*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

I had one Etheric Light remaining last night and as I'm Level 34 on my Hunter already, I decided to use it on a weapon. I don't have WoC, FB or Hawkmoon.

The only options I had were:
- Atheon's Epilogue
- Found Verdict, Party Crasher, Judgement VI
- Black Hammer
- Hunger of Crota

I went for HoC. I bet you this week the stupid Ghorn will then drop!

I don't want to give up on Trials just yet, but I do think it's just going to get harder and harder as they weeks go on.

I have no real basis for it (I've never played at this time), but I'm of the opinion that Friday evening is the best time to play. I assume it's when the biggest variety of skill levels will be on and so, with a bit of luck, you could feasibly go up against 7 teams in a row who either aren't very good or don't know the map well.

The only problem with that way of thinking is, I'm not very good and I don't know the maps very well! :p

Soon as you see somebody on your team randomly fire 2 sniper bullets in the floor every time they spawn, you know they'll have that BS gun.

When people are going to that level, you can't expect to compete just by rocking up with your favorite normal sniper rifle if the other guy is a good shot with it. How is it balanced if he can kill you with a bodyshot while you have to hit a headshot ?
If they're any good though, they're not going to waste 2 shots. Good players expect to get headshots and then have an easy 3rd kill. The players who waste shots just end up running out of ammo.

not in trials they don't.

There's plenty to go round in trials as there is only 3 of you and you're all working as a team to ensure you pick up the special every round together. Plus it resets every round.

This is only a problem with normal crucible.

They really need a ladder system for Trials, with some kind of ranking and increasing reward tiers. Reset every week as usual.

Gives the uber-PvP teams a challenge and reward for their skill, but gives the poor newblets a chance to compete in the game mode. Having these pro teams stomping newbs isn't good for anyone.

should be able to find a reasonable challenge and get some rewards when they beat other players on their level.

Agreed. I posted this earlier in the thread. There should be a tiered reward system. IMO it seems stupid that you could get to the Lighthouse three times on the first weekend.

Working your way up to get the best rewards over time would make more sense. High skilled teams play high skilled teams for "gold" loot. Mid skilled teams play mid skilled teams for "silver" loot etc

is this something that any top ranking player (no matter their PVP skill)

Trials is end game PvP, same way HM Raids are end game PvE. If you rock up in Trials without the right preparation, you're going to have a tough time. Exactly the same thing applies to HM raids.

Playing with a fireteam helps hugely on the stats front I find.

My average K/D when playing with OCUK is probably around 2.5 - with plenty games being 3.5+.
My average K/D when playing by myself is probably around 1.0.

I think that depends on the fireteam to be honest. One of my friends is great at PvP and typically gets the highest score each round. If I play with him and we play serious, I do well. I played IB the other night with a different couple of friends, and we had a bad set of matches, losing 4 in a row. My K/D during those matches was below 1.0. As soon as I went solo again I went back up to around a 1.5-1.7 average and I won 3 out of 4. Swings and roundabouts.

I think map knowledge was a huge hinderance for me this weekend. I'd never played the map before so had no idea of the sightlines and places people could come from. Trials is unforgiving enough without trying to learn the map at the same time. If the next map is one I've played before then I'll definitely be interested in trying again.

You really have to change up your play style in trials though. IB/Control you just have to go flat out aggressive to get those control points. Dying a lot isn't an issue as long as you're taking plenty of people down with you and holding 2 points.

I wouldn't take my usual melee/shotgun warlock tank build into trials.

All the best players I've seen (who stream) play exactly this way - full on rush mode. Obviously they have the skill to do it but it feels like it'd be the best tactic anyway. Teams rarely expect it and often aren't geared up for it, so if you can get past their snipers, it can be very rewarding.

Disclaimer: rush tactic (or any other tactic) has yet to work for me in Trials!

Check out AEGabriel on Twitch if you haven't seen him already. I happened upon his stream a couple of weeks ago, not knowing who he was. Turns out he's #2 on the leaderboards and about to go #1. The speed he moves around the map with a Striker Titan is crazy!

Oh most definitely. I went Thorn/Sniper in Trials, it was just the level of the last few opponents that was too much. The first few games were good, fairly even matches that we ended up winning. It was just when we ran into "pro" teams we came seriously unstuck. Throwing us against the same team twice was just a joke though.

I've been watching this guy for a few weeks because Triplewreck said he was the best Titan. The way he moves around the map is crazy and he's very aggresive. Really good to watch him play control. Loads of surprised guardians who never saw him coming with a knee to the face!

Trails is far more about communication then anything else. Off course if your top 1% in the game then you can just go solo a team but for most half decent players just having a good plan and communicating properly will go a long way. Also need good map knowledge and maybe try a few times.

I skipped last weeks but the week before I went along with a random fire team of LFG, I had the most crucible experience and highest kd so none of us where amazing. First round was horrible and we went 0-3 then we tried again with a better idea of each other's play styles and map knowledge and we went 6-3 then 8-1. That one lose on the final game was 3 douche warlocks with final round and res which was just near impossible to beat at our skill levels.

Also the new crucible changes should help, I've been playing loads more and I'm improving, when we go in a fire team I'm almost always pulling 2+ kds and 20+ kills, and it's a lot of fun too.

Question guys. Bought this game for my lad after he keeps playing mine on the xbox one... He has got a xbox 360... Anyway i could get the packs for free using some trickery with my account on his 360?

A warning for the wolves' bounties - the treasure key is only guaranteed when you do a grey bounty first. If you do blue (like I did) you won't get one! ****.

I wonder what happened to mine then. I'd already got one in my inventory from somewhere but I'm sure it wasn't from today. Maybe it was and I'm going mad.

EDIT: Ah, you get your key when you turn in the bounty to Petra. I thought it would be in the ether chest.

I've seen this a couple of times now - how do you fire a sort of proximity mine from the scorch cannon so it detonates when the baddies go past it?

Don't agree on this analagy

The Raid is a fixed entity. You will always face the same raid boss with the same mechanics. With Atheon you will always have to go into the past / future words and detroy the oracles to be able to go through the vex time gate back to the rest of your time team and survive. This will then grant you times vengeance and enable you to pile damage on Atheon.

Likewise the templar will always have to have his sheild taken by using the same amount of force before guardians open and fire on him.

Trials is not fixed at all because its PVP. Sometimes you can go 9-0 flawless relatively easy because you come up against a sucession of opponents of equal or less skill than you. Equally you might lose 5 on the trot after facing 5 teams on the run who are all considerably better than you.

Both are part of the same end game content, but with completely different experiences because the match making is random.
