*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

So how do you guys have your three character slots filled? Do you have one for each type - warlock, titan, hunter or do you have a mix and match? I currently have one of each but I'm thinking of ditching the titan or hunter and having a second warlock so I don't have to faff about changing things each time I do PVP or PVE.

It was only worth having two or three of each in vanilla, because the only way to hit 30 was VOG and the drop rates were pitiful.

Now though, you will just be missing out on some different styles of play and not really gaining anything because you get what you need without any problems.

Next question - reputation. I didn't realise you could equip items from the three factions and earn reputation from vanguard bounties until recently. I thought you only raised their rank through the Crucible. D'oh.

So what does everyone do with their reputation? Do you leave it on default for Vanguard and Crucible or do you stick with one particular faction? Does any one offer better ranking-up rewards than others? Or is it all totally random and you make as well leave it on the defaults?

Personally I would get all factions, including Vanguard, Crucible, New Monarchy, Dead Orbit and Future War Cult to rank 3 first up, so you can buy any of their gear.

Once you've done that, stick to DO/FWC/NM for them shaders and ships that come from the reward packages. Vanguard/Crucible don't drop anything you can't buy from vendors.

I've got two shaders, Amalthea from NM and The Hanged Man from DO. No ships yet :(

I would say to get the full experience and to find out which character you prefer you need all 3.

As for factions just run a faction on each character permanently.

So do all your dead orbit on your hunter for instance.

I would rank up to 5 doing missions then do normal crucible to hit 20.

Once you hit 20 buy some vendor armour and do the crota raid on easy for armour drops.

Then do POE once you hit 32/33 to hit 34.

Back in the day I had 2 Warlocks to have double the chance on VoG drops and NF's. Since then though I added a Hunter and once ranked up made a Titan for one of each. I like having 3 characters as it gives me some variation in each characters strengths and weaknesses and means depending on which character I can play different roles.

It is down to personal preference really though, if you don't have the time or willingness to put in hours in to ranking up 3 different sets of armour or you really don't like one character for some reason. Then duplicating characters makes sense as it would be more fun for you.

it's so easy to hit 34 now.

i made a titan 3-4 weeks ago and i think within 2 weeks he was 34.

POE armour, exotics from XUR/NF's and etheric from POE/NF/Trials.

it would take maybe 2-3 hours per week for 2-3 weeks once you hit 20 to hit 34.

wow i have hardly done anything on destiny this week, 3x NF's and weeklies thats it. all my armour and weapons are maxed out so i dont need to do bounties and i still have etheric light in the vault not been used. to be honest am not missing it lol

i can understand doing the NF's for exotic armour.

but why are you doing the weeklies when you have 600+ coins?

i would do POE 32 x 2 for the hunter and titan armour it has a good stat roll on it this week.

apart from that i will be doing crucible only. there isn't much left to do in destiny now and the only thing i enjoy is crucible.

Yeah, I only do the weeklies now if it's a super easy one like this week, or Sepiks Prime two weeks ago. Don't need the coins but the rep is useful.

For factions, I have each character on a different one. Yet to get any shader or ship from them but then they're only at rank 19. I've heard some people being 50+ before they see the first one.

Now that I've levelled another character past 20 I am in the same boat. Depending on your class I'd go round the various vendors to identify stats on gear that you want. For instance the FWC gear is all INT+DIS (no STR) so I am going for that on my Hunter. Every night I pick up the new Crucible bounties, equip the faction item then do some PvP. It's surprising how fast you can level the faction rep just by doing that. I don't PvE or PoE so I am happy to get my gear this way.

Final question for the moment - the radar in PVP. When do you show up on the radar? Is it only when you move? If you stay perfectly still (or have invisibility active) do you not show up?

I've had weird experiences this week where people have just killed me from behind out of nowhere and nothing on my radar.

Hunters can cloak. Crouch as much as you can as you show as 'in the area' - a red circle around the middle of the radar - but not specifically where.

Not quite. Crouching removes you from the radar, except for every few seconds when you'll flash up briefly.

Solid indicators on the radar mean someone is on the same vertical level as you.....just an outline means they are above or below.

Ah OK. I knew about the level up or down but read the same for crouching. I'll keep an eye on the flashy thing.

I didn't know that. I'll look out for it now. I'm hopeless at reading the radar though. I really haven't worked out how far someone is depending the segment that is lit up.

map knowledge is far more important than radar i find. the radar is still useful to know what direction you should be looking in.

learn the maps. learn the choke points. learn where people like to stand or congregate, etc, etc.

the radar should be something you glance at for a split second every few seconds to make sure someone doesn't catch you off guard.

Too many people depend on their Radars, when I play some of the playlists without one I just steam roll everyone, I've never really played FPS with always on radar, used to play a lot of Hard core mode in CoD. I instead just use my wits, I know where my team is, I know where the enemy will spawn, choke points are the same most of the time, people tend to hide in the same corners and so on.

Radar is super helpful with getting into position, if I notice someone rushing they either have a shotgun or a panic super, so I can make sure I get a decent line of sight to get them down before there close enough. If someone is not moving, then there camping around a corner with a shotgun, I try to get an angle where I could see them running away, throw a nade and see what happens.

Using headphones is also very important, you can hear someone go invisible, you can hear someone fire of shots for their last round sniper, you can hear someone pop a super. Using that along with your map knowledge and radar means I can hear a blade dance, make sure I have a decent line of sight and try snipe them. If its a golden gun, I look for cover where I can see a choke point and weave in/out trying to get them to waste their shots while I also try snipe them.
