*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

So I tried the Destiny demo/trial on the PS4 and I was wondering how representative it was of the full game as I found it very dull and repetitive?

Sounds about right :p

All of the story missions generally are boring and not worth doing again so im not surprised the game didn't come off too well. Did you try the first strike out? That's probably a better representation of the full game. Unfortunately you don't get to try VoG which is a pretty good 6 player raid (extended strike) with interesting mechanics in it. This game will feel a bit soulless if you don't use party chat and play with people you know. The good news is this game has a pretty big following on the forums and plenty of people play it here(it must be doing something right), so its not hard to find a group or ask questions on something you're not sure about. If a slightly grindy cooperative shooter that plays well isn't your thing then this game wont win you over.

Thank you for the reply :)

That is probably why it didn't grab me as I do like a story driven game being honest, although I don't think I tried the strike so I will go and check that out, thanks.

The mechanics seem very solid and it is a nice looking game also but it just seemed like it was lacking 'sparkle' I guess, just seemed a bit sterile. It is a shame as I need some decent titles on PS4 as I have had it over a year and barely played it as there is not much on it that grabs my attention that is not available on PC, I really hope the Order is good and Unchartered 4 is on par with the previous games!

I use auto rifle/fusion rifle > all

I'm trying to like the thorn hand cannon but just not getting on with it, sometimes use a shotgun. Its amazing that you can do well even when I started my level 4 character (slight disadvantage with specials etc but generally gun stats are similar for pvp)

Is the glasshouse a necessary purchase? The extended blessings of light etc seem like a superb perk...

It's a pretty solid choice, the extended duration is only 4 seconds I think but I'd say its worth it for those moments where it saves you and others. I use it in the Crota fight on hard mode so everyone gets extended blessing of light when leaving the ogre room or going down to it.

It isn't worth it if you have Helm of Saint 14. The standard buff duration of blessing and weapons is 10 seconds, the helm bumps that up to 15 seconds but as you generally move in and out of the ward of dawn when its up, its a bit redundant. It is an exotic helm with intellect so it does have that going for it and increased grenade kills on super isn't a bad perk but again Helm of Saint 14 does that better as well.

I would actually say Ruin Wings are a better choice of exotic for general use even if they do have strength on them.

Subject of intellect, discipline and strength.

Does anyone aim for a perfect setup or don't care what stats they have?

If you do care, what do you try and get for each class setup?

My Hunter has 0 Intellect, lol. Luckily both the helm and gauntlets give extra Super energy from killing minions of the darkness so the cooldown isn't bad at all.

Normally I'd favour Intellect but the only time I'd be bothered about it is if I had two of the same item and wanted to dismantle one.

Same strike 3 times in a row... Ugh
Got a legendary engram drop (only the third time I've had one) - It was for boots, of which I already had a legendary item... Ugh
Bought exotic engram from Xur - Titan class gauntlets (I am a hunter, and have already had a legendary engram turn into Titan gauntlets)... Ugh

:( The grind from 24 to 26 in this game is pretty damn tedious. I just want to be level 26 so I can see what VoG is like, and maybe have a chance in it.
I'm just a casual-ish player, have been trying my best, but they make it painfully difficult!

earn VG marks - buy level 33 gear from vanguard vendors
earn crucible marks - buy level 33 gear from crucible vendors

easiest and quickest way to hit level 31

easiest way to earn vanguard marks is to farm public events.

Just get destiny public events dot com on a smart phone / tablet beside you and run around from event to event.

Pick up bounties to do on the way and also patrol missions You'll earn rep and marks in no time.

You can do the strike play lists to bump up your marks as well. As said above people think destiny is about waiting for drops. This applies in raids, but in normal PVE content its really about earning the marks and buying them from the vanguard.

If you can get into the roc strike playlist you should be able to hit level 26 with just rare armour which drops all the time. The new rare pieces can hit 21 light so it's a lot easier if you can do that playlist.

I know what setup I'd like but it hasn't worked out so well for me so far. When CE first came out I had various combinations of strength+intellect/strength and discipline+strength, not pure intellect or intellect+discipline like I wanted. I'm fortunate enough now with gear drops that none of my stats are bad on my 3 characters, but it has cost me more shards and glimmer than I would have liked.

Assuming you can get 180% total stat boosts across 3 stats I would go something like this:
Striker: 80 int. 100 discipline (purely for flashbang grenades)
Defender: 100 int. There are good arguments for either stat here, defenders are superb orb generators vs trash mobs, but sticky grenades are still useful
Warlock: 100 int. Melee increases survivability, so its down to personal preference as to how you allocate the rest
Sunsinger: 80 int. 100 discipline. Sunsinger melee is also strong and self res is useful but grenade spam in radiance is devastating especially with praxic fire.
Gunslinger: 100 int. 80 discipline. Knives are useless and trip mines are awesome, so no real debates here
Bladedancer: 100 int. I don't have experience with bladedancers grenades but the melee boosts survivability if you spec right so its probably better to prioritise strength

Ive gone for 90%+ Intellect for (Sunsinger) Warlock and (Defender) Titan with as high strength on the Warlock as possible. Trying my hardest to make a 90% Strength setup for my (Bladedancer) Hunter...

At some point Id like to able to tweak that for PvP but right now its more whats useful for the raids

ps3ud0

I just got my first exotic bounty - I have chosen to do the Bad Juju one (Pocket Infinity & an Exotic Machine Gun were the others)

I wanted an exotic main weapon (I have Plan C from Xur already so didn't want PI)
as Pulse rifles have just been boosted BJ sounded a good choice - I would have preferred a scout or hand canon but so pleased to get my first Exotic bounty at Lvl 30.

If anyone is deliberating whether to buy Plan C from Xur or not just buy it - once you upgrade it to have fast charge this thing is a beast and one shots most enemies/players
