*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

That was the hardest bit but we stayed by the door you come through (not the one you open) and backed out up the stairs when we needed to. It was much easier that way.

Now *that* I've never tried.
I always run laps around the stairs and jump across the platform, often running into a wall of wizards and *gulp*.

the best spot is in the far back left corner as you enter the room.

You can put your back to the edge of the room so you only have to look ahead, and theres a nice rock for you to hide behind which can easily fit 3 of you.

No need to worry about the shrieker that constantly spawns in the entrance room either.

Btw in case you didn't know, it's lightswitch and arc burn... thralls melee is arc. They will one hit you xD And the knights + wizards being arc was bad enough!

That was the problem I had, the thralls rushed me even through the door on the three waves part and I couldn't get them all down quickly enough to stop them whacking me.

Stuck at level 24 at the moment. Just need to get to level 2 vanguard. You weren't wrong that this game is a grind!

It's such a grind at 24/25, before these levels it's not difficult to level up. I couldn't be bothered last night to grind, so will pick it up tonight. Around 800 off Level 2, so going to focus on some +100 bounties (the heroic modifier missions), and the patrol+bounty combo.

Maxed out my marks at 200 ages ago so should be fine once I get there.

You don't really need it until the final Wizard wave. First time we did it they stayed at range until 2 of us foolishly died, then rushed in. Every subsequent run after that they pretty much charged us the moment they turned up. If you didn't back out and get ready to run up the staircase at any moment (if you die, make sure you clear out the room at the top again cos they respawn!) they will just mob you.

interesting i got all factions at stage 3 or more. Found one annoying thing there is only one chest with scouting riffle ammo perk and that goes with sniper riffle :/

krisboats what hax is it this week ??

tbh for this is the worst part of pve in destiny. Nightfall = hax dont think anyone ever did any of em proper way :(

It was pretty easy to be fair, there was just me and my friend and we stood in the far left corner behind a rock for cover while shooting the **** out of the main guy at the end. Arc sniper, arc rockets and vision of confluence while being levels 28 and 29 had him down in no time. The rest of the level was pretty easy as well. A crit snipe with arc damage had him taking around 7000 damage per hit so the final boss was maybe 5-10 mins.

Compared to some of the others, this one was super easy. Solo'd the weekly in about 15 mins as you can run past most of the enemies.

Tips from Reddit on how to complete this weeks Nightfall. Dreading this one tonight. Gives me bad memories of Bad Thorn

EDIT: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

If you are a European player be aware there are server issues (again) and you may get kicked to orbit at the moment (see @BungieHelp twitter).

UPDATE: Just managed to clear it on my Titan no errors, some friends are running it now also no errors, so the issues may be resolving.

This weeks Nightfall is particularly tricky, so pay attention. Arc burn is on so bring a good arc sniper and heavy. If you have Fatebringer from the raid, great, it not Vision of Confluence is a great alternative otherwise just bring your favourite primary. But you MUST bring an arc sniper. You will also need a few special ammo synthesis, mostly for the last boss.

My loadout: Vision of Confluence Patience and Time Zombie Apocolypse WF47

Setting off into the strike you can ignore the trash outside upto the three knights (just jump over them) and head down the long stair case to the first pack of serious trash. Nightfall modifier isn't active here yet so if you die don't worry, but try to get into the practice if playing very, very safely. Take out the entire room from the doorway, use your arc sniper for the wizards and knights and primary weapon for the rest.

Beware Thralls! They benefit from both Arc Burn (triple arc damage) and Lightswitch (triple melee damage) modifiers and WILL ONE SHOT YOU. I would take them out first and then work on the rest.

Once the first room is clear, go down the steps to the next room with the locked door and three waves of enemies. Set Dinklebot away on the door and then step back outside of the doorway quickly.

Wave 1 - A lot of Thralls and Cursed Thralls will come at you, use a grenade and primary weapon to clear them. Do NOT let them get close, Thrall melee as I said above is instant death and the Cursed will kill you with their detonation (it's arc damage, of course). There are also 3-4 knights shooting large arc boomer shots at you. These should be sniped, carefully. If they start shooting at you strafe left into cover, they won't one shot you but they do hurt and three shots will be enough to kill you if they hit you head on. After the knights there are just various low ranking hive to deal with, mop up and bring on wave two.

Wave 2 - More Cursed Thralls, but they won't come out of the room to where you are stood in the corridor. Also more knights but the melee type so just step into the room to make them run towards you then step back and snipe away. Two wizards will also spawn, one with a yellow HP bar, to the left of the room (large circular area), snipe at them but be quick they like to swoop away into cover. Be very careful with the wizards as they are firing arc blasts, smaller ones but they can still kill quickly. Once the wizards and knights are dealt with carefully pick off the remaining hive. Some yellow HP acolytes but they deal void damage and so aren't a huge threat.

