So essentially they are binning the entire system and starting again from scratch. May as well just delete the contents of my vault now. No point in running nightfalls for the remaining weeks until the Taken King

New max rank is apparently 40, and light level has gone completely, you'll need to get to rank 40 using XP alone.

The game informer article says you migrate seamlessly into the new system, but how does that work ? when your rank 20 on XP ? damnit so many questions.

TBH Frodders its probably a template theyll use for Destiny 2 - its very unlikely anything you do now will carry over to that.

Having less RNG is a good thing but its understandable not that impressive when youve suffered that RNG just to get where you are now. I cant shift the notion that the whole 'light levels' concept was just doomed to fail looking at todays news - it was sold to us to be a better way to progress over what they are now moving to...

I guess its inevitable over a 10 year period that we'd lose everything at some point.

Year one was a learning experience for them. The biggest problem with destiny at launch was the forever 29 problem. They refined that with House of Wolves and etheric light, but have gone even further in TTK and removed light levels completely.

Definitely feels like they are finding their feet - while I just am not interested in continuing my journey with Destiny for the moment I look forward to Destiny 2 moreso because they should have a maturer outlook while not having to deal with all the massive pre-launch issues they were rumoured to have.

Anything to reduce the grind and just the organisation/time will be warmly welcomed.

thats another point well made. The demand they were under to just get something out and get the game finished and the massive last minute rewrite means it shouldn't really come as a surprise that they've taken everything we know about levelling up and binned it for new system.

will be interesting to see how the whole normal legendary / raid divide works out in TTK. Will the new raid gear be superior to vendor gear, and will you be able to turn vendor game into the same level as raid stuff ?

So what's point in playing if current weapons and armour are at cap, itll be all new in TTK so why play until then?

It's fun?

Back in my day, you bought your game and had access to every weapon from day 1 and still played it for years on the same maps over and over again!

:p

:p

Is it though? I've not really played in about 3 weeks, same content over and over, and now with no reward as the gear will all be surpassed, is it fun?

Sure, I love crucible, but got bored of the lagfest it is, if it was dedicated servers id be totally game! I've easily got 2-300 hours from it, so still pretty happy with the £>hours ratio!

However until there is new content, i'll probably just dip my toe in with little incentive to play in the interim, other than the social side!

I still enjoy picking it up...in fact I enjoy the game more since HoW, as my one night a week I get to play that game doesn't have to be running the same damn raid hoping for armour, I can do what I want! Mostly crucible.

Saying that, I do want to get to HoJ rank 3 and finish my last cipher on my Titan, want dem shaders. I've got a ton of stuff to do outside game time atm anyway so I'm fine with dialling back the time I spend on it for a few weeks. Be good to come back fresh. Do the usual stashing bounties and marks before it drops :)

For me its mostly PVP, I'm starting to get good at it and I want to progress to being top 10% in the game, stopping now while only halt that.

Also excited for new changes, it will change the weapons you see in PVP, new strats, new classes. Its going to be messy for abit and thats the best part of a game, when no one knows whats the best class/build/weapons/armour everyone just uses whatever they have/like.

Some details from the Game Informer article, courtesy of reddit

* Opening Cinematic is narrated by our new Ghost (Nolan North)
* Cinematic shows the Awoken waging war against Oryx with both Prince Uldren and the Queen involved in the fight.
* Taken enemies wield brand new effects such as Taken Captains wearing solar shields and throwing out orbs of darkness that blind, Knights fling aoe scorch, Centurions shoot tracking rounds, Wizards summon thralls, Psions split into two, Vandals deploy defender like shields that allow them to shoot out and heal, Phalanxes shoot projectiles from the shield, and thralls teleport on the battlefield.
* New world objects exist that can be scanned by your Ghost and give useful information and lore, can even start a dialogue between your ghost and the Vanguard, things like statues, weird worms, etc.
* All items will offer perk customization including weapons, armor, class items, and even your ghost!
* Crucible has improved matchmaking and a new mercy rule that will end a match early when misbalanced.
* New system in place that allows you to sacrifice pieces of gear to empower others from the same slot, may be some kind of transmog system (very few details)
* New quest lines, Eris Morn gives a quest that leads to the rediscovery of a forgotten weapon type.
* New class quest lines, including quests for the new subclasses and added quest lines for the older sub classes that introduce you to them and give some back story.
* Gunsmith has his own reputation meter now, lets you test prototype weapons in the field, with higher rep you can order a weapon once a week that will be delivered on Wednesday with a random set of perks.
* Crucible and Vanguard Marks have been consolidated into "Legendary Marks".
* Class armor materials have been removed, consolidated into one source that is shared between all three classes.
* Can now pledge allegiance to a crucible faction, one at a time only. No longer requires wearing a class item. Can also turn in Motes, Weapon Parts, Armor Mats, synths, etc to gain reputation.
* New computer console near the outfitter that allows you to pick a shader you want, and also displays all the shaders you have yet to acquire and how to get them, same system is in place for emblems.
* Vault space is still an issue, Luke Smith is quoted saying "We are exploring options for getting stuff out of players inventories via these kiosks that we've played around the tower, but we're still working towards a solution that we're excited about."
* At least a dozen new exotic weapons, and at least a half dozen armor exotics per class.
* New Auto Rifle exotic shoots blasts of lightning, sniper rifle that blinds nearby enemies on a precision hit, or the new pulse rifle called "No Time To Explain" that fits the role of a high level strangers rifle that refuels bullets directly to the magazine on precision hits.
* New exotic called Sleeper Simulant, Fusion rifle that sits in the heavy slot and acts as a rail gun, over penetrates and bounces off walls, upgrades improve the bounce count.
* Many exotics are tied to quests, one example requires that you explore the dreadnaught and find hidden pieces throughout.
* Vanguard Mentor gives you your new subclass quest
* New Crucible Modes are Rift, Mayhem, and Zone Control which is just control with kills not counting towards the score.
* New dedicated quest line that introduces players to the Crucible and the respective NPCs like Shaxx.
* Simpler bounties have been made, with more difficult bounties being available and even fireteam based bounties for pvp. Trials now has bounties associated with it as well as new weekly bounties for the crucible which upon completion give access to a sixth weekly and challenging bounty that can reward a legendary or exotic.
* First act of the story is 8 "Lengthy" story missions, with the second act includes additional story missions, strikes, exploration, triggered public events, weapon quests that all lead to the introduction of the new raid called "King's Fall".
* Quests in act 2 revolve around the Taken War, includes quests line Unsealed Paradox which returns you to the Vault of Glass and reveals the fate of Praedyth.
* Presence of "raid-light" mechanics in strikes, Bungie is hesitant to make strikes too complicated due to griefing.

some of the main things i've ranted about as needing sorting in destiny.

So glad they're looking at the number of currencies in the game and trying to reduce them.
