You'll get them from the Weekly Strike Playlist as well I believe.
 
As level is important any longer I don't know anyone that has saved XP simply to boost their level. As light level is no more imporant I think most people are saving it so they can push themselves over faction/vangaurd/crucible level and earn a (hopefully) nice new piece of armour or weapon. Saving XP is also useful to save for when you have a weapon and a couple pieces of new armour as you can drop them and goes a long way maxxing the armour/weapon straight away.
 
I've squirreled away 16 completed quests, 3 daily quests, 13 weapon engrams & 16 armour engrams to hand in tomorrow (so far).

Bungie said during one of the reveal streams that people will be able to do the nightfall initially once they are 40 but that it will be extremely hard

You could be right, had'nt taken that into account at all :( May just use them to level up my Cryptarch rank in that case, and make sure that it will only take one or two new engrams to level me up once TTK hits.

My saved bounties are more so I can max out my new sub-classes straight away (assuming they are not maxed out when unlocked). Theyt'll obviously push me to levelo 40 quite quickly, but that's a secondary thought for me, not my main aim.

Yeah, you'll definitely just get year 1 gear. I've just got mine saved as my Cryptarch is one engram away from the next level on all 3 characters so I might as well save them until tomorrow.

I guess all enemies being invulnerable and killing you in one shot falls under that description :)

You're going to have to gear up for sure. Even in the new patrol missions that seem to have glitched open for some people, the enemies are immune to level 34/170 light.

I think it'll depend on whether you have to complete the story missions to unlock the new strike, like we had to for Omnigul. If that's the case then I think it'll be doable as we'll no doubt get armour and weapons while doing the missions. If it opens up as soon as you hit level 40, I think the people who use bounties to get to level 40 straight away are probably going to struggle a bit/lot.
 
I am aware that engrams are rolled creation. Does anyone know about crucible packages? I am guessing it works the same :( I wasn't paying attention to my character last night and went over so earned a crucible package. I am keeping it until tomorrow just incase it drops something new but don't hold any hope.

Yup, they're the same sadly.
 
Some of these subclass quests seem a bit daft. Kill 3 majors and 15 kills in total. Seems bizarre that it's 15 kills from anything, it should have been 15 golden gun kills. Easy peasy.
