*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

7:00pm Thursday WoTM HM

Bit of bad news, something has come up at the last minute and gotta duck out :(, can't see me making it back in time so feel free to get a reserve in.

If anything is happening tomorrow count me in.

Yeah sorry about that lads, was looking forward to the challenge mode.

As always real life gets in the way :(

shotguns can kill from ridiculous ranges more than a few feet go into a private match with a friend and weapon test them you can be killed from 6-10 feet away with 1 slug from a god roll matador, they either need to be re-worked, nerfed or other weapons buffed. it's about how fast a person can sneak up on you and then shotgun you. that is why titans skating round a map with a force barrier are so lethal it's about the speed at which they can close the gap in which makes the shotgun lethal so overpowered.

Shotgun range isn't the problem. Battlefield has shotguns that will kill you from a much further range.

The problem is the ability of players to close the gap (using destiny's very fast movement system) and get in close to shotgun engagement ranges before you can kill them with your primary.

They either need to reduce the TTK on the primary weapons back to how it was in year 1, or nerf the movement. The movement system is what makes Destiny so I can't see them touching that.

If you reduce the range on the shotguns, people will have to close the gap that little bit more. I'm not sure with destiny's movement mechanics that would make any difference.

Exactly - A guy on Reddit always goes to work on this stuff. TBH I don't know why he hasn't been hired yet...

The sandbox team needs to stop waxing so theoretical with engagement ranges in this game. Players "create" their own engagement ranges with the fast-paced motion of the game.

The sandbox team needs to stop viewing it as a problem when certain weapons kill outside of their "box" so to speak.

Destiny PvP at its highest level incorporates fast motion, and complex motion with high precision (the complexity of the motion, and precision of the weapons is what sets the game apart from Call-of-Duty twitch shooters, and the speed separates it from tactical shooters and Halo). All weapons in the sandbox need to work on the assumption that players will be using complex burst-motion hand-in-hand with the weapons in the sandbox.

He does make some good analysis, but his patronising style is intensely irritating. The devs 'need' to do this, and 'need' to do that.

It's very easy to write these things down. Actually putting them into practice is another matter entirely. The sandbox developers are actually playing the game with differing builds all the time, they do actually know better what does and doesn't work than the players who only ever have the release build.

See it all the time, "OMG the devs are so stupid they just need to do XYZ". Yeah buddy we've tried that and it doesn't work.

Hi folks. Anyone know a way to buy a digital copy of destiny on PS store? There is only TTK (which I own a digital copy) and The Collection available. It wont let me buy the collection because I own TTK and i cant be arsed using a disc every time i want to play :( Any ideas?

Should be a Collection upgrade somewhere (for those with TTK). That's what I did on Xbox anyway. Failing that, there will probs be a Rise of Iron DLC purchase somewhere.

Sounds like BuffetSlayer needs a digital copy of "vanilla" Destiny as just buying ROI would still mean needing the disc every time the game launches.

Unfortunately I don't know if this exists anymore as it was bundled into the TTK and ROI collections.

Exactly this. I just need Destiny base game.

The base game is only available as part of "The Collection" upgrade, but it will not let me buy it because I already own the standard edition of TTK (the one that didn't come with the base game included).

Frustrating to say the least. Does anyone know if the PS store knows you own things even if you delete them from your Library page?

what happens if you delete destiny. Will it let you buy it then ?

Neither Destiny or TTK are installed on my PS4 at the moment. TTK appears in my Library as available but Destiny does not appear at all. I was loathe to delete TTK from my library because I didn't know if it would be permanent? If I delete it and can't get it back and still can't buy The Collection Upgrade then I will be miffed! lol :p

no the license on disk based copies is present on the disc. You can always re-install your license if you have the disc.

Delete the lot and it should let you buy I reckon.

Plus all your destiny characters are stored on bungie servers, so you won't lose anything.

I don't think his calling anyone stupid, more just explaining what he thinks needs to be done, the thread is about changes the community feel are needed in Destiny. Destiny is not a great PvP experience right now, and for most of the game it hasn't been. Devs have been stupid at times like when Suros could kill in 4 shots and the OG Vex, I think a lot of people would have seen that was broken right off the bat and never released it. Throughout my FPS life time I feel Destiny is the least balanced game in terms of gunplay. Even CoD felt more balanced, everything killed fast and worked, not just certain guns with certain perk rolls and everything else just kills super slow or doesn't even land a shot.

Personally, I feel a lot of the problems in destiny is the focus on the average player. Bungie has said they want Destiny to be a competitive game, but then every balance patch and change is aimed at the average player leading us to the current Meta. In an average lobby primaries are perfectly fine, because titans don't skate, warlocks all float around very slowly, hunters either just blink or run. But when you get to higher level Destiny play everyone moves at 100mph. Primaries fall apart very quickly in this meta. Leaving you with lobby after lobby were 2/3 of the kills is from shotguns.

OK thanks, I will give it a try later and let you know.
