but there are no russians or USA its just the same few guys on both sides

a couple of vehicle skins and a voice over

no effort has been made to have faction specific gimps (specialists ) how hard would it have been to make some for each side with the same skills

short cutting and pathetic

I agree.

I really wish they did just have some extra models for each side and actually make them different for both sides...I really don't get it.

for me its one of the worst things about the whole game and shows how cobbled together what we got was

I dont mind the specialists skills but they need to be divided into role groups

but do enjoy playing it for now

Here's the TL;DW

Summary of 2042 development:

  • Developers started leaving during the release of BFV, as EA wanted to compete against other games (BRs and normal shooters) and their concepts internally never given a look at.
  • EA basically gave the memo of "copy what's popular".
  • Classes scrapped early 2020.
  • WFH with cross-gen was a massive pain with 5 different platforms with hardware being shared remotely.
  • Game shifted into a BF title April-August 2020 from the BR (so basically about 18 months of development time) with 128p & specialists.
  • The games original concept got shifted into Hazard Zone.
  • August 2020 is when production really got started and concepts got solidfied. So basically 1 year and 3 months of true production.
  • The leaked trailer (the epilepsy one) was basically early in production in early 2021 and show to QA in early 2021 in its finished form. Used BF3/BF4 assets.
  • "Ahead of scheudle" was a giant fib. Past & current DICE devs say it was based on baseless predictions.
  • In March 2021 DICE was overwhelmed and admitted they need help from others. But it wasn't easy again due to engine issues with lack of experience.#
  • Later on in the months it became obvious so many issues like UI where creeping up and causing many issues.
  • Technical test came and ofc was unstable and used Orbital as mentioned in the video was the concept map. And made clear the game was way behind schedule. And Tom was given indications then that BF 2042 was in a troubled state and stressed working environment (not due to crunch but more management issues etc).
  • Tom then got word that the beta & launch was going to be delayed but only a few hours later it was clear the delay was weeks and not months.
  • And ofc the last stretch where the beta was basically an alpha and the launch being a launch.
  • In summary vast majority of development issues was a massive lack of time, could've benefitted of an extra year or so in an era where delays of 3-6 months where common. And since so many people have left over development time the studio DICE is basically so different now it needs renaming to reflect reality.
  • Many projects where scrapped including a BC3 which EA thoguht wouldn't sell for some reason.

The future:

  • The next BF shooter is being scoped as a hero shooter.
  • Most interestingly it may be bands of specialists/heroes fighting against each other and not armies, even further away from BF 2042.
  • The "connected unvierse" is basically adding depth to the specialists.
  • A BR will come in the near future, not next 6 months but vague timeframe.
  • That said things have not absolutely set in stone and DICE developers have been hard at work trying to fix the game to be good as possible (though personally in my eyes the game has fundamental issues of the gameplay core that can't mesh well with say the maps, least that's my opinion) and listening to the community.

Decent summary. I wish I was talented enough to develop a game on my own. Looks like EA are abandoning their fan base.

So games to big companies now are all about the young Battle Royale kids, the end?

On the last page as well. 3 supposed years of dev time over half of which was getting the engine up and running properly. The rest was just slapped in haphazardly to get it out the door.
Is this yet more Frostbite shananigans? I'm sure this engine has successes but swear all I have heard is difficulties with it and EA forcing a number of their divisions/subsidiaries to use it. How have they not fixed it or built a new one (laziness/money I know)?

I couldnt give a toss about them a complete bunch on uninspiring non entities and I really dont care who sleeps with who and identifies as what

they could be sleeping with donkeys for all I care

the same goes for cod and its story the first chance you get to skip a cut scene its gone

unless they plan to do a loot shooter its all meeningless

I don't understand what you are asking me.

The original player base you could say are old school. They aren't into what the game developers/publishers are chasing for the Battle Royale/Hero generation so they get alienated.

The originals didn't need all this hand holding stuff that you see is plagued in games today. Dumbing down games that is so blatantly obvious especially the RNG that you see in so many games allowing others to get kills.

That was a part of it. All the other BFs were based on a 2016 version of the frostbite engine. They wanted to move to the latest version but the people who knew how the engine worked had all left. It was at a point where they couldn't even get the game to run, so they brought on the CTO of frostbite to get the game to a launchable state. That's deffo a lot of shenanigans.

I believe we are in the era of snow flakes and predatory practices of micro transactions. Money money money.
This whole scenario is basically EA going, look at all the monies fortnite and cod is making! The sad thing is, they knew this is the direction they wanted to take but instead they devoted their marketing to the old format, basically lied.

Loads of software companies see subscription or microtransactions as THE business model to follow so they are all trying to imitate it.

edit: snow flakes is banned? wtf?

I dont think anyone is really surprised by the reddit post. Its really just what a lot of people has speculated why the game has turned out the way it is.

A lot of the information came from ex developers or people currently working there. How can it be speculation?

Which post was that? The monster one that had everything deliberately dropped?

Speculation from the player base for the design choices in the game when it was released.
