If they stick to as before then it makes sense that hard mode is 40 or 41 but normal would be (this is assuming there is an normal mode) around level 37 or 38.

Either way, might take a week or so before raiding is a possibility.

I imagine there will be more emphasis on the light required (recommended) rather than the absolute level itself.

It would be surprising though to see the "Normal" raid make us feel weak being at max level (40) with new legendaries (~280 attack/defense thus 280 light).

turns out that the enemies level now means diddly squat. Its all about light levels.


Wtih a difference of more than 40 light levels, the enemies were immune from damage despite Datto being level 40 and the enemies being level 41.

In order to damage them, he had to swap gear round and get his light level up to within 40 levels, then he was able to damage them. The recommended light level for Tier 2 of court of Oryx was 240 light. Datto's character was below 200 light before he bumped it up. At 201 light he could start to damage them.

Looks as though Light level is going to be defining factor in Destiny 2.0, and levels mean squat.
 
Time for Battle!

Update 2.0 is inbound. On September 8th, we’ll all begin to experience much of the Year 2 groundwork. It’s filled with changes to the player experience. It also has some surprises in store for every player – one courtesy of Lord Shaxx himself.



If you’ve bought Destiny, whether you’ve pre-ordered The Taken King or not, we’re sending you into the Crucible to experience new modes of battle on every brand new map. One thing to note: You won’t have the use of your new Super abilities yet. You’ll have to visit your class Vanguard in The Taken King to earn your new subclass. For now, though, you can and should check out the new slate of maps on offer, and two of the new modes.

The Crucible Preview Event will take place from September 8th to September 14th. Go and get yourself an early taste of some Rift! And follow it up with a heaping helping of Mayhem!

Once Oryx arrives in our Solar System, the new Crucible content will become the sole property of those Guardians who pick up and continue playing The Taken King. This is your chance to try before you buy – or download. Think of it as your own personal E3 or gamescom, only it happens at home on your couch.


New Year Resolutions

You have one more weekend to experience Destiny as it has existed in Year One. On September 8th, the deployment of Update 2.0 will change the way we play. Next week, we’ll deliver complete patch notes to keep you occupied. Here’s a tactical preview for how things about to change:

Character
Character Level Cap for all players will be raised to 34
Level Cap for The Taken King will be 40
You will be able to level up by gaining XP alone
Character Level and Light are now separate statistics
Your Character Level will be grandfathered into your highest possible Light Level from all gear in your inventory and vault
Attack and Defense ratings for armor and weapons will be translated to the new systems - their power levels will be unchanged
Grimoire Score has been moved from the Character Nameplate and now displays in the Character Screen

Quests
A Quest Screen will be added to your Menu
Tracks all active Quests
Abandoned Quests can be recovered in the Hall of Guardians
Year One Activities have been converted to the Quest system

Bounties
Bounty slots will be increased to 16
Incomplete Year One Bounties will be auto-abandoned on 09/08 in preparation for launch of The Taken King
Incomplete Year One Exotic Bounties are auto-completed with their respective Vendors
Year One bounties issues by Eris will be retired
Reputation with Crota's Bane can continue to be earned by completing Quests in The Taken King

Tower
Collections have been added to the Tower
Emblems/Shaders can be found near Eva Lavante
Ships can be found near Amanda Holliday
Exotic Armor and Weapon Blueprint added to the Tower
You will now have the Blueprint for all Exotics you own in your Collection
Report to the Vanguard in the Hall of Guardians

Inventory
Motes of Light will be used to grant XP to Weapons and Armor
Class-specific Armor materials will be deprecated in favor of a unified Armor Material
Vanguard Quartermaster, Roni-9940, will exchange old materials for armor material [Update: This change takes effect on 09/15]
Weapons & Armor
Revised Sandbox balance will be in effect, based on our previous analysis

World
Fallen Wolf Hunt Patrols will retreat in anticipation of the arrival of Oryx in your solar system

As promised, full patch notes will be revealed next week. Based on this preview, our Live Team has some last minute suggestions for how you might best spend your final moments in Year One:

Complete those Year One Bounties
Don’t delete characters or dismantle items just yet
Try the Year One campaign again
Jump into the Crucible for some new action
Try your beloved Auto-Rifles again
Destroy remaining Wolf Packs and loot their chests for Ether Keys
Complete your House of Wolves Grimoire as it applies to hunting in the wild
Complete your Moments of Triumph [time extended – read below]

Got it? Good. You have approximately three days from the time that this blog article became a thing to make good on your last milestones of action and adventure. Gather ye Spinmetal while ye may!
 
The Bungie update is quite possible the best weekly update they've done. So much goodness happening over the next couple of weeks. I can honestly say I'm back on the hype train again :D
 
Yeah it all sounds great. In France next week so I won't get to try out the new Crucible Preview Event. Not too bothered though as it's so close to release.

Glad I kept all those materials!
 
Here's a question. Say you had a helmet with an int stat of 118 fully upgraded. Then Xur comes along and sells same helmet at 125. Do you still buy it and go through the rigmarole of levelling it up or do you not bother as 7 points makes bugger all difference? :p

Not worth it, especially with the changes coming in TTK, if its an exotic that's getting a year 2 version then the stats will change anyway.

I wouldn't for an extra 7 intellect but if it was 118 versus say 150+ I would.

Edit: I agree with what Stobo says as well. I've got loads of unlevelled exotics lying around cause I'm waiting to see what is and is not getting the year 2 treatment.

So if the Wolves encounters are disappearing what becomes of Petra in the Reef? Does she become like Eris and just stand there offering shaders? :p
 
Fantastic! Incomplete Year One exotic bounties will be auto completed. I get a Thorn without doing that Crucible grind.

I abandoned it last weekend because of IB!

Hmm thinking about it as I type...that was on my Hunter. I may still have it on my Warlock. Will check tonight!
 
Anyone know if certain Exotic armour pieces such as Helm of Saint 14 will be upgraded in TTK, much likes some of the weapons such as Suros and TLW?

I don't have it on my Titan yet, and Xur is selling it...
 
Warlock had like 4+ items going year two, Helmt of St is a big helm for titans don't think they would leave it behind.

Also going to be hitting Rift hard, love CTF style games always been my favourite.

IIRC Helm Of Saint 14 is going to be a Year 2 exotic (I think it was shown in one of the streams?) but it will have a new unlock path e.g. quest or new drop etc. It's one of the best Titan exotics, so no harm in picking it up now though. Maybe there will be an upgrade path from V1 to V2, but we don't know yet!
 
I've asked this question before but I can't remember the reply.

Is it worth storing treasure keys to use on PoE 34/35? Do you get better rewards for those ones? I've already had my quota of two exotics this week on 28. Or are the treasure chests purely a bonus and you're supposed to just do 32/34/35 for the cores and etheric light?
 
Yeah, there won't be anymore fallen bounties it seems so store up.

Also quick question, if I start from PoE exotic bounties do those complete aswell, I still need 2 weapons.

I was wondering that as well. My guess is that they won't as they're not one of the exotic bounties, per se? But it would be really nice as I have no desire to grind another 1000 points for a Dregs Promise that I likely will never equip!
