That's what I thought it was, thanks guys! Hopefully won't take too long!

Edit: this will take ages, I got a few points in one game, the next game I died a lot, now I'm at zero. Tempted to get rid of stupid thing already.

you basically have to maintain a KDA of >1 for a while
probably easiest way to do this is play control, and camp just outside the control zones somewhere safe. don't run around like a headless chicken ;D also use grenade and AoE super powers to maximum effect, and get heavy weapon ammo whenever possible.
 
I just ranked up my Vanguard rep to rank 3, weapons are now unlocked but it will take me 2 weeks to save up enough marks because I spent the rest on a helmet and other armor piece. Saving up for legendary primary weapon, it's the most important gear slot and also unfortunately the only slot I still have left as a blue quality item >.<

I got a legendary Vanguard fusion rifle for free from hitting rank 3. It is the fire dmg one and it has some really nice modifiers, so happy with that. Will be great for owning wizards.

I went with New Monarchy faction now. I like the look of their PvP gear. Will be a long slow grind, but I guess it gives me something worth playing the game for outside of PvE..!

Which weapon are looking at? I've got enough for one after getting the vanguard level three yesterday. Tempted to get the auto rifle shadow price.

Any benefits of getting high rank with vanguard? Not seen anything that needs above a 3 yet, so might switch to another faction.

Thanks for the tips as well, will give that ago. I'm just so crap in the crucible, get like two or three kills a game and many, many deaths. Not as fast at it as others.

getting an auto rifle with "easier to aim whilst under fire" is crazy OP in PvP :D

also has quick draw aim perk

i feel my PvP "skill" just doubled lol


ok no joke this is srs, weapon atk and armor defence, doesn't mean jack in PvP, HAVING GOOD PERKS ON YOUR GEAR IS VITAL!!!

"easier to aim whilst under fire" is ridiculous, it gives you a HUGE advantage against another player who doesn't have it, makes it a LOT easier to stay on target in a duel.
picking a sight/scope which aims extremely fast is also vital, and if you can get a gun with the "quick draw" perk as well, you get another huge advantage over your opponent.

i literally just came 1st place 3 times in a row in 6v6 team deathmatch mode, JUST due to this simple gun upgrade..!

Every time you rank up your Vanguard, you get a guaranteed legendary from rank 3 onwards. But I'm gonna switch to the New Monarchy one I think cos I like the look of their armor set.

I can't remember which weapon I had my eye on, but I basically just need a decent primary for PvE. I really want the perk which lets you keep the radar on the map whilst aiming, bcos I get ownd every now and then on boss fights by focusing too much on the boss and not realising a bunch of adds just dropped on my head >.<

hmmm legendary / exotic weapons take AGGGGES to level up.
do you have to be actively using them to gain experience on them..?
because I swear my armor levelled up far quicker. my exotic weapons in particular are taking an ultra long time to unlock the weapon perks :-\

anyway, I'm off for today, back on Sunday PM..! HF

I did this today, it's much easier because assists count as kills. So basically hang around other players and help them get the kills but let them take all the risk ;)

Armor levels up just by having it equipped, weapons have to be the ones out actually getting you the kills. Easiest way to do it is just have anything you want to level up equipped and turn in a load of bounties that you've completed, always guarantees me a level up or 2, this is how I'm leveling up the Exotic rocket launcher I bought otherwise it would never level up.

Also equip your 2nd sub class when turning in bounties if your main one is maxed out because the exp from the bounties will also level up your skills.
 
grrr this game is beginning to get to me. Hit Level 20 no problem by completing missions, but I just can't seem to get to level 21!! - 8 hours so far and nada! Ran out of bounties to do too!

I'm on +11 light, keep getting green rubbish engrams (= crud weapons/armour which I dismantle asap) - need more blue armour with light.

Got about 6 blue engrams last night - 2 decrypted to motes of light, 4 to crappy green armour/guns.

Finally got a blue engram today which gave me a kick ass fusion rifle but still no armour with light - what am I doing wrong?

Would be much quicker to just increase your vanguard rank to level 2 and by the time it gets there you will have enough vanguard points to just buy the legendary pieces of armor, boots and guantlets and a long the way to that rank you will no doubt get those blue pieces of armor you're after.

I think level 25 is the point where more blue stuff starts to drop more regular or so I've been told.
 
I did mine off bounties, each one giving 50-100 each towards your rank. otherwise you're going to have to play the strike play lists but I don't think they give anywhere near as much as the bounties. The patrols missions on the planets surface also give anywhere between 10-25 points per completion.

It might take a couple of days because of having to wait for the bounty refreshes, but if you're main goal is light levels you may as well invest that time to just skipping the blues and going right for the legendaries because your next goal will be those anyway. You might just want to do the strike play lists because those will give you the vanguard currency to spend and increases towards your rank.

Not bothered about light levels really bud - I just heard I need +20 light to level up? Or am I confusing something else.

I'm on Level 20, just can't seem to get to Level 21! Agree with you about the armour - The Legendary ones are my real goal!
 
No idea on the exact figures, all I do know is the max you can get from blue pieces is +15 and multiply that by 4 pieces of armor gets you 60 which is level 24, a non upgraded legendary gives you +18.

I'm on 87 light i think and I'm 27 and none of my legendaries are fully upgraded yet and some aren't even close.
