*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Wow, so if you've just got rank 3, you will have to get all the way up to rank 4 for just one upgrade?

Yup so if you want 4 pieces of armour you have to rank up the VG four times (or possibly three if your are just about to rank up now).

I'm interested in finding out if a crucible commendation can be attained by levelling up one of the factions. By looking at the vendors and descriptions when you hover over the Reputation text it looks like a no! Getting faction/crucible gear will be a pain in the backside if that's the case for those who don't play it much.

Luckily I've almost got 150 crucible marks saved and about 200 rep off a crucible rank up so I'll make those count! hoping new monarchy have an updated Vanquisher rifle for sale :)

Interesting question - I don't know the answer to that. I assume each vendor will have their own commendation or the crucible one can be used at a faction (considering the factions only take crucible marks... (WHY?!) this is a possibility).

Well I've got 10 completed bounties so if I hand them in and complete a few more tomorrow I'll get rank 4. What a ballache that is :(

This is how I think it will work too. If you go to a faction now and hover over where it says "Reputation" near the top, it lists crucible commendation and marks. They didn't mention faction specific commendations either so I'm thinking you're right!

Do the nightfall and weekly strike, if you do the nightfall first is gives an extra boost to the reputation given from the weekly strike. Almost 1000 rep by doing the two!

Just a little more grinding....

I will have someway to go to grind out the next vanguard rank on either of my Warlocks - saying that I think Bluey is about half way through one. Pigtails has been ranking up the other factions (I don't know why - I don't have enough CM's!).

I should hit level 31 easily enough with a re-rolled exotic helmet, single piece of raid armour and if required some VG armour. Level 32 I assume is possible from the normal raid alone (with an exotic filling in the blank) but I am not 100% on that.

I'm posting this for the right reasons, not meaning to start any aggro...

A lot of you will know I played Destiny a lot, a hell of a lot, made some great friends and had a great time. Due to both some personal circumstances and the recent change announcements I've decided now is as good as time as any to quit Destiny and move on. It's an addiction I needed to boot and am grateful I have found a reason.

Several days before I reached this conclusion, I paid £35 for the DLC ready to download it on the 9th. Obviously I then regretted this given my decision. £35 is a decent sum of money to anyone.

  • My first port of call was to check the transaction history as normally you can cancel pre-orders yourself, no option there.
  • I then emailed Sony. Their response was that pre-orders could not be cancelled unless found to be defective. It was this illogical response that was red rag to a bull.
  • I then emailed a formal complaint. Their response was the same.
Enraged even further by such a bizarre response, I beat them at their own game. I called the helpline number, after a 50 minute wait () I got through to someone. I explained the previous communications which he then went on to acknowledge. Given it was £35 up for grabs, I then went on to complain on how Destiny was such a bug ridden mess and gave specific examples of the VoG not being completely fixed, the various Bee errors etc. etc. My closing statement was that, in fact, Destiny itself was defective and therefore did not want to proceed with the DLC on that basis as by implication that would also be defective. Finally, they agreed to refunding my £35 for the DLC.

TLDR; Managed to get a £35 refund from Sony for the DLC by emphasising the core game itself was defective.

Hopefully this may help someone in a similar position who wants to ditch Destiny before the DLC hits.

easy enough to do if you max out your bounties and everything else on a daily bases but your screwed if your just a casual gamer

I just can't be bothered with grinding the same ****, particularly when the bounties are rubbish like use your super 20 times, the fusion kill one or any patrol farming bull****.

So I've had about 6 weeks out of the game. Before I stopped I was doing:

Daily story on hardest
Daily public even
Strike playlist for vanguard

Has anything changed? I'm still level 28.

That's an unfortunate part of any MMORPG

In terms of that gameplay, no. There is a new PVP event where Iron Banner is better than it used to be and now there has been a lot of switching around with items with buffs/nerfs to a number of guns and they way exotics work has been changed for the new DLC (level 32 will be possible). The actual drops, content and level system remains the same.

Oh I know, played WoW for a couple of years but it's just the lack of variety and grind-y nature.

Got both my characters to the fringe of Vanguard 4 so hopefully will be able to get level 30 and 29 on them tomorrow / Wednesday and upgrade exotics if Xur is feeling generous.

Nothing has really changed, but the fundamental activity missing from your list is the raid, or from tomorrow if you have the DLC, both raids. It's added a great deal of replayability to Destiny for me.

Does anywhere actually say it in that way though? All i've read so far from bungie is that to buy the new armour from the vanguard, etc you need A commendation. But they don't specify whether that refers to you needing a commendation before you can buy as much as you want, or a commendation for each new piece.

Some of the new ones look pretty funny. Shoulder-charge kill a hive wizard (the ones that fly) for example.

I think in the absence of specific information, it's best to expect the least desirable option which, in this case, would be a commendation per level. Each commendation will allow you to purchase one legendary item.

Thinking about it logically, the above makes most sense as if a single commendation allowed you to purchase as many items as you want, what would be the point in levelling up further? I'm pretty sure Bungie have stated that you get a commendation each time you level up, so it's all but certain that it's a consumable which is used up per purchase.

I don't think requiring two currencies for a single purchase makes much sense at all, which is why i was hoping it was just a "we'll make them all get to the next rank before we let them buy anything" in the same way that rank 1 was essentially useless when you needed rank 3.

All i've read so far is:

In order to purchase one of the new Crucible/Vanguard items, you must first acquire a Crucible/Vanguard Commendation (after Rank 3+).

Commendations are received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level.

Ranking up with each Crucible/Vanguard vendor will allow you to receive these.

And bungie themselves said
New Rank Commendations
In addition to Crucible or Vanguard Marks, purchasing new Legendary items will require a Crucible or Vanguard Commendation
Commendations are received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level

Nobody mentions spending them! Grrrr :p

The new system is akin to buying something in a shop and it costing £6.70. Imagine if, in order to buy it, you needed a total of £6.70 but you needed to use a £5 note to pay for it. It's just a pointless request when you'll get one of them while trying to earn the other. The only thing it will do is see players wasting marks while farming for commendations.

I went through something similar myself to get DriveClub refunded befor it was released. It took about 3 weeks but finally in the end they gave me my money back as I argued I requested it BEFORE the game was released.

In the US they will refund straight away prior to the game being released, but here in the UK its a ball-ache.

I actually used that £35 I got back from Driveclub to pre-order the Destiny DLC. After last nights hard mode raid try I actually feel exhausted with this game. Never put this much time into a game and agree it s an addiction!

Not gunna bother getting a refund as I'd like to try the new RAID's - but other than that I dont find much else in it alluring - I'm just hoping MGS or Uncharted comes out soon - that will get me off this darn game lol
