*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

I remember when my ghally dropped.. I had crap weapons and was carried in a NF by McDaniel, least amount of kills and it dropped for me.. My second came from a PoE 32 chest. The whole system is based on rng, the only weapon you "earn" imo are the exotic bounty / elder cipher, vex and nechrochasm.

how do you earn the vex, nechro or cipher? you can be carried through a raid much like people can be carried through a weekly for strange coins. you can be carried through a POE as well.

they are random drops just like gjallahorn is.

it's easier to get and complete a cipher than anything else. i did 4 x 35's and had 1 drop every time. it's like a 75% chance ridiculously high on the 35. then all you need to do is 32's or 34's to complete it both of which are extremely easy.

i've also gotten about 10 vex mythoclasts, but i still don't have a found verdict so go figure.

i have 3 gjally's though legit. it's all luck. done crota plenty of times never had the crux drop but i've had every other weapon apart from hunger drop countless number of times from the crota raid.

you don't really earn anything you roll the dice and see what you get. sometimes you get lucky a lot of the time you don't.

but if you do more raids, nightfalls than other people then your putting in more time to try and get it. so i can see how someone like me who has done VOG 50 times to try and get a found verdict has earned it by the time it drops.

So who deserves the weapon more, the guy who plays 100 hours and it drops for them or the guy that plays 100 hours and then also has to spend coins they earned to buy it?

I don't think it's unfair at all. I think it's great that everyone will get the chance to use the Gjallarhorn. I am however mildly annoyed that I could have simply not wasted the hours I did and just bought one from Xur.
I know it isn't an earnt weapon in the the sense that I didn't have to do a specific set of tasks / grind specific items, but it *feels* earnt in the sense that I specifically played a huge amount of strikes hoping for one to arrive and needn't have bothered.

If anything I'm more annoyed at myself for spending so much time on a game again as I sore I wouldn't do so after my Mass Effect 3 binge a few years ago.

I haven't personally been that bothered by the other exotics for the large majority. I think I used Mida until I got Fang, and then occasionally use Patience and Time. The others have been largely irrelevant to me. Gjallarhorn and the two elemental Scouts were really all I have been bothered about. It's not as if Xur has had a brilliant track record of anything that useful up until recently anyway is it lol

I think you're overthinking this. It's a game, we all play for fun, some of us get lucky and some don't. Those of us who don't, get lucky when Xur finally folds and gives us what we want. Had Jelly been a gun which you have to actually earn, then by all means flip the script, but it's not, it's a random drop.

If you get angry by this, that's on you.

I think people are forgetting that this isn't the first time he has sold it so all talk about earning or not is largely irrelevant as people could have bought it before if they so wanted. Anyway I purchased two more as no matter how much the damage is nerfed having tracking cluster bombs can only still be a good thing :)

I have the destiny limit edition, whats the best way to buy them all, should I just go ahead and get the new limited edition that's coming out soon?

Nevermind just bought it on psn the whole lot.

I say if someone has done 50+ raids and 50+ nightfalls and still doesn't have it then they deserve it anf I'm glad they can now have it.

But someone could have got it in their first nightfall, does that then mean they don't deserve it? Nope because they just got lucky.

I believe everyone deserves to have it. I hate grinding so if I didn't have 3 of them already i'd buy some.

Nobody "earns" anything in this game. If that was the case then Phog would have had his Gjally ages ago, before me, for all his sword runs on Crota! (And for all the failed attempts at the pre-patch glitchy SOB)
To be fair, he had to run sword. Otherwise he'd have to try and bring the big man to his knees with his puny little Hunger of Crota :p

I'm seriously surprised that there's people on this forum who are annoyed that Gjallarhorn is being sold. I thought that mentality was restricted to the cesspool that is the Bungie forums. I have a Gjallarhorn on each of my characters and I couldn't be happier that Xur is now selling it.

First off, read this:

Then you need to level up to 30ish (29 to get in I think) and get dragged through the weekly heroic strike for 9 coins. Then do strikes, PVP matches and whatever you can to get another 5 coins.

All before 9am Sunday.

It's possible, you will require a case of Red Bull :p

Add me if you need folks to roll with: D-i-d-d-u-m-S

Sorry you just spoke alien to me, whats a gjallahorn and a xur. How does a level 1 aquire these?
That was exactly what 99.9% of the Destiny population asked the first time Xur sold it. Boy how they regretted not buying it over the next nine months!

I didn't even know about Xur, or Strange Coins the first time Gjallarhorn was sold. I wasn't even sure what the Mote of Light was for that I got for completing the game. For a long time, I thought the glowing balls of light that seemed to be dropping randomly on the ground while out on patrol were Motes but, for some reason, I couldn't pick them up... Turned out they were orbs that had been created by other guardians, but my super was always full.. :D

Cool, I'll accept this evening when I'm on. There'll be a few of us about.

Do you want to take the story slow and absorb it all or simply smash through it all as quick as possible and get to the good stuff? If the former, by all means enjoy it but if it's the latter, I'll grab someone else and hop in so we can hammer through some lower end strikes and get you lots of XP nice and quick :)
