I like how the Male hunter sits, I have human one. I will delete that toon then since I don't want too lose all my progression, I might wait for TTK for the class items that are meant to boost EXP.

I'm really getting into Prison of Elders since getting the new DLC, but what's the best way to use Etheric Light?
I used my first to upgrade my Warlock VoG boots because they had good STR/DIS stats, but I believe I'm right in saying that although ascending with Etheric Light gets you to the max light level currently available, it doesn't get you to the max defence stat possible (my ascended VoG boots are 357 but I believe there are HoW boots available at 402). In which case does it make more sense to try to get hold of HoW armour and use Etheric Light on weapons?

General rule is ascend armour to get to 34 then worry about stats. I believe you are correct that HoW armour has better stats but if you get to 34 is makes PoE 32 for armour cores easier. Being 34 also means you can run poe 34 and 35, ToO and Iron Banner easier so you can start to really collect etheric light
I think it took me about 4 weeks to get my 3 characters to 34 but only 1 week after that to get enough etheric light for all the weapons I use.

When you ascend something it upgrades everything, the defense values included. If you see a difference it might be because the PoE armour is already 42 light and max defense (no ascending needed).
House of Wolves boots are not 402
The kellhunters boots from prison of elders (PVE) are 357 defense, likewise the Exile armor from Trials of Osiris (PVP). Even my exotic pregrine greaves for my titan are 357 defense. 357 is the max you can currently get.
You're thinking of it from the perspective of owning those others. If this is your only exotic helmet you might use it. I agree when you've got the other two, it does become useless.
