*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

A pick up group of random players is a pick up group no matter where they come from, matchmaking or not. I don't agree with you at all in any way shape or form, but it's fine, you keep on pulling out nonsense reasons why you are correct. As for being told we couldn't do it with a pickup group, err yes, we were told that, quite loudly and quite often.

As for people who sit in strikes and do nothing, yes it's quite obviously a problem, but I doubt it's a huge percentage of the number of matchmade strikes that actually go through without a hitch.

It was a pick up group with people from all over the place (including one other overclockers member on one of the raids). We had guys from all over the world, US, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy. Comms were no problem. sorting out tactics again, were no problem, despite you guys going on and on about how it would be impossible for this to happen in a pug.

quote them. Go on, post up the links to the posts. If you were told so often it should take you seconds to find the posts.

The fact you think this just illustrates how much you are misunderstanding the issue.

In a pickup group, Nationalities aren't that much of an issue if they can speak english. If they can't speak english they will likely be ok if they can at least understand it when told where they need to go and have a deep understanding of their role in the raid already and only need to know left / right / middle etc..

Again, we were talking about what happens in match making, not pickup groups.

The problem with PUGs in attempting rhe raid in Destiny is that the mechanics of the raid itself are really obtuse and the battles them selves (for those you can't cheese) are extremely drawn and frustrating unless you are all microphoned up.

The VOG would be better broken down into 4 different raids with longer maps to get to the final boss, and with the mechanics of the battles them selves fined tuned.

As it stands it is too long and drawn out and technical for a PUG to do the whole thing from start to finish.

Heres one.

so you've found one. The second post refers to having to dumb the raid down if they opened up match making.

Not quite so frequent after all.

Most of us in the "no matchmaking" camp are firmly of the belief that doing so would be detriment to the raid. Go have a look on destinylfg, where they are selling not just Atheon checkpoints, but also offering to kill atheon for you. People are buying this who not only can't be bothered to do the raid, but even when they get a checkpoint, can't even cheat and cheese him off the edge and have to pay somebody to do it.

These are the sort of no hopers you wouldn't be able to turn away in match making.

There was page after page of arguments on it by people saying that you wouldn't be able to complete it with a pug or matchmade team. Which is incorrect.

all of which was about open ended match making. not pickup groups.

Pickup groups are the reason destiny doesn't need match making. If you remember the argument started when somebody started with the "you must be socially retarded if you can't arrange a pickup group" comment which then set a load of people off who pointed out they don't want to schedule a time to do the raid, they have lives etc.. and just want to hop on and play.

But the person who started this off was pointing out that anybody can be part of a pickup group, and if thats too much trouble for you, then <insert insult here>

Somebody else's words, not mine. But thats how that argument started. Go back and re-read it. You've heard people discussing match making and instantly assumed we were talking about pickup groups. Most of us (with the exception of the person you quoted above and maybe one or two others) were on about open ended match making where you can's stop free loaders trying to make you carry them round the raid, people turn up without voice comms, people disregard their designated role and generally do whatever the **** they want, ****ing up the raid and go and run off and try and try and be a hero.

Oi it wasnt an insult it was a perfect scapel like incision into the heart of the ill-informed moaners :p. This being brought up yet again on such a shaky argument just seems to corroborate my point.

So many options to get a raid party together that matchmaking just isn't needed and still my opinion that raids are better without - especially with the constant changes Bungie are making to it each week. Ideally find a regular group and stick with them!

pug's would only work if the raid was dumbed down.

See how taking something out of context isn't a good way to make a point. I mean, according to your quote above, PUG's dont work ;)

As others have said the argument was ab8ut random matchmaking anyway so it seems youve missed the point. Having a mixed age group of people from across the world with no guarantee of microphone or indeed common language sets would make the raid too hard/impossible.

I myself was involved in that discussion from near the beginning and as someone who has taken part in multiple reddit organised groups i can say that it does work. A pick up group guarantees same language players, people who are there have gone there for a reason so are less likely to join and **** off or **** about. People tend to go to PUG's due to a lack of pre-existing friends available for a raid, which means they are looking for new people to add to a friends list and hopefully play with again in the future.

The points above very rarely happen in matchmaking so that was the point. Random matchmaking would make it too hard, at least until the next level cap is out and people can breeze through it due to being level 31+.

Hell I did it with a bunch of random northerners who sent me an invite while I was in the tower last week (still don't know why I accepted it :p). They never had completed it before and had just had some drop outs but I just helped them through the VoG itself and just made sure people knew what to expect and what they should be doing - we got there in the end!

And now I get invites from them to tag along to raid - so worked out nicely for all

No one thinks its impossible to do with matchmaking its just not the easiest/best way to do it so we are just trying to save you grief and ultimately derive the most fun out of what is still the best part of Destiny...

Out of interest, how? If I wanted to try the raid this weekend where would I go to find 5 other players?

Either Destiny LFG or the raid thread on this forum. Already got a fair amount of OcUK'ers added on PSN so it's sometimes just a case of throwing up a party, invite some people and see who's game.

I've managed to hit 30 luckily enough!

I quickly did the Raid cheese before the patch on hard, first time doing it on hard and got the helmet!

Not really much for me to do now with me being max level :D I still wouldn't mind the Vex gun and the Raid sparrow but oh and maybe the Raid Assault Rifle but apart from that I'm covered until the next content! I'll probably pop on to do the weekly/dailys for resources and buy whatever Xur has on offer for Hunters!

Anyone else having connection issues.. can't seem to login, getting a "Zebra" error.

Destinys having multi-platform login issues that have been going on for the past hour or so. Been about 30 mins downtime for me and theyve put a bulletin out on the bungie site saying its buggered.

I think they should spend less time fixing loot caves and nerfing weapons and remove whoevers head is stuck up the ass of one of the servers. I mean, seriously, if they cant release a game that works properly why are they running round trying to fix little meaningless things?
