The Official Dell 3007WFP thread (including pictures!)

the design is nicer imo on the 2405FPW as well, and the functionality is second to none. Obviously the 3007WFP is much bigger, but i dont see many other advantages. Dont get me wrong, it looks fantastic :)

it looks perfect.
Basic, not trying to be flashy, and functional.
Most of all cheap.

The ONLY thing im concerned about is having to return it if I get a dead pixel.

ROFL CoupeMad - if you have seen the specs and features youd know which one is to have - just having HDMI compatibility doesnt really impress people who arent interested in Vista etc...

I have!!
I realise the 24" has the extra inputs, BUT surely with a single Dual Link DVI thats enough?

If they had a pic of the 24" next to the 30" that would be good for size comparisons.

I have to say that the HDMI hadnt really crossed my mind too much.

Is it going to be ESSENTIAL for Vista?

I will have to order this beauty in the morning, Ive been using my 2405 for my Xbox360 and its great, shame this 3007 hasnt got the component connectors, I could just use my Sony 50"HDTV for my Xbox in future or even keep the 2405 solely for it. :)

As I understand it its essential to view any HD source in the future due to the hardware encryption requirements (HDCP), HDMI is integral to that - though if I remember correctly it may have already been hacked...

Most transmitted HD media will probably be still viewable via component initially and it will be upto the content provider to decide what the alternative would be if you do not have a secure HD system (either youll see nothing or just a downscaled version of the video)

Please correct me if Im wrong, been a while since I looked at its implications, so things might have changed...

I personally still think a 30" 1920x1200 HDTV screen would have been an ideally compromise, both being useful for general multimedia and useful enough for normal desktop usgae - am I alone in that notion? :p

HDCP support (which this monitor has) will likely be necessary to view HD material in Vista (and when connected to hardware players). HDCP is an encryption standard, and can be used on DVI or HDMI connections (maybe others?).

HDMI is a type of connection, which is likely to be increasingly used in the future. It's a digital connection supporting HDCP, and carrying high-def video plus surround audio. HDMI won't be necessary for viewing protected material; a DVI connection supporting HDCP should be sufficient.

Isnt it only DVI-I that can carry HDCP? - not DVI-D which is seen most often in PC LCDs...

This is where I start getting confused :p

OOOO might be getting this but whats this about scaleability does that mean i cannot run at res lower than 2550x1600 I dont think my x800xtpe & dothan can run fear quake 4, doom 3 at that res smoothly

Considering the X8** Series is unlikely to have a dual-link DVI connector you wont be even able to switch it on into 2D mode @ native, let alone play games on it ;)

Need a new GFX card Im afraid :(...

The difference between DVI-I and DVI-D is that DVI-I carries an additional analogue (VGA) signal.

As they both carry a DVI (digital) signal, both are capable of carrying HDCP content.

The Quadro FX500 is based on the FX5600 according to the report here. This is slower than the 9600 for games!

The Quadro 4 750 XGL is based on the GeForce 4 Ti family, so slower than the 9800 Pro - see a review here

The Quadro FX1000 is also based on the GeForce FX family. As the FX2000 is also based on the GeForce FX family and quicker, I'd expect the FX1000 to be slower than the 9800Pro. (The only faster card really was the FX5950 Ultra - the GeForce FX series wasn't a good performer in general). Check out the detail on it here

This also mentions that it only has a single link connector

Hi

I just installed it as usual - rebooted the PC, booted off the CD-ROM, partitioned my hard drive and off I went. Didn't have any problems

When does it say that you are out of ram?

The other thing to check is that you have drivers for all of your hardware

I had a new 80 gb hard drive lying around so i just took out my other hd and connected it.

i then tryed to format it and it says i didnt have enought ram to do that.

so i formatted the drives of another p.c and retryed and it started installing but then it said out of ram again and stopped
i tryed the p.c at default speed under clocked and over clocked no difference.

I borrowed my friends ram so i had 3 gb and it still failed.
i downloaded 4 copies of Xp64bit edition and nothing they all get the same problem
I even downloaded a hacked version and it failed at the same place saying lack of ram.

I emailed ms but still awaiting an answer 2 weeks and counting

I have tryed this on 3 friends Optys and they all cannot install it weird did we get a broken version/ build what build is yours

I've got Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447 : Service Pack 1)

I've installed various builds, through the early BETAs, RC1 and RC2 without any problems. Perhaps we should make a new thread to discuss this without dragging this off topic any further? :)
