok for the 6970? or should I save up some more for a new PSU and another 6870?

Ta :)

I do find the comments on HardOCP's review in this thread funny.... It's almost as if people don't understand how they review....

2560x1600 performance bodes well for Eyefinity. CF scaling is also hugely impressive (anandtech) again boding well for Eyefinity.