Wave 3 - This is what most will struggle with. There are four wizards spawn here, one is the named NPC who acts as the rooms boss. Stay at the doorway and pick off what you can. You may have to extremely slowly and cautiously have to step into the room and back out to lure enemies to you.

NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT: When the four wizards are lured, SPRINT ALL THE WAY BACK UP THE CORRIDOR to the top and turn around and using either the lip of the tunnel or the rocks at the top as cover snipe back down the tunnel and take out the wizards. They will eventually go back into the main room, if they do, walk part way down the tunnel (half way) and shoot with your primary into the room, this should lure them out (and again SPRINT to the top into cover, turn and snipe) but you may have to go further down, it depends how far into the room they retreated. You must kill Mormu (labelled as Mormu, Xol Spawn) and his three wizard chums before it is safe to return to the doorway, where you can mop up anything left using the same tactics as you were previously.

Once all three waves are defeated head down through the unlocked door. You will come to a room with an Ogre and a Hallowed Knight, these can be sniped from the entrance to that room relatively quickly. A few Thralls and Cursed Thralls are to the left and/or right, be careful not to let them get close, and mop up the few hive remaining once they are dealt with.

Heading down the tunnels again brings you to the large open area where you turn left. Move slowly, wait for the enemy to spawn in particular another wizard or knight (it's always one or the other) who should be sniped first, then mop up the remaining hive Acolytes with your primary. Also watch out for where the steps lead up to the platform where a number of Acolytes are sat, a door to the left at the top will unleash a handful of Thralls at fairly close range.

Once this pack is all dead, drop ships to the right deposit a wizard each and some more acolytes. Take out the lot for safeties sake. Snipe the wizards, primary the acolytes. Once these are dead you can snipe the two Hallowed Knights that are the final trash pack between yourself and the boss.

Now for the boss. Phogoth is actually fairly simple if you follow this tactic:

After the two Hallowed Knights there are three small rooms leading to Phogoth's big boss room. The first we'll call the 'back' room, the middle we'll call the 'safe' room and the one closest to the boss room we'll call the 'antechamber'.

Move forward enough to cause the door to be open, and immediately unleash as much arc sniper/heavy ammo into the boss as you can manage before you start taking fire. Once you take fire retreat back not to the safe room (ie the middle of the three small rooms). Reload your sniper and look through a narrow gap that should allow you to see the boss. I made a short video to illustrate:

Youtube Video

Shooting down this gap with your sniper you should be able to kill him fairly safely. Just a few points:

If he moves to the right, run forward, chuck a grenade to his right to force him to the left or shoot him a few times to lure him to the left and then run back and keep sniping (as seen in the video above).
Do not take longer than 10seconds to do so, as 10seconds in this first antechamber spawns a shrieker above you. If that happens just hide in the safe room (middle antechamber) until it despawns.
If any trash appears and blocks the bosses doorway, kill it with primary/heavy or hide out of sight in the safe room and wait for it to despawn.
You will likely need at least 1-3 (depends on clip size and damage) special ammo synthesis, since you can't hit the bosses crit spot from here.
DO NOT EVER retreat to the 'back room' (the chamber closest to where the Hallowed Knights were) as this will cause the boss to reset and you will be kicked to orbit. So never go further back than the middle 'safe' room.
Eventually he will die, and the mobs in his room despawn. Congratulations you've beaten one of the harder Nightfalls.

EDIT: Some clarifications regarding which of the antechambers to use and which not to, thanks to /u/Kilohurtz for the reminder.

EDIT 2: Thank you kind internet stranger for the gold! :)

EDIT 3: Thank you kind internet stranger number two for the second gold! Greatly appreciated, helps me find new replies to these guides and offer yet more tips :D

More server issues? Please god no.

Took me 2 hours to even get on last night. Seems fine at the moment but if it goes during the raid later on I won't be pleased.

EDIT:

Just solo'd Weekly Heroic on the hardest setting. Got 9 Strange coins and a Legendary Engram which decoded into Warlock chest armour for my other character that I got to level 20 last night. Nice start to the evening :D

Where does it show you your reputation level?

Sweet, finally got a positive k/d ratio in the crucible, just shy of 1.6, and got highest score. With a scout rifle. I'm normally terrible at crucible and usually get a k/d ratio around 0.3.

Sorry for those of you who've invited me to fireteams tonight. Either my connection or PSN is acting up as I only noticed the invites after I had gone to the dashboard. Even then it wasn't letting me join a 2/3 fireteam, saying it was full.
Still, I doubt I'd be much use, as apart from a shotgun, I've no Arc damage weapons. Might have to shell out for a second Epitaph sniper rifle which has it, as the one I have is Void damage (it was from a drop).

On a separate note, I've completed the exotic bounty for the shotgun Invective. Haven't really tried it much but it seems quite fun in the Crucible, just painfully slow to reload.
