*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

ah yes tried that the other day, but even if i incleased the core by 1 it would BSOD in afterburner
i take it this will work in ccc tho ?
do you get BSOD via afterburner ?

it changes in afterburner ( the clocks ) but in ccc its the same

Strange, I don't get any problems when I overclock using Afterburner with/without the limiter removed.

Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how I removed the limiter on CCC but I'll try and find out.

There is nothing below WMV9/VC-1 video playback on my install options. I did have it installed before with my 4870x2. Maybe there is something left from the previous install although I did remove it and use driver sweeper before installing the new card.

I'm having a similar issue to that there. I've been trying to download the newest drivers for my 6950 and whenever I try installing them, it installs what's noted here:

Driver Packaging Version 8.79.6.2-101215a-110532E
Catalyst™ Version 10.11
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1094
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0795
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10315
Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2010.1215.2136.38682

Not to mention I'm getting 20 to 140fps (depending on my clocks) on cod4 at highest settings with something seeming weird about the screen. My 4870 does better than this! This is really quite odd. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers loads and still the problem persists.

[EDIT]: Might wanna know my current hardware. It's like 2 years old so it's not that good and will hold back my 6950 (I'll soon have a good rig). But still, I shouldn't be getting results worse than my 4870:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz (stock cooler)
Asus P5Q Motherboard
Corsair XMS2 4gb ram
And I have a budget 850 Watt psu which isn't such a good idea, but 2 years back i wouldn't have had a clue :P

Seal, also running dual core here...

I'm running 6950 crossfire with both cards flashed to 6970 and am getting fairly poor benchmark performance with my [email protected]. Heaven especially - I get around half the FPS that others are getting with these cards in xfire.

Heaven, 1920x1200, default settings:

FPS: 64.6
Score: 1628
Min FPS: 34.6
Max FPS: 182.8

It's annoying but I'm not fretting too much about it as I'm going Sandy Bridge when it comes out in a couple of weeks so hopefully all my benchmarks will shoot up to 'average' levels.

Here's some of my benchmarks with 6950 CF:

3DMark 2011:

Overall: P5219
GFX: 8815
Phys: 2509
Combined: 2140

Mafia 2, 4x AF, Everything else max:

No AA | AA = "on"
1920x1200 - 48.6 | 49.2
2560x1600 - 44.3 | 48.4

Metro 2033, DX10, AA = AAA, 4x AF, Adv PhysX = off:

Quality = High | Quality = Very High
1920x1200 - 37 | 34
2560x1600 - 34.5 | 31

Crysis, DX10, 32bit:

Quality = High, No AA | Quality = Very High, No AA | Quality = Very High, 4x AA
2560x1600 - 33.72 | 25.24 | 26.97

Are you also getting any problems trying to install the 10.12a hotfix driver? Because any driver version more recent than 10.11 just reinstalls the 10.11 driver for me, even after I've made sure no trace of the driver is left after I've uninstalled. And there is no way I should be getting a worse fps than my 4870 in games such as cod4.

would i be xpecting to see 99% gpu usage all of the time on my 2nd 6950 card
just looked in afterburner now and is constantly 99%

I don't know what it is, but I think that my 6970 might be throttling when hitting about 72C for some reason.

I manually set my fans at 30% when using the internet, 50% when gaming, but if I forget to do this when playing a game, when the heat gets to 72C, as monitored by CPUID HWMonitor, the game will freeze for about 10 seconds, go black, then refresh afterwards, and continue playing as normal. If I set the fans to 50%, it never reaches these temps, and so never does this.

I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, because if not, it doesn't really leave me much room in terms of overclocking if other people can get an extra 20C on my card before getting too hot.

I'm experiencing the same issue with my card aswell. It looks like the card can't handle high temps. I need to eet myfn to 44% to be able to play games with 930/1440 oc. Can't imagine fan to be set on 50% while gaming, mine runs at 34 when it's on auto, setting on 44% starts to annoy, but gaming sound is louder so can't hear it :)

Question for people who bought the HIS 6970. I originally bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, but it arrived damaged (the plastic card holder was in bits and parts of the card had chipped off), i ended up sending it back and getting a refund. Then i saw the deal yesterday and couldnt refuse and ordered another, this ones arrived fine, but i did notice the plastic holder had again been cracked (no damage to card thankfully). Is it just me or is the packaging for these expensive cards a litte..... stupid ? A simple plastic box and nothing else for a (now) £300 GPU, seems a bit daft. Anyone elses boxes arrive in a similar state ?

Had mine on day of release and it arrived fine.

I think you've just been unlucky. Over the past 4-5 years of deliveries from OCUK I've never received a damage item. This has been through CityLink and DPD in Edinburgh. Always well packaged for me also.
